Anxious Objects Art Opening @ Frye
Art Opening at Frye: Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands
Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands showcases the methods, media, and themes of the artist’s earliest mature work from the late 1980s to the present. Cole is best known for assembled, mixed-media sculpture and paintings and drawings made of iron scorchmarks. He transforms throwaway and time-textured objects—such as irons, ironing boards, blow dryers, high-heeled shoes, lawn jockeys, bicycle parts, and other discarded domestic appliances and hardware—into powerful and iconic artworks, granting them new vitality and metaphorical meaning.

Seattle Burners,

It's time again for performance and poetry at The Phinney Center. The
June UNTITLED [INTERSECTION] 2007 is happening on Friday 22 June at

art for this year's Burn. I'm always looking for new performance art
to present. We provide a great opportunity to mingle with some of the
best Seattle poets while addressing a captive audience. If you are or
know a performer who has something right for the series or if you have
an idea for it, contact me: mimiallin@gmail.com. We're taking a break
for the summer, but we'll be back at it in September.
Thank you!

Bubbalicious!
i can't tell you anything about this band. i can't tell you that this collection of musicians will fill your ears with wave after wave of ridiculously funky, all-improvised jams for hours on end. and i definitely can't tell you that you won't be able to sit still for long once the music starts.
i can't tell you any of that -- because we've never played together before.
when all that stuff happens, though, you're gonna want to be there.

Georgetown Block Party
By the skin of our teeth, we intend to show off our gorgeous new bus-sized Birthday Cake

The “Buddies” show opening
It's been a while since a worthy event so here it is!
Saturday June 23rd in Georgetown!

Cartoons and photography combine to create a compelling new exhibition at
Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery in Seattle. “Buddies,” featuring paintings and
comics by Peter Bagge and photographs by Lance Mercer, opens Saturday June 23.
These two artists working in different media share a sensibility unique to
Seattle’s cultural environment.

Peter’s paintings of Buddy Bradley and his crew of lovable losers will be
publicly displayed for the first time. Bagge was a central figure in shaping the
aesthetics and chronicling the attitude of Seattle’s “grunge” era.
Georgetown-based photographer Lance Mercer has similarly fashioned a career
documenting the countercultural milieu and personalities that provided the
inspiration for many of Bagge’s comics.

The opening party for “Buddies” on Saturday, June 23 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM
highlights a daylong celebration of the arts in Georgetown. The “Georgetown
Carnival and Artopia Arts Festival” features dozens of family friendly
exhibitions and events. The carnival includes funky games, prizes, acrobats and
more. At the ever-popular Power Tool Races you can cheer for the bad ass
chainsaw-driven entry by Fantagraphics curator Larry Reid. (Just don’t get in
the way). Loads of new titles in store and the art action from noon to midnight
is free!
See you soon!

Cissy
The “Buddies” show continues through July 31 at 1201 S. Vale Street (at Airport
Way S.). We’re open every day from 11:30 – 8:00 PM (Sundays until 5:00 PM).

Co-Motion @ Buddha Bar
Hey Party Volcano,

I’d like to invite you to an event I’m putting on Saturday, June 23rd in Belltown at the Buddha Bar (9pm-2am). I’m calling it Co-Motion, and it’s what I would call an artistic club night. We’ll have DJs (DJ J. Schell and Professor Direkt) dropping great tunes, a nice big dance floor, but also something artistic going on to add to the excitement (for the 23rd, MF Magazine will be partnering with us and putting on a fashion show, so we’ve got 3 fashion designers and 10 models lined up to add to the fun). If you feel inclined, it would be awesome if you could mention me in your recommendations for that weekend. If the night is a success, we plan to throw an event about once every two months.

You can view the flyers at
http://www.jasonschell.net/CoMotion.htm

You can check out other DJ related things (including mixes to download) at
http://www.jasonschell.net/dj.htm

If you’d like me to send you any more of my promos via mail, just let me know. I’d be happy to get some off to you.

Thanks a lot, Jason (or DJ J. Schell if you prefer)

Gallery Talk @ SOIL
With curator Ellen Ziegler and artists
Crud
{embodiment, pollution, infestation, decay, metamorphosis, and the transformations of time}
Artists:
Nola Avienne, Claire Putney, Timea Tihanyi, Ellen Ziegler, Susan Zoccola
Crud assembles work that reaches its formal and emotional power through an evocation of change, decay, infestation, pollution, metamorphosis and the transformations of time. It presents artists who go beyond the seductiveness of material or the mere manipulation of emotions to integrated and powerful work. Often that work references the body and its processes, as the body can be the source of our most intimate ambivalence.

From Yellowstone to Yukon @ Burke Museum

Michelle writes:
Burke Museum

The Burke seems to me to be one of the hidden treasures of Seattle (like the Frye). After next Saturday, it'll be host to two exhibits that are right up my alley. http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseum/

-Opening Sat, June 16th, From Yellowstone to Yukon is a glorious photography exhibition by Florian Schultz, who spent years wandering this huge wild corridor, capturing one of the largest wilderness areas left in North America. I have the book, and can't wait to see the actual prints! He's giving a talk in October; worth putting in your calendar. Though Dec 31st.

-In the Spirit of the Ancestors (through September 3rd) is an exhibition of gorgeous Contemporary Northwest Coast Native Art. It's a beautiful show, with prints, masks, robes, weaving and more. If you're wondering what my interest in NW Coast Native Art is, I've been helping out at the Shotridge Gallery for the past few months in Pioneer Square, with my friends Sue & Israel Shotridge, from Vashon. He's a top-notch Tlingit carver, and the gallery features his work (including a 10-foot totem pole!) along with a selection of work by other Native artists. http://www.shotridgegallery.com 314 Occidental Ave S.

Sunday 6/17

Write-O-Rama @ Richard Hugo House
Richard Hugo House Presents
Write-O-Rama –
June 17, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
The second time around…
Richard Hugo House is once again proud to present Write-O-Rama, on June 17 from
10 a.m.-5 p.m. This lively benefit for Hugo House is a full day of 50-minute writing workshops–more than 30 in all–along with prizes, food and drink, open mics and a party wrapping it all up. Everyone who wants to write is welcome to sample Hugo House classes, meet other writers and get ink on paper.

How does it work?
Participants are asked to raise at least $35 for Hugo House and are welcome to collect pledges from friends and family à la walk-a-thon (pledge sheets are available online). The doors open for registration at 9:30 a.m. but anyone can come for as little or as much of Write-O-Rama as they please. Participants will look at the schedule and choose which classes they want, then Hugo House staff members will start the “O-Rama” 5-10 minutes before each session–this is when participants dash madly to the class of their choice.
At the end of each 50-minute class, we “O-Rama” all over again and choose a new class.
Here's a sneak peak at a few of the workshops offered at Write-O-Rama:
Writing the Workplace with Rebecca Agiewich
We'll read great workplace scenes by other writers, then make our own characters commute to the office for some nasty–or funny, or sad–surprises.
Triolets are Red, Limericks are Blue with Steve Arnston

We'll take up two ingenious forms that teach something unique about meter and repetition. Triolets are for birthdays and valentines, and limericks are–well, usually they involve a man from Nantucket.
Shall I Compare Thee to an 800,000-Residents-Without-Power Windstorm? with Martha Silano
In this workshop we'll explore the concept of parody, looking at examples of original work and its imitation(s). Think "Ode on a Grecian Urn" and "Ode on a Bottle of Grecian Formula." After comparing, we'll compose our own.

Prizes will be awarded throughout the day, including free Hugo Writing Classes. The individual who raises the most pledges gets a free six-week class and the team that raises the most pledges wins free one-day classes for all.
At noon and at 5 p.m. we’ll turn the stage over to an open mic for students to read their new gems aloud. Participants can sooth sore fingers around cool drinks and fuel creativity with snacks throughout the day. At the end of it all the tired writers will raise a glass to their new writing with their new friends and wonder how long it will be before Write-O-Rama comes around the third time.
EVENT LISTING
Jun. 17 – Richard Hugo House’s 2nd Write-O-Rama! An eight-hour extravaganza of mini-writing workshops and big prizes topped off with an open mic and party. Raise (or bring) at least $35 for Hugo House and come ready to write. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 1634 11th Ave. Pledge sheets, class schedule and other info at www.hugohouse.org

Don Volcano's Computer Corner

Three months ago new neighbors moved in next door. A bunch of young folks in their early twenties that party all the time. This might sounds weird: Me - the CEO of Party Volcano - complaining about partying? Yes, if you party next door on a Thursday at 1 AM in the morning.

My lovely girlfriend has sent friendly letters reminding them that it is not cool to party all every weekend until after 2 AM and especially not during the week. I told her that that was a waste of time. It's like the U.N. sending letters to Saddam Hussein: "We are sharply disagreeing with your recent invasion of Kuwait". If she is the U.N. I am the United States. I am sending armed forces.

In the good old days I would have taken pleasure in handling this case the German way. This is what you would do in Germany: you go to the local meet packing district in the morning and buy a goat head. As you might know burnt goat head is a West Indian delight.
Extreme Eating: Goat Heat
Get the one with the blue tongue hanging out the mouth, preferable sticking out to one side between the yellow teeth. It's only a dollar more with the tongue and will certainly increase the effect. Either way, you take your smelly goat head and nail it to your neighbor's door. In Germany if you find a smelly goat head nailed to your door it means: stop partying. If there is a blue tongue hanging out the goat's mouth it means: stop partying, I hate you.

But maybe all this might not be necessary. Maybe they will kill each other, or just drive each other crazy. I found this interesting site about horror stories involving housemates and roommates. There might be hope.
Who stole my milk?
http://whostolemymilk.com/
Well I'll let you know how our neighbors liked the goat head.

Events from 6/8 to 6/14/2007

This is a fantastic week. Lots of events and this time I could actually find some good ones.
My favorite is probably STRAIGHT TO VIDEO: the first 10 years of Vital 5. But then there is also Seattle's Third Biannual Urban Golf Tournament/Drinkathon. The oddest event is maybe Free Poetry Shirts @ Greenlake on Sunday. Also, the Three Imaginary Girls are turning 5 and the Guerrilla Masquerade Party will host its 30th event. A great week always comes with a downgrade (you can't love if you can't hate). This week's stinker is Magical Auction, which has to be avoided unless you crave "unique magical, talismanic works of art" and assuming your stomach can handle the "Renaissance fair atmosphere with music, jugglers, and performers".

Last but not least I'll also throw in a Computer Corner about Suicide Food.

Oliver Vernon and Damon Soule @ BLVD Gallery

BLVD gallery is proud to present the work of two of the most
original artists currently involved in the contemporary Urban art
movement. Oliver Vernon and Damon Soule, both currently based in New
York City, make paintings that look past this material plane into what
seem like alternate worlds that are familiar like a dream that is never
fully remembered. Both artists have gained international acclaim,
having been featured in the book “Convergence” with urban art
luminaries Mars-1, David Choong Lee, and Nome Edonna. This will be the
first major show for both of these artists in Seattle and we cannot be
more pleased to have the opportunity to show such innovative work.

Oliver Vernon paints what seem like colliding planes of time and
space. His work on canvas and panel alternate from views of what seem
like never before seen galaxies into the nanosphere of genetics.
Oliver’s work is simultaneously “visionary” and part of the graphic
tradition of graffiti yet never tips too far to either side to become
cliché. Oliver often collages what at times seem like two separate
works that share a common color scheme creating a new singular work
that creates a tension between the cosmological and the architectural.

Damon Soules’ paintings mix a fluid, organic world populated with
what would best be described as fabricated creatures that seem lifted
straight from the animatronic sets of Disneyland. The soft geometries
of his mixed media backgrounds are offset by the Anime-like colors and
forms of the inhabitants of his often surreal paintings. Damon is a
real populist artist, having made his name first creating public murals
then moving into the world of commission work for clients such as Hotel
Des Arts in SF and author Danielle Steele. His approach to what he does
as a working artist is extremely pragmatic.
“I’m not one of those people that thinks that art is untouchable,” he
says. “Artists are artisans – it’s a skill like a tradesperson.”

PCNW THESIS EXHIBITION

June 8–July 10, 2007

PCNW THESIS EXHIBITION

ANDREA HORNS, SCOTIA MACKAY, LARRY OCKENE & ELLEN WITEBSKY

Reception: Friday, June 8, 6:00–8:00 pm

Photographic Center Northwest presents thesis work by four students from the Certificate Program. These graduating thesis students each posses a style that is uniquely their own, but they share a passion for fine art photography that has led them through years of in-depth study as part of PCNW's rigorous Certificate Program. Please join us in recognizing their accomplishment with an exhibition featuring their work in a variety of formats and addressing themes as individual as the artists themselves.

Andrea Horns
My Sensational Skin

In My Sensational Skin , Andrea Horns portrays the beauty and diversity of the most amazing of our organs: the skin. Intrigued by the tender wrapping of her own children, and inspired by Kent Stevenson's song, she explored the ever changing appearance of skin — used every day, durable enough to last, but fragile at the same time. The color photographs in this series show grace and beauty at any age.

Scotia MacKay
Boundaries

In Boundaries. Scotia MacKay illustrates with images and poetry, the cause and effect of various forms of separation; light and dark, vulnerability and protection, support and deformity, discipline and spaciousness. This exhibit is in the form of an installation and includes the artist's voice—reciting her poems creating an atmosphere that is soothing and mysterious.

Larry Ockene
Peregrine Forms

Larry Ockene presents us with a view of the extraordinary within the ordinary, In Peregrine Forms . Through extreme macro photography, plant life becomes highly abstract – evoking landscapes, anatomical structures, and alien worlds: In the interior of a red pepper is an embryo in a womb; in the draped curves of a vine flower is the caldera of a volcano. The artist's large color images invite one to look deeply at the intriguing forms in everyday life.

Ellen Witebsky
Poems from Home

Home is not just a place. It is a personal space where the objects with which we surround ourselves evoke powerful feelings. In Ellen Witebsky's Poems from Home, these household objects – sometimes worn and dirty, sometimes bright and glittery – become the subjects of elegant still lifes. In these color photographs, she captures the beauty and warmth of everyday things.

STRAIGHT TO VIDEO: the first 10 years of Vital 5 @ 911 Media Arts Center

Dear Friends,

We are having an opening this Friday at 911 Media Arts Center.
There will be beer.
Please join us to look back over a decade of video and photography.
The opening party will start at 6:00 and run until 10:00 pm.

Thank you,
Greg

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Vital 5 Productions
in association with 911 Media Arts Center
presents

STRAIGHT TO VIDEO:
the first 10 years of Vital 5

June 8 - July 22, 2007

In the spring of 1996, Vital 5 Productions staged its first performance on the steps of Seattle's Federal Building. It was a wonderful, sunny afternoon and a troupe of about 50 protested work. AFWFA (Artists For a Work Free America) viewed work as the great evil in our society and wanted robots to do it. It was the bottle of champagne broken over the bow of a wooden raft. What we lacked in funding and sophistication was compensated by a sincere passion for the arts and a desire to change public perception of what contemporary art was, what it could be, and whom it should serve.

The wooden raft found great adventure. While often seen floating lazily down the river with crew and passengers boisterous is song and spirit, it also hit large boulders, bounced through rapids and wandered into unfamiliar waters. Vital 5 found refuge on Second Avenue for a spell and narrowly escaped the wrecking ball that turned their camp into a Starbucks coffee shop. Further down the river it anchored at a port on Westlake Avenue, where it found fair weather and fine friends. But Vital 5 was not a building, it was not built to be anchored or tied to a dock. Again it wandered into the current.

Ten years past. In that time it received many awards. Vital 5 was tapped for creating the worst performance of the year (1998) and worst theatric release (2003). It was also hailed as one of the most important art group of the 1990's and received a Stranger's genius award, for well, taking chances and not falling apart. It wasn't the largest ship in the sea, could not boast of international travels or wealthy patrons, but it was a hearty organization, built to hit rocks, flip over, fail as well as succeed, and change course as it pleased.

Ten years past and the documentation of our adventures grew. Boxes of photographs cluttered the cabin. Hours upon hours of video. A glut of information, disorganized and mislabeled. A decades worth of stories. It was time to catalog before the next stretch of rapids fell upon us.

Please join us as we look back over ten years of video and photography.

The exhibit runs June 8 through July 22 at 911 Media Arts Center, with an opening party June 8th from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. and admission is always free (become a member of 911).
Thank you for your time and we hope you may join us. It is not an epilogue. It is just the first chapter.

BROKEN DISCO @ Chop Suey

==============================
BROKEN DISCO : JUNE
==============================

FRIDAY JUNE 8TH

Decibel, Fourthcity, Sensory Effect and Shameless present:
The Nortec Collective (Mexico), Smash TV (Germany) and Panoptica (Mexico).

==============================
main stage – 18+
==============================

*NORTEC COLLECTIVE - Live
[Because Music, Nacional Records / Mexico]
The Nortec Collective is comprised of five artists: Fussible (Pepe Mogt),
Bostich (Ram Amezcua), Panoptica (Roberto Mendoza), Clorofila (Jorge Verdï)
and Hiperboreal (Pedro Gabriel Beas). These producers create and perform a
style of music called Nortec - a fusion of Norte ("from the North") and
Techno, documenting the collision between the style and culture of
electronica and traditional Mexican music.

*SMASH TV - Live
[Bpitch Control, Playhouse Records / Germany]
"Now more than ever" seems to be the motto of Holger Zilske, aka Smash TV.
Originally Smash TV represented the collaborative efforts of Holger Zilske
and Michael Schmidt, who began their career recording under the alias
Mindlab, releasing one popular tech-house single on the Salo imprint (where
fellow tech-house artists SCSI-9 also got their start).

*PANOPTICA - Live
[Certificate 18, mil Records / Mexico]
Roberto Mendoza has been one of the main figures in the Mexican electronic
scene since the late 80s, founding bands like electro post-industrial outfit
Artefakto and in the 90s the critically acclaimed Nortec Collective. During
this same period he signed a deal with London label Certificate 18 as
Panoptica, releasing a series of albums from which DJ legend John Peel (RIP)
took notice. In 2001 he invited Panoptica to participate in a Peel session
on his popular BBC radio show.

*DJ COLIN
[Mercir / Seattle]
A ten year veteran dj, producer, and electronic music promoter, Colin
Johnson's diverse musical tastes and recorded output reflect his bohemian
upbringing. Living much of his life on the road, he was exposed at an early
age to the varying music, art, and cultures that America had to offer. From
his intuitive grade-school flirtations with sound collage and his naive
experimentations with 'scratching,' to his instrumental production under the
alias Fringe and being a founding member of Seattle's own Indie-Electronic
band Mercir, Colin's progressive approach to music has been accompanied with
accolades.

Seattle's Third Biannual Urban Golf Tournament/Drinkathon

Seattle's Third Biannual Urban Golf Tournament/Bar Crawl is going down Saturday June 9th. All you need is a golf club, some fancy duds and a $3 ball fee to join. Bring your ball from a previous game and play for free!

This year, Urban Golf is going industrial in the Georgetown district. There's a few new bars mixed in with some old Georgetown favorites. There's less pedestrians and traffic, but more warehouses, railroad tracks and sketchy alleys.

Tee off is at 2pm.

Meet at 13th Ave. South and South Albro Place (Google Map - On the north end of Boeing Field)

Teams will be about 8-10 people. We'll hook you up and set your tee time on a first come first serve basis. Get together a full team, half team or come by yourself.

Just remember to bring a golf club (found cheap at Goodwill + we'll have a few loaners), your fanciest pants, the $3 fee plus some "cash" for drinks.

We'll provide course maps, rules and balls.

If you're planning on attending, please send a note to greensmaster@seattleurbangolf.com. It's not necessary, but it helps give us a more accurate ball count.

This is a 9 hole 9 bar course, so the age restriction is strictly 21 and over.

Guerrilla Masquerade Party #30 - Good Sports

Hey Guerrillas!

Sorry for cutting it a little close this time - things have been very
busy with another little project we're working on
(http://www.capitolhillhigh.com/). But rest assured, this Saturday's
'GOOD SPORTS!' party will be a blast!

And we've picked a whole team of unsuspecting playing fields to engage
in our respective activities on:

The first quarter of the game starts at 9pm at what is possibly the
least sporty bar in Seattle - Martin's Off Madison. It's a piano bar
located just around the corner from Chop Suey. It's at 1413 14th Ave,
between Madison and Union on 14th.

At 10pm, (after we wear out our welcome begging pianist to play "Take
Me Out to the Ballgame") the second quarter begins and we move just
around the corner to the Madison Pub - at 1315 East Madison St.

Then at 11pm, the second half starts as we pop into Barca at 1510 11th
Ave - just one block down and one block over, between Pike & Pine on 11th.

Finally, for the fourth quarter and the post-game show, at Midnight
we'll make our way down to Havana Social Club at 1010 East Pike
Street. This one's a little tricky, as there's no signage and the
entrance is in a parking lot. Walk into the parking lot directly
across Pike Street from Cafe Vita (between 10th and 11th), then look
for the black awning - that's the way in. Also, there's a $5 cover -
but well worth it for the chance to dance to great tunes while wearing
a football uniform, right?

See y'all Saturday night!

Don Volcano's Computer Corner

I found this link through another site I will talk about in a few weeks: Suicide Food.

What is Suicide Food? Suicide Food is any depiction of animals that act as though they wish to be consumed. Suicide Food actively participates in or celebrates its own demise. Suicide Food identifies with the oppressor. Suicide Food is a bellwether of our decadent society. Suicide Food says, “Hey! Come on! Eating meat is without any ethical ramifications! See, Mr. Greenjeans? The animals aren’t complaining! So what's your problem?” Suicide Food is not funny.

I have to disagree. I think it is very funny. Please have a look:

Suicide Food: Animals That Desire To Be Eaten
http://suicidefood.blogspot.com/2007/06/moo-oink.html

I love Moo and Oink! This one received only 3 nooses. The nooses ratings correspond directly to funniness. I think these 5 noose posts are superb:

Sausages from Auvergne

Hieronymus Bosch as butcher-shop kitsch
http://suicidefood.blogspot.com/2007/04/ac-butcher-leichhardt-sydney-australia.html

First I thought this is another fake site like Bonsai Kitten or Doggy Island.
But "Ben" the guy who is doing the site seems to be just a damn serious vegan. A damn serious vegan with too much time on his hand I shall say, because he maintains 5 blogs. Most of them are about nothing:

Ben, the compulsive vegan blogger

I think I have found a rare case of an unintentionally funny guy. Those are really hard to find in these days. Please let me know if you know of unintentionally funny sites or people.
I would love to share your picks with the other readers.

Bon appétit!

MENOMENA @ NEUMOS
For those not yet in the know: Danny Seim, Justin Harris, and Brent Knopf perform, sing, arrange, create, and destroy Menomena songs. They've released two previous albums on the excellent Portland indie label Film Guerrero: i am the fun blame monster (which garnered a rare 8.7 rating from Pitchfork and inspired them to say: "Menomena are a hugely creative band, and they've managed to make an album that's extremely accessible yet entirely unconventional"), and under an hour, which consists of three lengthy instrumental compositions and is the soundtrack to a modern dance performance choreographed by a friend. They're not like other bands. friend and foe, (which features riveting cover art by cult artist and Blankets author Craig Thompson) returns to the more pop-influenced stylings of fun blame monster, shining Northwest indie songcraft through a Chicago post-rock lens, illuminating the quiet recesses with an unpredictable, experimental light.

Ouch My Eye presents: 24 hour Photothon - Austin
Ouch My Eye presents: 24 hour Photothon - Austin

24 Hours, 24 Images, 6 Photographers, Austin Texas, Visine, and a wicked bar tab. In Conjunction with STIFF (Seattle True Independent Film Festival).

Ouch My Eye’s 24-Hour Photothon in Austin Texas, Ouch My Eye’s photographers have now brushed into Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, San Francisco, Hawaii, and Vancouver BC, and Texas was vanquished.
See what happens when 6 photographers descend on Austin’s people, historic monuments, night life, and yes, bats. 24 Hours awake, shooting the weirdest that Austin has to offer, including a bizarre Crawfish festival, transients, the UT drunken debauchery of 6th street, and what happens to 6 people after they have spent 24 hours together, hung-over. A Portland print-house, tried to stop this show, with a last minute pull out of printing the STIFF brochure. But STIFF would not be deterred and put up some extra dough to get it rush printed from another press. Here we are, so come out, support the Indy driven STIFF, and thumb in your eye aesthetic of Ouch My Eye.

The Ouch My Eye gallery located at 1022 1st Ave South. The show will feature 24 Juried images, 1 image per hour in sequential order, along with a 24 minute short film, and an assortment of other images taken from the 24 straight hours spent in Austin Texas. This show will open at 7pm, and will stay open till 1am.
Ouch My Eye is a truly independent gallery, functioning outside the normal business model of hanging sell-able art. Ouch My Eye promotes itself, represents no one and everyone, all at the same time.
This show features Seattle based photographers, Bob Brunner, Christopher Nelson, Jackie Kingsbury, John Gascon, Lawrence Ruelos, and Michael Chandler.

General Idea Editions 1967-1995 @ Henry Art Gallery

Frankly, this looks terrible.
This exhibition, a complete retrospective of General Idea's edition-based works. It follows nearly a decade after two members of this pioneering collaborative team—Jorge Zontal and Felix Partz—died of AIDS-related causes in 1994. The exhibition presents over 200 items—prints, postcards, posters, photo-based projects, flags, and crests—beginning with works produced by the artists before the formation of the group, through their historically unprecedented collaboration, to the final object XXX Voto (for the Spirit of Miss General Idea), 1995, published by AA Bronson, the last surviving member of the group.

Breaks & Freaks celebrates 2 year
How do you celebrate two years of gifted freaks, broken beats and delectable treats? You take the label head of SoundTrax Records, a mind blowing trio playing an eclectic mix of jungle jazz dub, some local dubstep and triphop, and of course, a heavy dose of hometown weirdoes, mix them all together and let them have the run of Neumos for a night.

That’s exactly what Infinite Connections plans to do to celebrate the Breaks & Freaks 2 year anniversary on June 2nd at Neumos. There will be music by Big Bud from Good Looking and Soundtrax Records (UK), dubstep goodness by Richie Spoonz, plus the launch of AriSawkaDoria’s new album. AriSawkaDoria features Ari from Swampdweller, Kevin from KJ Sawka and Joe from Sherik’s ST7. And watch out for PURE Cirkus, they’ll be everywhere so it will be hard to miss them.

"Ben's Plan" @ Seattle True Independent Film Festival
I have not seen this film yet, but my friend Jenna Ricker, the genius behind
it, is one of the wittiest women I know. I've watched her labor over this
for the past few years, and I'm sure it's a fine way to kick off a Sunday
afternoon.

Casey

"An honest and sometimes hilarious take on an adolescent boy's coming to
terms with his estranged family. And the best part - you actually care about
each and every character. Bravo!"
- Farnoosh Torabi, AM New York

"Originality is a rarity these days and "Ben's Plan" isn't based on a book.
It's a movie that embraces faults and the journey families are forced to go
on if they want to walk side by side in this world. You can't choose your
family, but at some point that's exactly what you end up doing."
- Kat Cameron, CNBC

Thanks! Hope to see you there!!

PUNCH: Schema Opening Reception
Patricia Hagen’s new body of work furthers her exploration of modular growth patterns and inter-related systems that are evident in nature on several different scales. She continues to search for the visual language to describe the world’s order and chaos, life and death, by looking at cancer cells, bacteria, viruses, bodily organs, plant forms, and geologic formations. Hagen strives for glimpses of the “big picture” by studying the interaction of the base elements of that picture.

CRUD @ SOIL
CRUD
Nola Avienne, Claire Putney, Timea Tihanyi, Ellen Ziegler and Susan Zoccola

Opening reception First Thursday (June 7), 6-9:00 pm
Hours noon-5pm Thursday-Sunday
SOIL Gallery, 112 Third Ave. South, Seattle, WA 98104

As in Joseph Beuys’ use of fat and felt, the hair sculpture of Petah Coyne and Wenda Gu, Kiki Smith’s body meditations, the dropping sunflower seeds of Anselm Kiefer’s paintings, and Tim Hawkinson’s giant digestive system, these works exemplify (sometimes literally) a visceral engagement with ideas, emotion and materials characterized by attraction and revulsion, beauty and creepiness.
