A CLOCKWORK ORANGE: REMIXED

Seattle School and Open Circle Theater presents

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE: REMIXED

Remix a movie like you would a song. It’s a simple idea, really.

INT – Theater, Day. A harried publicist enters house left. He is disheveled, mid-thirties, and would be the spitting image of Stanley Kubrick, if Kubrick was a nervous Asian. The theater is completely white, blindingly bright, and has a subliminal whiff of fresh milk.

PUBLICIST

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking we took the screenplay and then carefully and tastefully adapted the film for the stage – A Clockwork Orange: Xeroxed. Uh … no. Tasteful? Nope. You’re way, way off, amigo. That would be a yawn farm, a snore orgy. A snorgy. This ain’t no uninspired regurgitation. This production takes the ethos of hip hop sample pirates, who mine source materials and then imagine completely new worlds with them. We do the same thing but for film, create a completely new narrative, and then in a blink, abandon everything.

Enter twins holding hands. One has the body of Nicole Kidman, the other Tom Cruise. They both have heads of Peter Sellers.

TWINS (simultaneously)

Silence, Asian Kubrick-esque publicist! It’s you who’s the snorgy. Also, you fail to mention the seamless and stunning integration of several live disciplines: movement, acting, media capture, media playback. Imagine several moving screens playing different streams of film, interacting with dancing actors, while the audience is encapsulated in a cocoon of light and deconstruction. It’s like Cirque du Soleil, if it was curated by Stan Brakhage and did not suck. In fact, it rules! A Clockwork Orange : REMIXED cannot be missed by any art snob or proto-hipster worth their insouciance.

Everyone dances demurely. FIN.
Directed by Ron Sandahl and Aaron Allshouse
Choreography by Emma Hassett

Guerrilla Masquerade Party #28 - ANIMAL FARM

This time the theme is Animal Farm:

Happy New Year Guerrillas!

It was a pig named Old Major who set the wheels in motion of the animals of England taking over Mr. Jones farm on a Saturday in June - but it shall be a rabbit named Dirty Bunny who sets in motion the animals of Seattle taking over a local bar on a Saturday in February...

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD is ANIMAL FARM!

Pull out your fur and feathers and fins and get ready for a night of bestial bacchanalia. Whether you wear wings or have hooves, you're bound to have a blast. Women with scales & tails, beaked freaks, and maned men are all invited. Pigs, horses, chickens and cows... Dogs and cats and rats and sows... Come one, come all.

And you needn't come as a traditional farm animal... Why not a crocodile or a leopard? A platypus or a buffalo herd? Maybe even a cockroach or a mynah bird? We'll be a roving zoological garden the likes of which the world has never seen.

And fantastical beasts certainly won't be out of place... a Unicorn or a Dragon? A flying monkey or the sphinx?

The rebellious creatures of Orwell's original Animal Farm had Seven Commandments. .. though anyone who's read the book knows they largely fell by the wayside. So I think we can scratch out#5 right now.

1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
(5. No animal shall drink alcohol.)
6. No animal shall kill another animal.
7. All animals are equal.

So get those creature costumes collected and created and come join the rebellion! What could be better on a cold winter night than getting all dressed up in a warm fur outfit? Whether your a full-time furry or a first-timer, you'll have a blast at this conclave of critters.
Details on the location of this party will be revealed closer to the date of the party. But trust us; we've got someplace perfect in mind.

February also marks the 4 year Anniversary of Guerrilla Masquerade Party! So come on out and raise a glass in celebration.

See ya soon!

Guerrilla Masquerade Party

And here is the information about the location:

Hey Guerrillas!

What's the perfect location for an Animal Farm theme party? OK, probably a bar called 'The Farm'... but in light of there not being a bar by that name in Seattle, we have another great choice:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD AT 10PM
GMP 'ANIMAL FARM' INVADES
THE EASTLAKE ZOO TAVERN!

Known for both its history of being a biker hangout and it's plethora of games, the Eastlake Zoo has been a Seattle institution since 1974. It's possibly the only place in town you'll find a vintage 1914 snooker table, 5 pool tables, full sized shuffleboard, and three dartboards.. . two of which are of the standard, non-electronic variety. It also has lots of space, wildly eclectic decor, and is in a neighborhood we have yet to invade: Eastlake.

So get your hairy hats and feathery frocks ready to join the takeover this Saturday!

The Eastlake Zoo Tavern is located at 2301 Eastlake Avenue East, at the corner of Eastlake Avenue East and E Lynn St. It is a CASH ONLY bar, so be sure to grab some moolah on the way to the party.

See you Saturday!

Los TexManiacs @ Rainier Valley Cultural Center

I thought I should throw this one into the mix too. Not many people know what's happening in Seattle's "emerging neighborhoods". You know what I mean with "emerging neighborhoods", don't you? Well, this little story might help:
When I helped picking up a car that got stolen and left behind after it had run out of gas I asked the towing guy how you start a car without keys - just hypothetically. He explained to me: "You use a Rainier Valley key" and pulled a screw driver out of his pocket.

So how shall I phrase the following event recommendation without offending anybody? How about this:
If you want to get in touch with one of Seattle's oldest emerging neighborhoods and the colorful music some individuals might or might not play while driving "borrowed" cars that had been started with a Rainier Valley key you don't want to miss Los TexManiacs!
