Pacific Northwest Mushroom Festival

Seattle Spin writes:

Food: Mushroom Festival, June 28-29th, $5. Mushroom fans tend to be real earthy people. They have some A-list Seattle cooking talent providing demonstrations, as well as notable sponsors. While everyone knows about the button mushroom, they explore mushrooms in other edible dimensions. To round the festival out, there's an antique show.

Here are more details:

The First Pacific Northwest Mushroom

Festival will be held
June 28 and 29, 2008

This two-day event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2008, at the Nisqually Middle School in Lacey, Washington.

8100 Steilacoom Road at Marvin Road

This event is sponsored by the Hawks Prairie Rotary Club. All Mushroom Festival proceeds support local Rotary supported community and international projects.

Celebrate the mushroom with food, music, children’s activities and a variety of entertainment.

Artopia @ Georgetown

June 28th. Noon - 10pm. Georgetown, Seattle WA.

Welcome to Artopia Seattle Weeklys second annual celebration of all local innovative art and emerging talent. Artopia is a multi-disciplinary event that boasts an eclectic mix of art, ranging from the renowned to the obscure to the completely undiscovered.

As you wander through Georgetown, there are surprises around every corner. The program itself is unconventional, idiosyncratic, and welcoming, all like the neighborhood that hosts us. We take over the streets of Georgetown, the parking lots, alleyways, artist lofts, and warehouses and create an urban arts adventure you do not want to miss!

Oliver Herring | Task @ Seattle Public Central Library

Oliver Herring | Task

1o am to 5:30pm

Go after 4 pm so you can park without worrying about the parking meter running out.

On Saturday, June 28, the Frye, in collaboration with our partners the Seattle Public Library, On the Boards, and Tacoma Art Museum, will stage Oliver Herring’s performance Task. An improvisational event, Task brings together a group of thirty-five strangers of diverse ages, professions, and backgrounds to create an original site-specific artwork. The performance will take place over the course of the day at the Seattle Public Central Library in downtown Seattle. The audience for Task, if it is a usual summer day at the library, will be 7,000 people, making this performance as dynamic for the public as for the performers.

PUNCH presents Fragile Balance, an exhibition of new paintings and sculpture by Patricia Hagen. In this latest work, Hagen draws inspiration from looking at electron microscope photos of cells, bacteria, viruses, and other organisms. For Hagen, the jumble of forms represents the amalgam of life in its ever evolving set of systems, and the balance necessary to maintain those systems. Using watercolor and polymer clay, she examines the structure of these organisms, and considers their place in our lives.

Hagen received her MFA from California College of the Arts in 1994 and relocated to Seattle in 2001, where she has since shown at Bryan Ohno Gallery and SAM rental/sales gallery. Her work was featured in the 2007 Pacific Coast edition of New American Painting.
