Events from 12/14 to 12/27/2007

I recently made some changes to my Facebook profile and it looks like Facebook took the liberty of sending out invitations to everybody it found in my Yahoo address book. Please feel free to ignore my invitations. They came from In-Your-Face-book. You can also accept my invitations. I am dying to minute by minute status reports on what you bought in the last 24 hours (I am referring to another In-Your-Face-book "feature" that people have complained about). There won't be a Party Volcano email next week. That's why I am giving you all I have up to Thu 12/27th. Happy Holidays!

Shag @ Roq La Rue Gallery

Roq La Rue Gallery

presents

Shag- "Motorino"

new paintings and prints
opens Friday December 14th 6-9pm

Roq La Rue is pleased to present a new series of works by Josh Agle aka Shag. Known for his vibrant, retro graphic style, Shag has made a huge name for himself with his blend of pop iconography and mid century modern, cocktail culture sensibilities. Since 1997, Shag has exhibited all over the world and sold out every show he has ever exhibited. His show, entitled "Motorino" is themed around the glamourous image of scooter culture. We will be featuring seven new original paintings, a host of sold out edition prints, and a new series of 5 "Motorino" giclees on canvas. We are thrilled to host his return back to the gallery and will be hosting a blow out party featuring the musical styling of space-surf band the Mercury 4 and the secret agent vibe of DJ Vodka Twist.

We hope you will join us for the party of the year!

“Good v. Evil” @ BLVD Gallery
BLVD Gallery presents
“Good v. Evil”
A Group Show
December 14, 2007 – February 2, 2008
Artist Reception Friday, December 14 6pm - 10pm
BLVD Gallery 2316 2nd ave Seattle Wa 98121
http://www.blvdart.com

BLVD Gallery is proud to present “Good v. Evil”, A group show
featuring work by some of the Northwests finest illustrators. As much a
sociological experiment as an artshow, Artists were asked to make 2
pieces one representing Good the other, of course, Evil. What will be
the preference? Will we see all of the evil snatched up in minutes,
while the good languishes? Possibly the age old question of “What is
Good or Evil?” will be raised. Either way with immeasurable help from
artist Jamie Burton, BLVD will be filled with some of the most
humorous, original, and truly fine examples of the burgeoning community
of illustrators here in the NW.
Featuring work by:
Jamie Burton, Rick Garland, Todd Lovering, Memo Diaz, Jason Zayas, Rich
Miller, Rich Werner, Karin Madan, Anton Bogaty, Bryan Mandronico,
Charlie Lagrecca, Augie Pagan, Son Duong, Lawrence Ruelos, Brandon
Graham, Martin Ontiveros, Tom Dougherty, Tim Swope, Bart Kaufman, Paul
Whitehead, Joe Kresoja, Scott Wiener, James Ma, Rick Klu, Randy Briley,

Exhibition Link

In the event you were too busy soaking up the sun and all things cool in Miami last week, we are giving you all another opportunity to step into your goulashes and make it down to the Tashiro-Kaplan building this weekend. That’s right, this Sunday (Dec 16th) we’re asking you to pull yourself out of bed and smear some aloe on that art Basel sunburn to join us for an award ceremony-brunch. Come by and meet Eric Frederickson, the juror for the exhibition. Sip a mimosa or two. Snack on a delicious breakfast pastry. We don’t care whether you’re hipster, hick or hippie, all are welcome to come by and commingle with PUNCH and SOIL members. Corner the juror and demand an explanation as to why you didn't get in the show. And most importantly, join us in announcing the award winners. Both galleries will be open from 12-5pm. The goodies will be served between 12-2pm.

Juror’s choice: $500

The Black Show at The Little Red Studio.

Seattle Spin writes:

Performance: The Black Show, Dec 15th, $30, by those purveyors of eroticism at Little Red Studio . This is a little bit of an opera storyline; the gods attempting to achieve an erotic connection with the humans, as if this should be much of a problem. This Little Red Studio stuff is 70% observational and 30% participatory.

I Heart Rummage @ Crocodile Café

One of my favorite holiday traditions is coming to an end, the madness, the brunch, the creativity and the wonderful people. After five years of I Heart Rummage this is the last time it will be at the Crocodile Cafe. I can remember the first year we held it there and the madness that ensued, right then and there we new we were part of something special. As the years passed on, the crafter/fashion scene grew until what it is today with imitation shows across the nation. I Heart Rummage was one of the first to branch forward with its unique urban aesthetic.

Fear not, the show is not ending, it's only changing homes and with it will surely come some changes. Where it's going no one knows but I'll let you know as soon as the new home is found.

Come to the Crocodile Cafe for one last I Heart Rummage in the this location and share with me one of my favorite holiday traditions.

A Clockwork Reduction
Seattle School
Northwest Film Forum

Don't miss the oddest, most convoluted attempt at redefining filmmaking to ever take place in the annals of movie history and/or cine-rumor ever! I said EVER! A Clockwork Reduction promises to court a wee too close to ludicrous fiasco, while wantonly daring chaos, and then brazenly concluding with waffles. I said WAFFLES!

Sure. You can go to www.AClockworkReduction.com to get the 411 and try to wrap your silly noggin around the implications/theories of this monster, but that's just plain folly. That's climbing Everest, shorty. Just trust me blindly and GO. It's much easier. You'll get there and be like all "whaa?!?..." and get sucker punched in the throat of awe - and by throat of awe, I mean you'll be filling your lady Hanes with glee. Uncontrollable, unfathomable glee. And then Nurse Ratchet's all "time for meds" and you're like "no one's the boss of me!" and she's like "don't go there" and you throw a frikn fountain out the window. Say what? I KNOW! That's exactly how crazy off the hizzy this show's gonna be.

AND! The Sunday screening will get you inside the heads of the creators. We'll screen both nights films simultaneously and do live commentary over it DVD style. But like I said, we may just end up chattin about The Hills or iPhone backlash or something.

Earl the Robotic Art Dealer @ The Hideout

Greg writes:

Dear Friends,

I'll be the first to admit it, 2007 was a strange year. It was equal parts good and bad, equal parts fun and stress, equal parts satisfaction and regret. It was a strange year like a great wine that was on the verge of souring, strange like a really good sad movie or a great party followed with a terrible hangover. It was one of those years that makes you scratch your head and wonder if it was good at all. Or bad at all. It was a technicolor rainbow of every conceivable emotion. And in that sense, I guess one could say that is what life is. Bland is not a word that I will associate with 2007. It was anything but bland.

I don't like hung jury's or ties or uncertainty. I like to say that a year rocked or a year sucked big. And right now, I'm kind of on the fence. I have a hundred pounds of shit on one side of the scale and a hundred pounds of chocolate on the other, and with my vision, I can't always tell which is which. I'm looking for these scales to tip. It would drive me crazy to end the year with this kind of balance. And I'm not so much of a fatalist as to vote for a bad year. I truly want 2007 to end with a bang and eclipse any uncertainty between the good and the bad.

So we are going to try our hardest at the Hideout to tip the scales and press a little harder on the pedal. Selfishly, we want 2007 to end with a bang, and selfishly, we want you to join us.

Example #1 - Wednesday, December 19th - Earl the Robotic Art Dealer
As some of you might have noticed, the jukebox is gone and a big white square has taken its place. What, you ask is under this sheet? A robot. And not your average robot either. This is a state of the art, high tech, Robotic Art Dealer. His name is Earl. And he is pregnant with the most interesting, diverse selection of two and three dimensional works, that some may call a one stop shop for the whole family. Earl holds a ton of art, accepts 1s, 5s, 10s and 20s, and will gladly spit something out for you right on the spot. It is a great drunken impulse purchase, with no risk of remorse because it is filled with treasure. Artists include Jesse Edwards, Jennifer McNeely, Jim Blanchard, Kathy Kim, Steven Miller, Joey Veltcamp, James Jaxxa, Dylan Neuwirth, Jessixa and Aaron Bagley, the list just goes on and on. Earl the Robotic Art Dispenser stands alone in the Seattle contemporary art scene and once you see his selection, you'll know he is here to dominate. Please join us on Wednesday to help usher in a new era of art commerce. Price: Free.

The Dusty 45s @ The Hideout

Example #2 - Thursday, December 20th - The Dusty 45s

Yes, Billy Joe and crew are back for a south of the border, tequila drinking Christmas party. If there was a door charge we would offer a money back guarantee. It is so good and so fun that you'll forget about your upcoming family obligations, the last minute shopping and the state of the union. Throw back a few shots, grab a dance partner and flip your middle finger to a functional Friday. These guys play so hard and fast that you can't help but smile and think that things aren't so bad. Not so bad at all. It's an up close and personal evening with the Dusty 45s and if you think I'm exaggerating, well, then you've never seen them at the Hideout. Price: Free

TIG: Tullycraft, Rachel Flotard & Jon Rauhouse and friends

Greetings!

Santa John Roderick!Just when we thought the Imaginary Showcase marking the holidays / imaginary Liz's birthday couldn't get any more spectacular, we have just learned that John Roderick (The Long Winters, dapper man about town) is going to be our Indie Rock Santa!

We'll even have a complete holiday-themed throne for our dear St. Nick/John and the lovely and super talented Laura Musselman on hand to take free photos of you and Santa for your mantel.

Here's more details on the show (which benefits Treehouse for Kids). Mark your calendar! We need you there to ring in the holidays properly!

Join us Thursday, Dec 20, 2007 at the Crocodile for a fabulous night of music from:

Tullycraft
Tullycraft's latest album has been heralded by critics and commoners alike for its swift kicks of cuddly indie-pop and wit. They bring on the dancing horses and good times live too. As Pitchfork wrote, "Tullycraft kick[s] some twee ass."

Rachel Flotard & Jon Rauhouse and friends!
The night is extra special as Rachel Flotard {Visqueen} & Jon Rauhouse {Neko Case} are joining forces with a gaggle of superhero friends {Bill Herzog, Mark Pickerel, and Paul Rigby} to give us a set of holiday tunes, their regulars, and hilarity.

Your Favorite Book
YFB specializes in candid Weakerthans melodies, bookish John Linnell-esque nasal vocals, and early Mountain Goats lo-fi acoustic guitar strums. This show will be a rare performance from this elusive character who usually opts to shuffle his music with crafty handmade cd releases and small, underground shows.

Jingles and mistletoes,

One Pot Dinner at the Hideout

Example #3 - Sunday, December 23rd - One Pot Dinner at the Hideout

There used to be a time that everyone in Seattle was from Seattle. Really. Now days it's a little harder to find a local, a little harder to pull together a group of friends close to the holidays. Well, for all of you sticking around this holiday, we invite you to a very special dinning event at the hideout. We pull the cocktail tables aside, set up a 22 foot dining table against the settee and arrange a 30 person dinner party. It would be one thing if it just looked cool, and something all together different if the food was nothing short of extraordinary. Introduce the culinary genius of Michael Hebberoy and his traveling, unconventional One Pot manifesto (www.onepot.org) and you have an unforgettable evening of great food, great conversation and great drink. With only 30 seatings, these events sell out faster than a Van Halen concert (circa 1981) so we present it first come first serve. Email us at: hideout@vital5productions.com and please limit your party to you and one guest. The price is $40.00 per person + gratuity + drink, but the memory is priceless.
