Strange Brew @ BLVD gallery

Hi friends
Just wanted to thank everybody who had a chance to make it to our
"Claimin' Space" exhibit at the Bumbershoot Arts Festival here in
Seattle over Labor Day Weekend. It was alot of fun and a great
opportunity to share all of the amazing artists who inspire us with a
great new group of people. I think something like 30k people walked
through the show, Simply amazing. If you were unable to make it we have
setup a Flickr page with a ton of great shots of all of the action
during the show -
http://www.flickr.com/photos/34625500@N00/sets/72157601511077162/
There was some great work on display that is also available for
purchase.
View it here - http://blvdart.com/showpages/claimin/claimin_gallery.html

"Strange Brew" , curated by Seattle artist Robert Hardgrave, is a
unique opportunity to see an exciting new wave of young creatives
coming out of the Great White North who are showing there is more to
Canada than Labatts and Maple Leafs. Each artist's work utilizes their
own personal conventions and symbols, whether it be drawing or
painting, presenting intimate, thoughtful surfaces for the viewer to
absorb. The work on display is an amalgamation of the influences that
are found within Canada, from the amazing asian inspired drawings of
Peter Taylor to the folk qualities of Matthew Feylds' paintings,
Curator Robert Hardgrave has chosen work that best illustrates the high
degree of quality from these artists as well as work that is personally
inspiring for him.

sub-Rosa (premiere) @ Langston Hughes Theatre

Nassim writes:

Dear Friends,

My friend, the lovely, talented, and visionary dancer/choreographer, Cheronne Wong, will be performing in her first new show in a couple years. I saw the work-in-progress of Sub Rosa and it was intriguing, beautiful, and truly unique. Miguel and I will be going to the opening on 9/14, which happens to be Cheronne's birthday too (The day is happily in a small time window between book trips for me).

Do you want to join us? Or maybe you'll go another day? Please spread the word (esp Don PV) and try to support dance in Seattle. Langston Hughes Theatre is also very nice.

Hugs, Nassim

Here are the details:

sub-Rosa premieres for 2 weekends at the Langston Hughes Performing
Arts Center in Seattle on Sept 14-15 and 21-22, 2007. Using inventive
movement, powerful theatricality and striking visual landscapes, this
multimedia full-evening piece explores an international undercover
world, the unveiling of masked identities and covert communication
using numeric code. sub-Rosa is inspired by the phenomenon of
shortwave numbers stations rumored to be a document of covert
communications of the world's secret agencies. This project is co-
sponsored by the Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation, 4Culture and
the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, City of Seattle. After the
Seattle premiere, the project will tour to Tacoma School of the Arts
and Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.

Cheronne Wong, originally from Malaysia, has been choreographing in
Seattle for the past 8 years. Locally her work has been produced at
many venues including On the Boards, King County Performance Network,
Seattle Asian Art Museum and Velocity. Her company has toured/taught
nationally and internationally at Jacobs’ Pillow Dance Festival
(MA), Mulberry Street Theater and Judson Church (NYC), Wexner Center
(OH), Performance Works (Portland) and National Arts Academy
(Malaysia). She has received commissions/residences from Mulberry
Street Theater, NWAAT, Centrum Arts, Aono Jikken Ensemble; and grants
from 4Culture, Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, Bossak/Heilbron
and Allied Arts. She is a founding partner of Open Flight Studio, a
collectively managed dance studio in the University District.

PDL at the Bridge Motel

Dear Friends,

I would like to invite you all to a rare and exciting event happening at the Bridge Motel on Saturday, September 15th. Jed Dunkerley, Jason Puccinelli and myself will be holding down room #10 on the second floor, with a performance piece entitled "Deep Space." It is a free event with incredible people involved. It's one night only so mark your calendars and prepare for take off.
You can visit www.motelmotelmotel.com for more information.

Best,
Greg

The Bridge Motel (3650 Bridge Way N, off Aurora, in Fremont) will host a one-night only event to kick off the MOTEL series on 15 September 2007, 5 PM - midnight. Built in 1952 by a retired policeman, the motel has anchored the north end of the infamous Aurora Bridge for decades in welcoming glory. Originally a place frequented by tourists and traveling salesmen, the Bridge Motel has over time become more a place for those living from paycheck to paycheck, and whose lives involve drug use, prostitution, and the like. In the popular imagination, the place embodies and realizes that underbelly, shady side of life's toiling. There has been murders here, and numerous drug busts, its decaying artifice contains the stories of a full lifetime of drama, and the day by day passing through of souls ... For one night, its last night of existence, the Bridge Motel will be dressed up and called to shine and dance ... Numerous installation/performance artists have been given full rein the week prior, to transform each dilapidated pocket into whatever they could imagine. The opening evening will reveal the Bridge's final blossom before its inevitable razing. And to top it off, every inch of the motel will be crawling with performance artists, injecting the animation and energy of truly ephemeral art. The stellar roster of artists involved is sure to create a cacophony of sights and sounds to inspire the mind and heart, and give the aging motel a proper dress-up before it's demise ... This night is not to be missed.

Co-Motion @ Buddha Belltown

Jason writes:

Hi, I’m hoping I can get you to put my event in your list of recommendations for Saturday, September 15th. This is our second installment of a night we call “Co-Motion”. The night features DJs J. Schell and Professor Direkt spinning funk, hip hop, and new wave, a fashion show courtesy of MF Magazine, loads of models showcasing the work, plus giveaways, and drink specials. Last time we had a lot of people come; in fact we promise to get the line out the door moving faster this time! It was a great event and if our success continues we plan to make it a Seattle tradition. All of the feedback we got from guests was positive too. Our venue is Buddha Belltown ( 2222 2nd Ave ) and there’s no cover; it starts at 9pm and ends at 2am. Since there was a line last time and we eventually reached capacity, we recommend coming early!

All that put simply:

Co-Motion Music | Community | Fashion | Gathering Buddha Belltown: 2222 2nd Ave Saturday, September 15th 9pm-2am MF Magazine, DJ J. Schell, Professor Direkt

Reading of a new screenplay by Bret Fetzer

WHAT: 'A is for Apple', a new screenplay by Bret Fetzer, about a high
school history teacher who has an affair with a student...but he's the one
telling you the story. What can you believe? Is Paul Bryant an ordinary
guy caught up in an extraordinary passion...or a sleazy, predatory,
self-pitying creep?

WHEN: Monday, Sept 17, at 7 pm

WHERE: Seattle Repertory Theatre's PONCHO Forum, 155 Mercert St, Seattle
Center

HOW MUCH: A mere $2

HOW LONG: No more than 90 minutes. Probably shorter. I'm still
finishing it. The reading will be followed by a short feedback session.
(There will be a brief pause twixt reading and feedback to allow those who
wish to leave to do so.)

In plugging the reading of my screenplay, I forgot to include my biggest
selling point, which is the fantastic cast of readers:

Daniel Christensen
Kate Czajkowski
Peggy Gannon
David Goldstein
Bronte Neel
Peter Dylan O'Connor

If that cast doesn't tempt you to come to a narrative-twisting,
gender-bending tale of pedophilia and lower education, I don't know what
will.

Yours,
Bret Fetzer
