The aftermath of 9/11 continues to be a source of fear and
alienation to many Arabs and Arab-Americans. This August,
as we near the tragedy's fourth anniversary, the Arab Center
of Washington is proud to present a series of four films focusing
on its long-term impact on our communities. Emotional, inform-
ative and empowering, the timely grouping of these docu-
mentaries is intended to keep us aware and in touch with the
many poignant changes in our nation’s immigrant landscape.

This weekend NWFF are sowing the following movies:

The Letter: An American Town & the “Somali Invasion”
Being Osama
Brothers and Others
Unconstitutional

Tropical Malady @ NWFF

This Friday, Aug 19 any and all members can come see the gorgeous Thai film Tropical Malady for free. Zero charge for one of the most bracing new films from a rapidly-rising star in both the film and art worlds, Apichatpong “Joe” Weerasethakul. His film is a visually-stunning mix of, as he says, “Thai folklore, tv soap operas and Andy Warhol” that tells a story of love in the jungle between a shy country boy and the soldier who’s just as young and just as inexperienced...and then it takes a dark, utterly mysterious turn.

Aug 19-25
Daily at 7 & 9:15pm
Tropical Malady
FREE TO MEMBERS FRIDAY, AUG 19!!!
A gorgeous, lyrical film from Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul. After receiving raves from the New York Times, Film Comment, Artforum, the Village Voice, Cahiers du Cinema (who named it the best film of the year), Cineaste, Reverse Shot, IndieWire, Senses of Cinema, the filmmaker is not only being hailed the new master of Asian cinema but is a rising international art star thanks to his films and his prolific video work.

how it's done! Don't miss Carlotta's first time!

else without them approving it before they take the mike - it could be

"Inner Spaces" @ See Sound Lounge

To all my artistic friends and contacts, I would like
you to invite you to a party hosted by Seattleart.org
and AIF (The arts Industry Forum). It should be a
great time, and I will be previewing my new dvd
"Underground Art Scene" in the background of the
party (including art and music videos and emerging
artist slideshows). Hope you all can make it. If
not, be sure to visit my highspeed site,

Seattleart.org and Arts Industry Forum presents
“Inner Spaces,” paintings by: Kristen Cochran

When: Wed Aug, 24th

Where:
Artist Reception and opening at
See Sound Lounge
115 Blanchard Street

With characteristic depth and whimsy, Kristen
Cochran’s, "Inner Spaces", utilizes bold, glowing
colors, playful brush strokes and spacey shapes
that allude to the physical, emotional, and spiritual
"inner spaces" that we all--as humans--possess. These
expressive abstracts possess a unique aesthetic that
is both graphic and organic in nature. It is a body
of work that is emotional, intuitive and
revelatory: suggesting universal truths and human
experiences, which we know, but cannot name. Pain,
doubt, and melancholy meet hope, wonder, and joy on
the multi-layered surfaces of these intriguing
canvases.

AIF and seattleart.org are hosting a monthly arts
industry party. For one night we will show case new
work by an up and coming artist; as well create an
atmosphere in which the conversation of new ideas can
grow internally with the creative culture that is
Seattle.

Artist reception will begin at 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM in
which Kristen Cochran will be available to discuss her
work. At this time See Sound Lounge will provide
complimentary appetizers and an atmosphere that
inspires conversation and ideas.

The Decks will then be graced by DJ’s:

Beatrice
Brandy Westmore
Erin O’Connor
Hyasynth

Enjoy drinks and dancing the rest of the night to the
rhythmic sounds of this all female line up.

Cheers!

Surround set at Seattle Art Museum

Hello,

Please join me and David Miles Huber as we throw soundwaves around the Seattle Art Museum on Aug. 25th, 5:30-730PM.

Staring with a DJ set, I will be followed by local electronic musician David Miles Huber (aka 5one) , who will play a quadraphonic set of ambient, soothing soundscapes.

Following Dave, I will play a quad set of electronic freakiness until 7:30 PM.

Hope to see you there,

With Gratitude and Love,

Who would have thought that a post in a public message board for searching a cycling companion will end up in a heated discussion about sexism, receding hairlines, Aussie pigs, Iraq, and of course 9-11?

The second half of the thread is filled with comments on how funny the thread is. I was tempted to submit my own letter of admiration.
