Tour in the Future: Come Visit the Historic Ruins of Highway 520

Nicole writes:

Hi all,

I wanted to invite you about an art event I'm
participating in THIS Friday, July 21st with 10 other
artists and performers. It's a fantastic collection
of installations and performances that all relate to
the proposed construction on the 520 bridge and how it
will affect the environment and cultural resources.
Please visit www.grassroutesarts.org for more info.

My tours begin at MOHAI - the Museum of History and
Industry at 4:45 pm and 7:10 pm. It's going to be
lots and lots of fun, and we will take a break for
Sangria! Please SEND ME an e-mail to sign up for each
of the tours.

Here is a description:

Tour in the Future: Come Visit the Historic Ruins of
Highway 520

Visit the historic ruins of Highway 520 and what
archaeologists believe to have been part of an
enormous transportation network throughout the former
United States. See one of the best-preserved
collections of petroleum-operated vehicles. View the
bridge ruins with one of the world's most insightful
tour guides, and take advantage of special viewpoints
and telescopes only available through this tour. This
tour also includes special opportunities to experience
new installations that allow participants to "drive"
their own single occupancy vehicle, and see
traditional performances by people from the same era
who warned their society about the dangers of oil
dependency. Our tour photographer will capture each
special moment for you. This is the most complete
tour of the entire "520 site" and one that will create
lasting memories for you and your family. Write a
postcard home! Not to be missed!!

See you there!

Circus Contraption's Grand American Traveling Dime Museum

Hi Party Volcano--
We will be presenting our final weekend of "Circus Contraption's Grand American Traveling Dime Museum" from July 20-23, and I'm sure you'll have some readers who will not want to miss it! Our show was a hit in Seattle, San Francisco and New York City for the last two years, and this year is the last time it will be presented in Seattle.

We also want you to know that as a fundraiser for our upcoming return run in New York City this summer, we'll be throwing a fabulous party on Saturday July 22 with champagne, goodies for donors, a live and silent auction, and a fantastic band set by the Circus Contraption Band, in addition to the show. Tickets are a little more for that night, but SO worth it! Last year's party was a blast.

Here's the info:
Circus Contraption's Grand American Traveling Dime Museum
July 13 - July 23, 2006

Thursdays through Sundays

Circus Contraption's Grand American Traveling Dime Museum, the hit show
which wowed audiences in New York City, San Francisco and Seattle over the
last two years, returns to Magnuson Park this July for a FINAL, limited
two-week run (eight nights only) in Seattle before making its triumphant
return to New York City in August and September.

This is positively the last time the Dime Museum's Collection of Exhibits
will be seen in the great City of Seattle, Washington. Featuring Miracles of
Man and Nature, Curiosities of the Past and Marvels of the Modern Age, a
veritable Confectionery of exquisite Novelties is guaranteed to educate and
entertain the genteel Visitor: Fanciful Fauna Formations! Audacious Dancing
Girls! Masterly Aerial Feats! Acrobatics both fiendish and melancholy! And
as always, outlandishly original Musical Arrangements of the First Quality,
performed by the unparalleled Circus Contraption Orchestra! Designed to
stimulate all aspects of the Human Organism, the Museum offers a unique
experience for every constitution.

Circus Contraption, Seattle's own one-ring Circus and pre-eminent Amusement
Institution, has earned the acclaim of critics on both coasts:

"The show offers enough moments of pure genius to make even the most
hardened urbanite pine for old, weird America. DON'T MISS!" TimeOutNY

"...chances to see shows this fun come along rarely at best." NYTheatre.com

"...an impressive array of talent, discipline and ingenuity." Seattle
Post-Intelligencer

"With great finesse and greater theatrical timing, the troupe evokes the
humor and wonder of... an earlier time." San Francisco Weekly

"Circus Contraption's Grand American Traveling Dime Museum," a full-circus
show featuring live aerial acts, acrobatics, juggling, dance, physical
comedy and original circus music, opens with a discounted preview
performance on Thursday July 13 and runs Thursdays through Sundays through
July 23: TWO WEEKS ONLY.

A Champagne Gala fundraiser for the New York run of "Dime Museum" will highlight the performance on Saturday July 22. This event includes a champagne reception, live and silent auction, and dancing on the stage to the Circus Contraption Band following the performance. Tickets for the Gala run $35 to $100 with special gifts for every donor level.

Advance tickets are available through www.BrownPaperTickets.com (1-800-838-3006). Advance ticket purchase is advised due to the likelihood of sell-out

Men's Event: Romp Naked.

I am adding this event for your amusement.
Seattle Spin writes:

Men's Event: Romp Naked, July 22nd . For men only, celebrate male form and energy through nude dance and music. Whatever this is, it certainly isn't an orgy. Rather, this is a gathering of men honoring the male spirit through shared experience. Besides, can you really imagine the visual on this: naked guys with hairy backs and pot bellies dancing around, with their wieners flopping about?

GMP #26: Friends, Romans, Countrymen

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Guerrillas!

It's summer, so it's time for some airy costumes designed for warm weather...

It's time to pay homage to a classic costume in new and exciting ways...
Time for a fashion icon to come out of the fraternity closet...
It's time for Guerrilla Masquerade Party to celebrate that most simple, most versatile, most last-minute of all costumes... THE TOGA!

On Saturday, July 22nd, come on out for FRIENDS, ROMANS, COUNTRYMEN

Lend us your ears, and wear something ancient. Maybe you've dreamed of being a Roman Centurion? Perhaps you always wanted to see your wife dress as Cleopatra to your Mark Antony? Do you and your boyfriend have fantasies about being Viking Warriors? Make it all come true!

Does your inner philosopher beg to be free? Wanna dress up like Plato, Socrates, or Aristotle? Or are you more the goddess type? Aphrodite, Athena, or Artemis strike your fancy?

Do you miss your Mummy? Give King Tut a resurrection for the night!

Whether you prefer a Parthenon, a Pyramid, or Plundering wenches, get yourselves ready for a night of classical fun.

We'll announce the official location(s) the week of the party, so for now, get your costumes ready!

Need help pulling together a toga-riffic outfit? Need some inspiration? Check out what is most likely the most exhaustive, emphatic 'Hot to Make a Toga' site ever!

This email just came in and has the details:

Hey Guerrillas!

Have you picked out some fabric to throw around you? Selected that
perfect breast-plate or viking helmut? Found some charcoal to create
dramatic Egyptian eyeliner?

No? Well get ready, cuz the next GMP, 'Friends, Romans, Countrymen'
is this Saturday, July 22nd!

And where would a bunch of ancient conquerors, philosophers, gods and
goddesses be most at home? We think the cobblestone streets of Paris.

Join us this Saturday, July 22nd at 10pm at Cafe Metropolitan - 1701
E. Olive Way
. It's a new(ish) bar across the street from B&O
Espresso, and the owners took their thematic decorating seriously.
From the fountain in the entryway to the strings of lights to the faux
storefronts to the wine-barrel tables, this place is amazing. A
perfect stage for a bunch of costumed partyers, we think.

Plus, they have amazing drink specials, friendly staff, free pool and
foosball, and plent of space to let your toga flow.

So pull the sheets off your bed, grab a safety pin and some ivy, and
come on out this Saturday night for 'Friends, Romans, Countrymen' at
Cafe Metropolitan!

See ya then!
