FEATURING …

The Cast of: A Clockwork Orange: REMIXED (Open Circle Theater 206.382.4250, Feb 2-24) in full theatrical costume – all drunk and randy

This early Friday evening, the cast of the upcoming epic hit show A Clockwork Orange: REMIXED will descend clad in full theatrical costume to the Hideout. There they will mingle awkwardly with other bar patrons. Milling, milling. Someone will rock on their heels neurotically. Until … MILK+ HAPPY HOUR! There’s no happy hour like a milk plus happy hour. And no better way to celebrate milk+ than teat suckling with a buncha drunk actors promoting their work. Check out the specials:

Milk+ Vellocet: milk and rum and fruit – basically a Pina Colada, but will add 12 tablets of Vivarin upon request

Milk+ Drencrom: milk and Kahlua and vodka – basically a White Russian, but due to complaints of racism will from now on be known as a Barack Obama
Milk+ MOM: milk and milk of magnesia – a nonalcoholic, punny, perplexing concoction for the self absorbed person who wants to make a point, even when nobody is paying attention
(All drinks come in soy milk+ versions for the metro-natural. And coffeemate+ versions for the preter-natural.)

Note: Although this is an A Clockwork Orange themed happy hour, no droopy penis popsicles for tongue bris tantalizations will be available. But feel free to bring with.

Sculpts Action Figures from Scratch @ BLVD Gallery.

Mike Leavitt Sculpts Action Figures from Scratch, Live as a Public
Performance at BLVD Gallery.

(Seattle, WA) Saturday January 27, 2006
Mike Leavitt's "Guerilla Art Army" artist action figure show will close
with a live performance event. The live sculpting will be a short
tutorial on his hand-built action figure construction process. It will
also be Leavitt's first public art performance since his "Push Button
Performer®" was done over 50 times in Washington State from 1999-2003.
Leavitt's BLVD show flanks his new diorama-shrouded action figures with
other art objects including a paper-cut wall mural and "Hip Hopjects"
such as a hand-carved wood cell phone, paper bag boom box, cardboard
Puma shoe, and beach glass "40" bottle.

Leavitt's artist action figures have been published in 3 books over the
last 3 months, including a 275-page hardback volume on art and designer
toys, Dot Dot Dash (Die Gestalten, Germany). He also does custom work,
sculpting action figures in wood and as family gifts, vanity pieces
and, most popularly, wedding cake toppers. His work has been featured
on many blogs including www.boingboing.net and
www.woostercollective.com, and the industrial design sites
www.core77.com and www.notcot.org. This live sculpting event will
include not only figurative sculpting, but the engineering and
technical elements of prototype-quality production.

"the tributes to Leavitt's heroes will do nothing more than put a big
dopy grin on your face. And sometimes that's all you need from art."

The Second Annual SEATTLE PARTY in NYC

Casey writes:

Hey: I know you are not in NYC, you got peeps there. Pass on the word if you can! Thanks. CK

P.S. Oh yeah, the premise of this party is that people from Seattle fucking rock and New York City is only the better for our presence.

And here are the details:

The Second Annual
SEATTLE PARTY

Need I say more?

This is a chance for people who grew up in the Seattle area, or who lived there at some point, to get together. Last year was a blast, so we’re bringing it back around. Loved ones, and of course, fans are welcome as well. We may even let a few Oregonians through the door. Please do your part and spread the good word to anyone who fits this bill.

We will be gathering in large numbers at a friend’s brand new spot in the Lower East Side called GalleryBar. It is located on Orchard St. and is both an art gallery and a bar. Just around the corner, is Dylan Dodd’s (of Garfield H.S. fame) Barrio Chino, serving slammin’ Mexican food, in a cozy setting with Chinese décor. They are also known for their jalapeno margaritas and dark ginger mojitos. We recommend grabbing a bite there before heading to the fiesta (Barrio Chino, 253 Broome St, Btwn. Orchard & Ludlow.)

Thanks and see you soon!

Birds and Bees @ PUNCH

Justin Gibbens:
Birds and Bees

Feb 1 - Feb 25, 2007
Hours: Noon-5 pm, Fri-Sun,
or by appointment: art@punchgallery.org

PUNCH presents a new series of watercolor drawings by Justin Gibbens. Using his background in scientific illustration, Gibbens has been meticulously rendering life-sized portraits of avian and insect species found here in the northwest. Imitating the conventions of 18th and 19th century zoological illustration, Gibbens stages awkward and hyperbolic interactions that question the science upon which these depictions are based. In his Birds and Bees series, he has illustrated isolated engagements of various species caught in the throes of conjugal relations and territorial disputes. Often borrowing directly from Audubon’s Birds of America, Gibbens further perpetuates a stylized version of natural history that is both curiously seductive and brutally violent.

Justin Gibbens lives in Thorp, Washington. He has shown nationally and internationally, and currently has work in Crawl Space’s Centennial exhibit and will have work in the SAM’s rental/sales gallery Introductions 2007 show in March. Gibbens was the recipient of a 2006 Pollock-Krasner Foundation award.
