Living Room, There Goes the Neighborhood @ Broadway Grill

“Living Room, There Goes the Neighborhood”
On September third SuttonBeresCuller will begin their mobile Living Room tour in Fall City Washington. The tour--a mix between installation and theater--has eight scheduled stops, but watch out! This seemingly quaint little home-on-wheels has the potential to get domestic on your own front lawn.

John Sutton, Zac Culler and Ben Beres are proud to present the opening of their newest installation. There Goes the Neighborhood is a continuation of an ongoing series of mobile environments. The piece itself will look like a display model/cross section of a family living room with performers occupying the space, interacting with people passing by. The installation will include couches, TV dinners, a fireplace, and other accoutrements of Middle America. This project will be voyeurism, reality TV, and performance art all rolled into one. The tour--a mix between installation and theater--has eight scheduled stops, but watch out! This seemingly quaint little home-on-wheels has the potential to get domestic on your own front lawn.

Seattle Phonographers Union @ Sand Point

Building 27 at Sand Point, Magnuson Park (see below for directions - it's easy to find).

The Seattle Phonographers Union improvises live with unprocessed field recordings made around the world and right here in local streets, pastures, and forests.

The SPU “...goes a step further by layering their recorded memories: they let the sounds speak for themselves, listening to see what the juxtapositions suggest. Like strangers being introduced at a gathering, the displaced sound-worlds meet. Familiar sounds mingle with unfamiliar sounds and enjoy each other's company.” (Gino Robair)

Following up on their performance at “In Resonance” at Bumbershoot, the SPU will swap their typical intimate performance setting for the vast reverberant environment of one of the warehouse sized structures at Sand Point Magnuson Park. (Bldg #27, see directions below) in order to juxtapose their improvisational technique with natural processing of a large space.

There is no seating at this performance; listeners will be free to come and go, their echoing footsteps another component of the sonic environment. Bring a cushion and/ or a blanket.

=== More about the Seattle Phonographers Union ===

Armed with CD players, MiniDisc decks, and laptops, performances take place in real time. We improvise collectively with no pre-planning. We trust our ears to listen to ourselves and each other. Rather than subject our recordings to all sorts of fancy digital processing, we keep the sounds as we (and our microphones) heard them. By fashioning immediate juxtapositions, gradual contrasts, and subtle layering, we hope to lead listeners into new ways of hearing.

The SPU features an all-star cast of noted Seattle-based artists including Steve Barsotti, Mark Griswold, Doug Haire, Dale Lloyd, Perri Lynch, Rob Millis, Toby Paddock, Steve Peters, and Jonathan Way.

Filastine @ LoFi

hello

I'm playing this friday, got the back room of LoFi (good sound, space
for dancing). It's the ever-tasteful Michito's night, International
Airport. Joe Mojo will be spinning old Brazilian soul records in the
front lounge, we train capoeira together so this is especially nice.
Brent Arnold will be playing live cello in parts of my set. Also a
few new tracks in the mix that i'm just finishing at the moment. This
is it for awhile, I'm going to asia.

besitos,
g

Here are more details:

Filastine mashes up transnational hiphop, raggacore, and grime, and
laces the results with live percussion. Some call this Live PA, but
it's more rooted in a sound system tradition. Not inane repetitive
dance music, nor shoe-gazing laptop glitch bullshit, but something
completely different. Residents of the Northwest might know Filastine
from prior projects ¡tchkung! and the Infernal Noise Brigade. This is
his only advertised performance in Seattle this fall.

In 2005 Filastine has been occupied touring in the UK, Germany,
Iceland, Japan, Argentina, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Brazil,
and the United States. He will return to Asia this October with dates
in Korea and Japan. Upcoming releases include a 12" on Tigerbeat6
subsidiary Shockout (late '05) and a full length CD on DJ/Rupture's
Soot Records (Jan '06).

SHAMELESS & GOODBEAT: Decibel Festival Afterparty

SHAMELESS & GOODBEAT present the official Decibel Festival Afterparty - Friday, Sept 23rd.

Calling all troops! After throwing last years memorable Decibel Festival afterparties, Shameless returns with reunions from across the country. This year Astralwerks recording artist Freaky Chakra has been invited back to perform a live PA. Although many might be familiar with him over the past 12 years through collaborations with Single Cell Orchestra, recently a track of his appeared on Sasha's Global Underground release. Also, local Robo.Trash favorite Samuel Kirkland is "back with a new mix and the same bad attitude". He'll be making his first Seattle performance in over a year after leaving for NYC. Shameless residents Recess , Justin Byrnes, MC Anton Bomb, and FOC:EYE (VJ, LA) round out the bill in the main room. In addition, we're excited to have Goodbeat Productions sponsoring the side room with DJs Detonate, Sonny Chiba, Jisaan, RiceCube, Palmer & Pooka, and Jizosh. Come get your game on!

Capital Hill location TBA a few days before the show. Check http://www.dbfestival.com and http://www.simplyshameless.com for updates & more info.

Starts just before the bars close.

DjML @ Krakt (Decibel)

Seattle has joined other great cities around the globe in having a
kick-ass Electronic Music Festival.
Barcelona has Sonar, Montreal has Mutek and Miami has Winter Music
Conference. . .we we now have Decibel.

I'll be spinning at Krakt, the Official Decibel Afterhours on Sat.
Sept, 24th, 1410 14th Ave. (across from Chop Suey).

A brief description of Krakt:

Decibel has foolishly given Krakt - Seatte's fast-becoming-
infamous Techno monthly - another opportunity to live out it's
mantra: We will not stop until you're bleeding dance music all over
the pavement. With two rooms of Techno and Tech-House, any goal of
not sleeping will be easily realized. Find the funkier, grittier,
grimier sides of Techno and Tech-House in room two with Camea, DjML,

Noah Pred and Tim Xavier, while in the main room Jerry Abstract,
Kristina Childs, Paul Edwards, and Kris Moon will be pounding out the
Techno With Teeth. Whether you like it minimal and funky or rough and
tumble, be careful; Krakt has been known to devour the weak.

DjML page on the Decibel Website:
http://www.dbfestival.com/2005/?q=node/291

Decibel features many venues with a collection of events and panel
discussion and workshops:

Broadway Performance Hall
Clinics, panels, Experimental and Ambient Showcases
1625 Broadway Ave.

DjML (Lick My Grooves - SEA) DjML started in the electronic music
realm as a composer/producer/musician. After attending Burning Man
he was inspired to expand his horizons and started spinning vinyl as

well. Finding his voice in the underground dance scene, DjML has
been a Seattle staple at Burning Man events, as well as warehouse
parties, house parties and local clubs such as Marcus', where he held
residency for almost 2 years. DjML has crafted an eclectic and
progressive European sound with a mix of House, Techno, Trance and
Break Beats. His mixes have an epic quality that always excite and
inspire. DjML has played the West Coast from Vancouver to
California.

Krakt, the Official Decibel Afterhours on Sat.

Stockstock Film Festival @ SAM

Matt writes:

Don:
Here's a film festival that I've participated in for the past 2 years that I'd like to recommend...
From one of the producers of the festival:

Hello, everyone! I wanted to let you know that the screening for this year's Stockstock Film Festival is next Sunday, September 25.

For those who don't know, Stockstock is a film festival I produce with some friends. We select about 35 minutes of footage from old industrial films, educational films, and commercials. We send this footage to festival entrants, and they have to make a short film using only the footage we provide. The results are cool, bizarre, and always interesting.

We pick about 25 of the films we receive and show them at a screening at the Seattle Art Museum. The screening is next Sunday, and I'd love for a ton of people to be there.

Here are the details:

What: Stockstock Film Festival Screening
When: Sunday, September 25th, 6:30 PM
Where: Seattle Art Museum - Downtown Seattle, corner of 1st and University
How (Much): Tickets cost $7 and are available at the door.

THE RABBITS OF KARAOKE @ Mirabeau Room

Seattle School's first commercially released DVD filmed before a live audience
featuring Sierra Nelson of The Typing Explosion and Vis-à-Vis Society

Seattle, WA - Seattle School - the creators and producers of IRON COMPOSER and THE POP SMEAR TEST - are proud to present THE RABBITS OF KARAOKE, an evening of vocal compositions and physical feats that expound upon the untapped resources of the public karaoke format. Utilizing 4 mics, 4 vocalists, one karaoke video screen, and two rabbits, THE RABBITS OF KARAOKE meets the awkward pain of the proletariat songform head-on in an attempt to put the "ra" back in "karaoke".

THE RABBITS OF KARAOKE will be filmed before a live audience at The Mirabeau Room (529 Queen Anne Ave N) for Seattle School's first official DVD release. Seattle School is honored to have Sierra Nelson of The Typing Explosion and Vis-à-Vis Society join them for this special one-off performance. Sierra will perform alongside Seattle School regulars Mike Min, Korby Sears, and Cheryl Serio.

Compositions include the debut of several new pieces as well as classic Seattle School works, such as:

EMPTY ORCHESTRA - a karaoke deconstruction for four vocalists
STUDY FOR AIR GUITAR - an instrumental etude performed in public
RELAY - a vocal sporting event and calculus equation made flesh
LOVE SONG RED ROVER - a karaoke disconnect for one exuberant female and one despondent male
SHUT UP RABBIT - an anger vent for one vocalist and one mammalian patsy
CHERYL SINGS THE PHONE BOOK - a musical de-hedging of an idiomatic phrase
SHUT UP KOREAN - an anger vent for one vocalist and one mammalian patsy
COMPETITION AND DISTRACTION - for 3 simultaneous karaoke singers and 1 pain inducer
COCKBLOCKER - for one male vocalist

Seattle School was established in 2002 as a performance group interested in exploring sound and music, primarily in terms of spatial relations, memory, deep time / wide incidence, calculus, communication / notation, failure, physicality, and inquiries into the definitions of tone, language, and audience. Influences include the Futurists, Dada, Earle Brown, Fluxus, Aktionists, Yoko Ono, Irritart, John Cage, Abbie Hoffman, Buster Keaton, Harry Partch, Alvin Lucier, Andy Kaufman, video game audio implementation, and No Wave.

The roster of participants changes per performance, depending on the orchestration of individual pieces.

The composers currently reside and work in Seattle and have created innumerable and critically lauded works for film, theatre, radio, TV, and interactive media. Seattle School was the recipient of a Stranger Genius Award in 2004 and a Seattle Weekly Music Award in 2005. Their popular monthly songwriting competition IRON COMPOSER is currently in development for a nationally broadcast television series.
