Events for 12/30/2005 - 1/5/2006

As expected we'll have a lot of events on New Year's Eve. You might remember Party Volcano's Halloween Consumer Report, which we published in 2002 (I think). The report basically confirmed some of our guide lines for successful partying that also apply for NYE parties:

(1) Private parties are better than commercial parties.
(2) Don't try to find the best party. Compulsive party hoppers spend the evening in cars or cabs.
(3) Party with your friends. The DJ might suck but your friends don't. A bad party with friends is better than being bored to tears at a party with a good DJ.

Well, this is it for this year. Hurry up and send Shapey an email to get two VIP passes for his gig!

Take care,

Don Volcano.

HEAVEN: PRESENTED BY DECIBEL
After the success and critical acclaim of the 2005 Decibel Festival, the Decibel organization plans to ring in the New Year with a bang. Headlining Heaven will be none other than John Tejada (Poker Flat, Playhouse, Pallette - L.A.) whose live Tech House P.A. was the highlight of the 2004 Decibel Festival. John will once again be performing his impeccable brand of futuristic funk, sure to please anyone with an ear for cutting edge dance music. Also performing in Heaven will be Decibel Creative Director Jerry Abstract and Decibel Executive Director/Curator Sean Horton (a.k.a. Nordic Soul) who will be throwing down a rare tag team DJ set as "Abstract Soul". Last time this dynamic duo shared the stage, they tore the roof off of Chop Suey opening up for Derrick May.

HELL: PRESENTED BY STATIC FACTORY MEDIA
With a little bit for everyone, Static Factory Media combines modern vaudeville, burlesque, aerialists and the sweet sounds of WD40's(Zulu Radio KBCS 91.3FM) hip hop, diem's (Critical Mass) funky disco house, FCS North's (Lucky horse Industries, Contact, Pacifico) mind blowing compositions and Circus Contraption's wildly unharnessed concoctions. 'Circus Contraption puts a contemporary twist on circus music traditions with an aesthetic described by The Stranger as "a cross between Tom Waits and Wings of Desire" and by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer as "the last surviving klezmer band in outback Paraguay." ' Of course Hell just wouldn't be its debaucherous self without the sultry girls of The Atomic Bombshells, a dodge ball court, and pillow fight club. Be wary my friend.

Come dressed to impress, lounge around on the grassy knoll, get your picture taken and bring the New Year in with style!

New Year's Swaray Numbero Quattro @ Porta

Eric writes:

Hi,
This is the knucklehead free party I'll be spinning at for NYE.
It has all the things you want in a NYE party. Hotness, Grooveness, Drinkness, and Hotness.
Come down. You'll love it.

Kisses

Happy Holidays~

We trust this invite finds you in good spirits, and in the mood to say “Happy Freakin New Year!!!” a couple hundred times.

We are very excited to announce our 4th annual New Years Eve Swaray, and you, your friends, their friends, and their friends' friends are invited! For those that were there the past three years you know this party is dope – and as usual we aim to make it even doper – so that on Jan. 1 you’ll say “That was the dopest party”.

We have moved locations this year, mainly due to the fact that our previous location went out of business and the new guy there is some crusty old dude who doesn’t like to have fun. Our new location at Porta by the Market is a perfect spot for this event. It’s sexy, warm and fun.

As usual the overall vibe will be laid back and stress free. Simply show up with your good mood and a good haircut, everything else is up to your individual style. And since this is a controlled list we won’t have any classic New Year’s riff-raff.

For a sample of the vibe ... check out the photo album from last year's party:

http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=klpzjxi.lxwxws2&Uy=xc59u2&Ux=1

This year's entertainment lineup includes 2 DJs and a live percussionist, with DjE aka Eric Schmidt and Darek Mazzone from KEXP 90.3 will be the 1’s and 2’s all night long. We are going to be playing a wide range of cuts :: Funky-Deep House, Latin, Afro-Beat, South Asian Funk, Old School Hip-Hop, New School Funk, New Kids on the Block. We are gonna cover the globe and it’s gonna be bumpin fo’sho!!!!

DjE will also release his “An Evening of House V. 4”. This year’s installment is a complete mystery, because he hasn’t finished it yet. However, he would like to reassure you that it will make you very happy. The typical response after listening to this cd will be “wow, I’m a really good dancer!”

Porta by the Market is a chill Greek lounge located a few blocks from the market. There is ample space in the square block around Porta to get a really great view of the fireworks at midnight.

Who~
You, your friends, etc. Just make sure they are cool and like to have a good time. Note: This year we are capping the invite accepts at 225. Like every year we are closing the doors once we are at capacity. We are also capping the number of additional guests on your response at 5. If you are coming out with a crew of 12 or whatever, you need to use the “invite more guests” option. This way we don’t have 4 people hoggin’ half the guest list, ya dig?

Other Details...
• There's just a $15 cover pp. (proceeds go to Community For Youth)
• Fireworks of the Needle
• 2 Hot Dj’s, Bumpin cuts, live percussion and beautiful people
• Parking – there is a parking lot located next to the restaurant for your parking convenience. Plus plenty of meter parking.
• Coat check – Yes. Our bad from last year. We forgot.

NYE with The Ian McFeron Band @ Conor Byrne Pub

New Year’s Eve

A special New Years Eve event at the Conor Byrne Pub--the historic Ballard pub where the full band first played. The Tractor Tavern is co-sponsoring the show, and there will be a primo sound system for this show. This will be the longest show (9pm-1am) the band has played in Seattle since July of 2004. The club will be decorated in the spirit of the holidays, and party favors will be available at the door!

In 2005, McFeron released his sophomore record, "A Long Way to Freedom." A new CD is in the works for 2006. McFeron is a lyrical singer/songwriter in the tradition of such folk greats as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and contemporary favorites Ryan Adams and David Gray. McFeron (vocals, acoustic guitars, piano) is accompanied by the Texas fiddle of Alisa Milner, the eclectic bluesy fingers of Tracy Goodsmith (electric guitar) and the back-beat rhythms of Todd VanSelus (bass) and Mark Bateman (drums). Much of the group's rapid and steady ascent can be attributed to their unique sound--a blend of musical influences that range from groove-based acoustic rock to folk, alt-country, and gritty blues. A live set by the Ian McFeron Band combines the dynamic charisma of the early Beatles with the raw live passion of the Dave Matthews Band.

For those going out on NYE, 'Comeback' at Chop Suey is on my list! I am MCing there all night. It's sure to sell out and there are cheap presales @ Chop Suey beforehand. They are raffling off tons of cool shit!

Come play as I'm bartending all morning after Comeback..... See you there.... and be sure to dress up for these "Burner Friendly' events!

Swimming with Seattle Polar Bear Club

I mentioned Vladimir last week:

Hello there I am Vladimir the Polar Bear,

and I am trying to organize a Seattle Polar Bear Club that goes swimming (outside) on New Year's Day. I am posting it on my website today. Do you think you could help spread the word?

Thanks! Vladimir

Have you heard of googlewhacking? You should try it if you have a lot of time on your hands. It works like this: Come up with a search term that generates only one Google result. One of those google whackers is "walled cohousings". How do I know?

Of course there is a site dedicated to googlewhacking:

The Whack List
http://www.googlewhack.com/tally.pl

I used to love Google but I am more and more realizing that their search engine filters out a lot of links. In other words what you see on a Google result page is not what is really out there. You might have heard of the term "Deep Web" which refers to Internet data that is not covered by search engines (usually company email or sometimes simply noise):

Deep Web
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_web

In some cases Google will let you know that it had to remove links without telling specific reasons. But I often find links that are not covered by Google. Either way, please let me know if you know of a search engine that digs a little bit deeper than Google.

Happy New Year!

Don Volcano.
