New Poet Populist to read at Seattle’s biggest, coolest, hippest reading
series

November 9 at Richard Hugo House

SEATTLE, WA – Jourdan Keith – naturalist, educator, storyteller and
Seattle’s newest Poet Populist – will read at "A Night of Cheap Wine and
Poetry" on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 7-10 p.m. at Richard Hugo House.

Jourdan works closely with local children and teens as part of the Writers
in the Schools program and through her community-based organization, the
Urban Wilderness Project, which provides storytelling, restoration,
adventure and wilderness programming for youth and adults.

“I see poetry as a tool to enlighten and engage community and when necessary
to defend and heal our spirits; this is what I learned by coming through the
word womb of my mothers: Sonia Sanchez, Audre Lorde and others.”

"A Night of Cheap Wine and Poetry" is produced by from the ground up and
co-sponsored by Richard Hugo House.

Other featured readers will include Harvey Goldner, Brendan Regan, Willie

Don Volcano's Computer Corner

It has always been my opinion that the world would be a sad place without heavy metal bands. Every time I end up at a home page of a heavy metal band, or if I hear an angry song about nothing on the radio I get this distinguished "heavy metal smile" on my face. I always wonder: "What are they thinking? They can't be serious."

A month ago I was writing about Lordi, the Finnish monster rock band, that was the surprise winner of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. So when I read on Songfacts that people who liked "Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr" by Trivium also liked Lordi's "Hard Rock Hallelujah" I got curious.

Songfacts about Trivium
http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=6721

Who the hell is Trivium?

Trivium is a Heavy metal music band from Orlando, Florida. They formed in 2000 after the band's original singer saw Matt Heafy performing at the high school talent show. Ascendancy, their debut with Roadrunner Records, peaked at #151 on the US Billboard 200 and at #4 on the US Top Heatseekers charts.

Sounds like a winner band to me. And what is this song about?

Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr Lyrics
http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/117788366/Trivium/Pull_Harder_On_The_Strings_Of_Your_Martyr

Powerful, deep stuff isn't it? - But the real reason why I am writing about Trivium in this week's Computer Corner is this hilarious video that attempts a visual interpretation of Trivium's Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr. Actually this is how it started: Pmatt sent me the following funny video and the story got funnier as I learned more through my research. Thanks Pmatt!

Well, actually for me the lyrics are starting to make sense now.

Until next week,

Don Volcano.
