Events from 12/29 to 1/5/2007

Another year is ending. But as always there will be tons of parties to go to. Let me reiterate our rules for successful partying - in case you are not familiar with them:
1. private parties are better than commercial parties.
2. don't party hop too much - or you might spend NYE in your car
3. party with your friends - you are the party.

I might have to stay at home this weekend. Our dog Joe has a bad case of hookworms. You get them from eating horse poop - Joe loves horse poop. He is now on medication, which causes hefty diarrhea (the 'shit storm' kind of diarrhea). Oh well, you can't always win if you live with a dog.

Happy New Year!

Chrome Toast @ Fenix Underground

#5 Chrome Toast #2!!!

What is Chrome Toast? Well, it's a new way for
burners to come together the last weekend of every
month. The Fenix Underground (one of the venues we
looked at for Seacompression) has taken over the
Premier Nightclub. It is a HUGE space located just
south of Safeco Field on 1st Ave.

The owners, who are burners, and Michael Manahan
(co-founder of the Oracle Gatherings) wanted to give
back to the community and have a good event at the
same time. They are offering theme camps the
opportunity to use their space for an event and those
in the camp will produce the event in
conjunction with Fenix. Theme camps who participate
will get a door cut as well as tickets to sell for
themselves. This is an amazing opportunity for many
camps and people out there! Chrome Toast will have
fire and theatre performance, as well as up and coming
acts and national headliners.

Would you like to get your theme camp or Burning Man
Group involved with an upcoming Chrome Toast? Just
email Michael Manahan at
michael@oraclegatherings.com

This round of Chrome Toast brings you the theme
camps MoonBass & Enthion Villiage. other than they
are a MoonBass is a camp comprised of the 360BPM
crew from Seattle and other DnB/Dubstep crews from
around, they are just getting started and last year

They are a theme camp dedicated to bridging the
cultures of ancient and modern shamanism, visionary
art, psychedelic music and progressive philosophical
theory, with a thought provoking blend of speaker

and fire performances, multi media art and visually

Fifth Annual Polar Plunge at Matthews Beach

Start 2007 Off Right: Fifth Annual Polar Plunge Coming Up New Year's Day!

Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Meadowbrook Community Center Advisory Council are co-sponsoring the Fifth Annual Polar Bear Swim at high noon on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 at Matthews Beach, 9300 51st Ave. NE. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m.

There will be refreshments and a "2007 Official Patch of Courage" for all brave polar bears who immerse themselves neck-deep in the lake, to prove to friends and loved ones that they actually braved the frigid waters, which in 2006 measured at a chilly 46 degrees Fahrenheit.

"This new Seattle tradition grows every year," noted Parks Superintendent Ken Bounds. "We started in 2003 with about 200 participants, and last year 800 polar bears joined us. We hope to top that number on New Year's Day."

At the 2006 swim, the wind was fierce, the air temperature was 50, the turnout set a record, and outstanding costumes included the Conehead, Skeletor, a caveman, Superman, Spiderman, and the group who wore hats with polar bears mounted on them. Parks staff distributed Polar Bear Vitamins (marshmallows) to each bear who felt he or she needed an "edge."

Parks offers a few tips for enjoying a fun, safe swim:

* If you have heart problems or other serious medical concerns, we recommend you consult your health care professional before taking the Polar Plunge.
* Don't drink alcohol - it doesn't warm you up, and it accelerates hypothermia.
* Don't stay in the water for longer than 15 minutes - you lose body heat 25 times faster in water than in air.
* Don't take off your outer clothing until you're ready to get in the water.
* Costumes are part of the fun, and are welcome!

Witnesses to history will, at each participant's request, record the names of the brave souls who complete the mission and the water temperature, normally about 50 degrees F. on Jan. 1.
