Opening @ Roq La Rue

Roq La Rue Gallery
presents

Amy Sol
Stella Im Hultberg
Oksana Badrak

opening Friday September 7th 6-9pm
(Amy Sol and Stella Im Hultberg will be in attendance)

We have a fantastic show for you this month with a show by three
artists who work with feminine/natural imagery.
Amy Sol is white hot right now, with her paintings of dreamy,
fantastical worlds populated by girls and their animal companions.
Her soft graphic imagery on wood is complimented by a unique color
palette, customized by Amy (she mixes all her paints from scratch) to
further increase a sense of enigmatic mystery to the "stories" in
each painting.

Stella Im Hultberg paints romantic yet edgy women who vacillate
between innocence and sultriness, set off by her lanky, sharp line-
work contrasted by soft watercolors. This show will feature a
departure for Stella, with the introduction of several paintings on
canvas, as well as on paper.

Oksana Badrak creates lush pop imagery using a blend of digital
technology topped by meticulously hand painted elements. Creating
digital environments, Oksana then takes the organic creatures in her
work and paints them in oil in high detail. This adds to the
dichotomy found in her work with the uneasy coexistence of man made
technology and the natural world. (She also just did the cover of
KEXP's new cd)

In addition, because it's the end of summer, ALREADY, we will have a
mini exhibit of exquisite and humorous drawings by our gal Femke
Heimstra from a series called "Heatwave" depicting the trials and
tribulations of summertime. We will be offering original graphite
drawings as well as a print series made from the drawings and then
digitally colored. These are offered individually or as a special
print set!

Contact us to be put on a preview list for this show!

Artist reception @ CoCA

CoCA Belltown Gallery presents Photo Collages by John Schuh for the months of September and October, with an Artist's Reception on the terrace above the gallery from 7 - 9 pm.

John Schuh is a photographer who creates images in two steps, first by photographic his subject or thematic content from hundreds of different angles, and then cutting and assembling small prints of these images into a larger image at a much larger scale. The relationship between the larger and smaller images can be compared to a fractal, as the images are often self-similar at multiple scales.

CoCA's Belltown Gallery is an urban "show case" that creates a lively, dynamic installation space for artists of all media and disciplines. Located on the first floor of the Avenue One Condominiums at 2721 First Avenue, the gallery is viewable through the three windows on the Clay Street side.

The Great Art Party!

A Benefit for Floating Bridge Press

Dear poetry lovers near and far,

I hope that summer continues on for for you for at least a few more weeks.
Fight against the dying of the light, right?

In that spirit, I invite you to the Great Art Party this Friday evening at
6:30 at the armory in Seattle. This is the first fund raiser that Floating
Bridge Press has ever thrown and the purpose of it is to have a great time
and to raise money for an endowment ~ poetry forever ~ that's our motto.

Here's the deal: 100 guests; 100 pieces of art. Nationally known and
Northwest artists have donated over 100 of their works including sculpture,
glass art, paintings ~ and even a car ~ for this event. Everyone leaves with
a piece of art. If you can't come, but want me to get the art for you,
that's also easy enough. Download the art catalogue from the site listed
below and choose your favorite pieces. At 6:30 we will start drawing
numbers, if your number is #1, you get your fist choice. And if you are
drawn at #100, you will still have a choice.

Here's the web site that explains this all better than I have:

http://www.fbpevents.com/

Please check it out!

I have readings in Burlington, VT, Eugene, OR, and all over Washington this
fall so I hope to see you.

As always, if you want off this list just let me know.

Would love to see you Friday night,

Susan

Due to some scheduling difficulty, we will be celbrating a few weeks late, on September 8th at Crimson C, a relatively unknown bar in Pioneer Square that belongs in Belltown...It's kind of like the best of both worlds, yuppie pretentiousness in a seedy location...You can't lose!

Jessica and Kevin will be celebrating their birthdays as well so there promises to be a fun mix of friends, good music, dancing, and plenty of cocktails ...All are welcome...

Gi'day,

We're an excited bunch here at the Fusion camp as we celebrated 4 years on the air last weekend! Hope you were able to get out and celebrate with us in spirit by checking out some great modern global music at Bumbershoot.

Next up is Bebel Gilberto on Monday, September 10 at the Showbox. Bebel is touring to support her latest album Momento, and Fusion is proud to sponsor her Seattle show. Read on for a chance to win tickets. Congrats to John B, our winner from last week. His answer to our question is below.

Buy tickets

Originally from Brazil , now living in New York , Bebel Gilberto consistently delivers the laid back sounds of the beach. Touring to support her latest release, Momento, it's a shame she's not playing an outdoor venue. Listening to Bebel takes you back to when you were chilling in Ipanema with a Caiparinha in one hand and a croquette with cream cheese in the other.

Fusion Radio has a pair of tickets to give away for Bebel Gilberto. To be entered to win, send an email to fusion@fusionradio.net with the title of your favorite Bebel song. Send it by Friday 9/7 @ 12p with your name and phone number so we can contact you. Winners will be drawn at random from all entries.
