BLVD Gallery is going electric this friday with a FREE live musical
performance by Seattle based band FOSCIL.
Foscils music is an amalgam of diverse influences touching on the
atmospheric production of Wu Tangs RZA,
the out-jazz of Miles, and the psychedelic meandering of Zappa. After
curating the audio environment for the
"Claimin' Space" art exhibition at this years Bumbershoot Festival to
much acclaim, Foscil is the perfect fit for the
atmosphere of BLVD Gallery. Also performing will be Seattle DJ
Collective Hidden Habitats. known for the complex
mixes they create often utilizing 3 or more turntables. The evening
will be early with the music starting at 8pm and ending at 10ish.
A perfect early setup for a friday night. Oh, did I mention the show is

THE THERMALS @ Neumos
The prospect of an unknown, unpolished, unready band being put in the national spotlight is not longer even close to rare. Every week the not incredibly discerning ear of music blogs and websites tunes in to bands with nary an album to their name. The banner of Next Big Thing is proferred and then forgotten as the dutiful keyboard jockeys move on to the next diamond in the rough. But when Sub Pop released the Thermals' debut More Parts Per Million just 6 years ago, that wasn't the case and the recording stood out in all its tinny ecstatic punk joy, loose screws exposed. The standout track's chorus "Hardly art, hardly garbage," hit close enough to the bone to make the band seem at once silly and important. Something between garbage and art. Fortunately that album was released by Sub Pop, a label that has stood behind the band as it has developed a more complex, mature sound, all for a growing fanbase's viewing pleasure. It's hard to say, but the Thermals might be the last great crappy band.

Operation Nightwatch Event @ Tost

Come for a night of music while supporting Seattle's homeless during the holiday season. Tost is hosting an event for the Operation Nightwatch- a local nonprofit that provides food, clothing and hygiene kits to the homeless. DJ J. Schell, Sound Psyence, Professor Direkt and others will provide the entertainment. The cover is $7.00 and all proceeds go to Operation Nightwatch (www.seattlenightwatch.org). The Punk Rock Flea Market features 40 vendors, more than 500 shoppers, and three amazing local bands: Rough Chukar, KLED, and Dance Music for Depressed People! The Punk Rock Flea Market will take place on December 1 at the Underground Events Center, 2407 1st Ave. in Belltown. Doors open at 10:00 am. Live bands take the stage at 6:00-ish.
This time around, we are opening more table space, and we are welcoming creators and purveyors of secondhand and vintage clothing,housewares, used records, cds, videos, books, buttons, political propaganda, tote bags made of felt and feathers, cards and postcards, action figures, knick-knacks, clutter, lampshades, belt buckles, bicycles, jewelry, comic books, video games and gaming systems, computer hardware, screenprinted t-shirts, art prints, buttons, baby clothes, leather goods, toys, smoking paraphernalia, and much much more.
We will have on-site vendors providing haircuts and bike repair. We will have food and beverage vendors, and a performance stage which will come alive in the evening. This is a family-friendly event, and beer and alcohol will be available for people 21+ with ID.
The space for the PRFM has been generously loaned to us for the day by the Low Income Housing Institute, aka. LIHI. LIHI is a non-profitorganization that builds homes for homeless and low-income people all around the Puget Sound. Table fees and entry donations go toward paying insurance and advertising costs for this event. Once those expenses are covered, all additional proceeds will go to LIHI.

Robert Kuttner is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the left-liberal political magazine The Prospect. In his new book, The Squandering of America, Kuttner argues that the abandonment of policies, institutions, and regulations in place since the New Deal has enriched the already wealthy at the expense of America’s lower and middle classes. He compares the causes of the Great Depression to behavior patterns evident in our market system today, with unfavorable conclusions. James Fallows calls this book “persuasive and powerfully argued.” Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company.

This year Aqua Art Miami will take place in two locations simultaneously, one at the Aqua Hotel in South Beach, near Art Basel Miami Beach where we first launched the fair in 2005. Our additional new venue, Aqua Wynwood, is in a warehouse in Miami's Wynwood gallery district, near important venues like the Rubell Collection and many others.
This year we'll feature 44 galleries at the Aqua Hotel, with more than half of the dealers being new to our fair. Based on the west coast, fair organizers have made it their mission to promote noteworthy programs in their region as well as the greater USA, with a particular interest in supporting young dealers and galleries with strong emerging artist programs. Approximately a third of the galleries are from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with the remainder being from a wide range of other cities in the US and abroad.
The hotel itself is a classic South Beach boutique hotel with breezy, spacious rooms surrounding an intimate courtyard, which has become a favorite gathering spot to relax and socialize during Art Basel week. Our event is located within walking distance of Art Basel, just south of the bustling Lincoln Road restaurant and shopping area. Many hotel beach bars and cocktail events are close by and the glorious beach itself is just a block away.
An Aqua shuttle will run in a continual loop between the hotel and Art Basel Miami Beach each day during regular event hours, stopping near the Botanical Garden across from the Convention Center entrance D.

PUNCH and SOIL team-up to present the work of 16 artists from across the US and beyond. Nearly 1000 entries were submitted from more than 300 artists. Juried by Eric Fredericksen, director of Western Bridge, this exhibition includes a focused assemblage of photography, video, sculpture, ink on paper, cough drop labels and other mixed media. Themes include spills, spots, piles, trash, smoke, mirrors, bread, sunsets, Jesus, trees, motor homes, and a poodle.
Juror’s statement:
“Given the rich assortment of work submitted for this exhibition, a juror could make any number of exhibitions. Given the two spaces and their divergent histories, I chose to make two linked, loosely thematic exhibitions. At SOIL, a series of confrontations with geometry, at PUNCH, confrontations with nature. Documentary imagery dominates, though what is being documented is often a constructed situation. Responding to tensions in the work between structure and entropy, as between representation and abstraction, the exhibition remains unresolved. Each space will also display work which does not fit into this scheme, in order that the scheme not completely destroy the illusion that an exhibition juried by a single juror could result in an objective accounting of the best work submitted.”

Hey, so my friend "No Touching Ground" and other Seattle's local artists are having a big instillation at the house/apartment behind of Kincora this Friday! It's a part of the block where they will build a condo, so they're gonna tear down the building after this show. It will be like another Bridge Motel Art Show probably.
But this time, tickets are required to enter the building. They only have 333 tickets available at the crape shop bottom of the Convention Center on Pine on the date of the art show, which is Friday the 30th. Ticket to enter is free, but they have a late night performance on the rooftop and that ticket will be between $5 to $15, not sure yet. Both tickets are available at the same place. The crape stop is on Pike, in the building of Convention Center, next to Subway. One person can only get 2 tickets. So, if you are interested in this, go get the tickets! :) I will go for sure! Hope to see you all there....

THE THERMALS @ Neumos
The prospect of an unknown, unpolished, unready band being put in the national spotlight is not longer even close to rare. Every week the not incredibly discerning ear of music blogs and websites tunes in to bands with nary an album to their name. The banner of Next Big Thing is proferred and then forgotten as the dutiful keyboard jockeys move on to the next diamond in the rough. But when Sub Pop released the Thermals' debut More Parts Per Million just 6 years ago, that wasn't the case and the recording stood out in all its tinny ecstatic punk joy, loose screws exposed. The standout track's chorus "Hardly art, hardly garbage," hit close enough to the bone to make the band seem at once silly and important. Something between garbage and art. Fortunately that album was released by Sub Pop, a label that has stood behind the band as it has developed a more complex, mature sound, all for a growing fanbase's viewing pleasure. It's hard to say, but the Thermals might be the last great crappy band.

Tost is hosting an event for the Operation Nightwatch- a local nonprofit that provides food, clothing and hygiene kits to the homeless. DJ J. The Punk Rock Flea Market features 40 vendors, more than 500 shoppers, and three amazing local bands: Rough Chukar, KLED, and Dance Music for Depressed People! The Punk Rock Flea Market will take place on December 1 at the Underground Events Center, 2407 1st Ave. in Belltown. Doors open at 10:00 am. Live bands take the stage at 6:00-ish.
This time around, we are opening more table space, and we are welcoming creators and purveyors of secondhand and vintage clothing,housewares, used records, cds, videos, books, buttons, political propaganda, tote bags made of felt and feathers, cards and postcards, action figures, knick-knacks, clutter, lampshades, belt buckles, bicycles, jewelry, comic books, video games and gaming systems, computer hardware, screenprinted t-shirts, art prints, buttons, baby clothes, leather goods, toys, smoking paraphernalia, and much much more.
We will have on-site vendors providing haircuts and bike repair. We will have food and beverage vendors, and a performance stage which will come alive in the evening. This is a family-friendly event, and beer and alcohol will be available for people 21+ with ID.
The space for the PRFM has been generously loaned to us for the day by the Low Income Housing Institute, aka. LIHI. LIHI is a non-profitorganization that builds homes for homeless and low-income people all around the Puget Sound. Table fees and entry donations go toward paying insurance and advertising costs for this event. Once those expenses are covered, all additional proceeds will go to LIHI.

Robert Kuttner: ‘The Squandering of America’
Robert Kuttner is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the left-liberal political magazine The Prospect. In his new book, The Squandering of America, Kuttner argues that the abandonment of policies, institutions, and regulations in place since the New Deal has enriched the already wealthy at the expense of America’s lower and middle classes. He compares the causes of the Great Depression to behavior patterns evident in our market system today, with unfavorable conclusions. James Fallows calls this book “persuasive and powerfully argued.” Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company.

This year Aqua Art Miami will take place in two locations simultaneously, one at the Aqua Hotel in South Beach, near Art Basel Miami Beach where we first launched the fair in 2005. Our additional new venue, Aqua Wynwood, is in a warehouse in Miami's Wynwood gallery district, near important venues like the Rubell Collection and many others.
This year we'll feature 44 galleries at the Aqua Hotel, with more than half of the dealers being new to our fair. Based on the west coast, fair organizers have made it their mission to promote noteworthy programs in their region as well as the greater USA, with a particular interest in supporting young dealers and galleries with strong emerging artist programs. Approximately a third of the galleries are from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with the remainder being from a wide range of other cities in the US and abroad.
The hotel itself is a classic South Beach boutique hotel with breezy, spacious rooms surrounding an intimate courtyard, which has become a favorite gathering spot to relax and socialize during Art Basel week. Our event is located within walking distance of Art Basel, just south of the bustling Lincoln Road restaurant and shopping area. Many hotel beach bars and cocktail events are close by and the glorious beach itself is just a block away.
An Aqua shuttle will run in a continual loop between the hotel and Art Basel Miami Beach each day during regular event hours, stopping near the Botanical Garden across from the Convention Center entrance D.

PUNCH and SOIL team-up to present the work of 16 artists from across the US and beyond. Nearly 1000 entries were submitted from more than 300 artists. Juried by Eric Fredericksen, director of Western Bridge, this exhibition includes a focused assemblage of photography, video, sculpture, ink on paper, cough drop labels and other mixed media. Themes include spills, spots, piles, trash, smoke, mirrors, bread, sunsets, Jesus, trees, motor homes, and a poodle.
Juror’s statement:
“Given the rich assortment of work submitted for this exhibition, a juror could make any number of exhibitions. Given the two spaces and their divergent histories, I chose to make two linked, loosely thematic exhibitions. At SOIL, a series of confrontations with geometry, at PUNCH, confrontations with nature. Documentary imagery dominates, though what is being documented is often a constructed situation. Responding to tensions in the work between structure and entropy, as between representation and abstraction, the exhibition remains unresolved. Each space will also display work which does not fit into this scheme, in order that the scheme not completely destroy the illusion that an exhibition juried by a single juror could result in an objective accounting of the best work submitted.”
