Retail Therapy's Birthday Party

Probably my favorite this week. I am going!

3 years baby and counting

If you are receiving this email it means … I love you. NO JOKE. Three years have passed and I have often written my evites & emails from the “We” perspective and although it has been mainly a one-woman show… it couldn’t have happened without the help and support of all my good friends, family and faithful customers. It has been my consistent goal to build my community and my community has helped build my business and me. Growth and evolution are not always easy paths and so now more than ever I want to thank you for your continued support. You are invited to come celebrate the store’s 3-year anniversary in two parts. Part one is at the shop part two is at Des Amis for a little dancing and good old-fashioned fun. The first part consists of an open house and goodie bags. You can view my collection of art that I have been blessed by numerous generous artists that have shown here and see how we have evolved.

PROSPERITY in Eastern Washington

I like the rattlesnake part:

PROSPERITY ~ May 6th, 2006 ~ Eastern Washington, USA

Info & Driving Directions
Here is some important information regarding this year's gathering…

The date is Saturday May 6, 2006 beginning around 9pm, and will go until sometime Sunday afternoon, May 7.

We will be in Eastern Washington, and it will be pretty cold at night possibly in the 30's, so make sure you bring warm clothing. It will also be warm in the day, possibly in the 80's, so don't forget your sunscreen. And there is always a chance of a little rain, since we are in Washington.

This is a camping trip, so please make sure to bring all of the usual camping supplies i.e. tent, bedding, and things to keep warm.

There will be NO CAMP FIRES ALLOWED (there will be one fire pit on the dance floor, so PLEASE BRING WOOD FOR CONTRIBUTION), DO NOT BUILD ANY OTHER FIRES!!!!!FIRE DANCERS MUST TALK TO HEATHER FLIKKEMA AND UNDERSTAND THEY ARE RESTRICTED TO ONE AREA OF THE DANCE FLOOR!!!!

Make sure to bring plenty of food for the time that you plan to stay. There are no stores nearby, so if you run out, it will be very inconvenient for you.

Bring at least 1 gallon of drinking water per person, per day, plus whatever you will need for cooking, washing, etc. If you have a first aid kit, please bring it.

PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN! LEAVE NO TRACE! Please bring an ample amount of garbage bags for your camp and maybe for a friend's camp as well, and leave enough space in your vehicle for them once they are full.

Please dig a hole at least 6" deep for human waste and do not leave toilet paper behind. If you have a small shovel, it would be a good idea to bring it.

BE AWARE THAT THERE MAY BE RATTLESNAKES IN THE AREA

The Western Rattlesnake is indigenous to Eastern Washington, and is definitely venomous. If you have a snake bite kit, and again, first aid, please bring it along. Hopefully none of this will be necessary, but it's best to be prepared. Here is a link to help you identify a Western Rattlesnake if you see one.

PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY AND SOBER TO AND FROM THIS EVENT!

It is a long drive, which will include going over a mountain pass, and we want you there and back home safe, so please please please do not be under the influence of anything while driving.

The road from the highway to the location is a fairly rough dirt road, so take it slowly and carefully.

Directions to this year's gathering are as follows:

From Seattle, take I-5 N to Hwy 2 E or I-90 E. (Hwy 2 is a bit shorter, but you can drive a little faster on I-90, so the trips are pretty comparable.

Follow Hwy 2 E or I-90 E. to Wenatchee. This will be your last chance for food, water, gas, supplies, etc.

Continue on Hwy 2 E through Orondo and Waterville. From Waterville, stay on Hwy 2 E for 13 more miles until you come to Road "E" SW.

Turn RIGHT onto Road "E" SW and go 4 miles to Road 4. (This is a gravel road)

Turn RIGHT on Road 4 and go 3 miles to Road "H" SW.

Turn LEFT on Road "H" SW and go 5 miles until you get to a "primitive road".

Follow this road to the location. There are a couple of small creek crossings that most cars should be able to get through. Just take it SLOWLY and CAREFULLY on this road…it's pretty bumpy.

PLEASE adhere to the directions. There are a couple of houses on these gravel roads, and we'd like to keep the dust and disturbance to these people to a minimum. This will also help ensure that the event will go on until the end, without any "unwanted visitors".

When you get to the parking area, find a spot in one of the designated areas, or if none are available, please park off of the road enough so that others can get through. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE ROAD.

At this point, there is a larger creek crossing where, if you have a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle, you'll be able to get through and drive into the main area no problem. For other cars it depends on your clearance (recommend a twelve inch clearance) and where your air intake is (it must be above the water). If you do cross, cross slowly so as not to get any water into the air intake. A handful of people had to be towed across last year, and one person's car couldn't start afterward, and had to be towed into town…very expensive! It is a bit of a hike from this point (about 1 mi.), but an easy one. Perhaps there will be people with 4x4's willing to help carry your camping gear into the site.

Be mindful, help others who need it, and most of all ENJOY PROSPERITY!

Don Volcano's Computer Corner

I have seen a lot of videos that make fun of George W. Bush but these two recent videos stick out because of their execution quality. The first one is a collage of old Don Knotts movies put together in a flashy biography of our president. I like the part titled "The Lost Years" the best:

Don Knotts is "Dubya"
http://www.dubyamovie.com/

The other video is a C-SPAN recording of Stephen Colbert, who gave a pretty funny talk at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner last week.
The press decided to ignore it and I can see why:

Colbert's smart bomb

Until next week,
