New underground venue in Belltown.

Hey PV,

It's been a while since I rapped at ya....

The Underground is a cool new temporary venue (was already home to the Punk Rock Flea Market) which will be hosting lots of interesting stuff for the next year or so.

Saturday is an unofficial grand opening party with some very lively bands. I'll be doing some live interactive video projecting, too. Rock! Thanks!

Final Safari at Baltic Room

Greetings SunTzu Sound Family!

SunTzu Sound announces that this month's edition of SAFARI at The Baltic Room on Saturday October 20th will be our last. We've decided to put the night to rest to focus on our record label, producing our own tunes and pursuing more out of town bookings (our recent trip to SF has us inspired!) You can still catch us around town at various venues including our weekly event over at Havana on Thursdays BACK DOOR (which is jumping off, FYI). We thank you for helping spread the word of a night dedicated to the soulful side of future dance music. While SAFARI was preaching the gospel, we've brought in such international talent as: Osunlade, Rich Medina, Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers, Daz-I-kue, Recloose, John Beltran, 1Luv, Jeremy Ellis aka Ayro, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Dego of 4Hero. Please help us throw one final bash before we move on.

Also, October 27 marks the return of Jazzanova. The tour is a celebration of the 10 year anniversary for Sonar Kollektiv and the party is a full on Halloween Bash! Get your tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/21504/ Full details below!

Lecture and Booksigning: Urs Peter Flückiger

Donald Judd (1928-1994) was one of the most important exponents of American minimal art who also exerted a lasting influence in the field of architecture. Among the lesser-known aspects of Judd’s work is a large collection of architectural designs, which explore the relationship of architecture and art. Of special importance for Judd’s work in this field is a former military fort in Marfa, Texas, which he purchased and systematically transformed into one of the largest ensembles of contemporary art. Unlike the work of such architects such as Louis Kahn, Carlo Scarpa or Hans Doellgast, who clearly distinguished differences between the old and the new in their designs for existing buildings, Judd was unconcerned with expressing these differences in what he added to the architecture. He was concerned with the whole, the building and the urban or landscape context. The book will be an invaluable source of inspiration for contemporary architects.

A reception and book-signing will follow the lecture.

SLIDELUCK POTSHOW PORTLAND

Thursday October 25th | 7:00 Potluck | 9:00 Slideshow | Ace Hotel
Please Bring Food - Drinks will be available for purchase | Info @ pdx@slideluckpotshow.com
Extended Submission Deadline: Friday, October, 19th, 2007

Greetings Portland:

Consider this your invitation to Slideluck Potshow Portland. What,
may you ask, am I talking about? I'm talking about a slideshow and
I'm talking about a potluck. Slideluck Potshow is a gathering of
members of the arts, photography, and media communities to share and
celebrate art in one night. Based in New York and held in many cities
internationally, SLPS is the first ever digital art salon and potluck
all in one! This event, which happens thrice yearly in New York City
and brings together about a thousand spirited individuals, is about to
have a go in Portland. The PDX event will be held at the
Ace Hotel on Thursday October 25th, 2007.

Submit your art work for SLPS PDX! We are currently seeking creative,
thought-provoking submissions. Participants are encouraged to take
creative risks, in terms of content and presentation, and to not just
show their portfolios. The submissions are collected and curated in
advance of the slideshow. Cutting-edge multimedia presentations are
welcomed and all shows are accompanied by music, commentary, or other
surprises. SLPS PDX submission deadline is October 15th. Please visit the
submissions page of the SLPS website for guidelines and contact
pdx@slideluckpotshow.com for FTP information. Please note that this
show is unthemed.

It's a potluck, what to bring? Basically, should you choose to join
us on October 25th, we just ask that you bring something to something
nice to eat. We're not talking about peanuts and cracker jacks here.
We would like to see a tray of your favorite lasagna, spicy tuna
rolls, a green papaya salad, pigs-in-a-blanket, or a chocolate-almond
torte. Don't know how to cook? Pick something up from your favorite
restaurant or be prepared to make a donation. Need ideas? Check out
the recipes on our website (http://www.slideluckpotshow.com.) In
addition, you will find photos from the events, archived slideshows,
feedback, press, etc.

Around 9pm we will dim the lights, hush the crowd, and kickoff a
spectacular slideshow. We will be presenting a wide variety of work,
from photojournalism to fashion photography, portraiture, installation
and painting— each presentation lasting no longer than five minutes.
We will be showing about 30 artists work, from Portland and
elsewhere Contributors in past SLPS from around the world include:
The Guggenheim Foundation, Alec Soth, Elliott Erwitt, Chris Buck,
Elinor Carucci, Martin Schoeller, Alex Majoli, Catherine Ledner, and
Bruce Gilden.

Halloween
at the Hideout

It's either Wednesday, October 24th or Thursday, October 25th.
I think it's the latter.

Yes I know it is early. Halloween is a long, long ways away. Still,
please mark your calendar for Halloween festivities at the Hideout.

We will be hosting our third annual pumpkin carving party on
Wednesday, October 25th. Alcohol and knives. Great idea.

And we will be hosting our third annual costume party Saturday,
October 27th. And yes, costumes are required.

Both evenings are free and fantastically fun. So get your costumes
together, mark your calendar and make this Halloween a sure thing.
