This week is not too bad either. I have some Mardi Gras parties for you and the Vera Project Grand Opening. My favorite is probably "A Clockwork Orange: REMIXED", because I like the idea of adding live DVD commentary to the show.

DJ dAb @ C.H.A.C.'s Lower Level

Daniel writes:

One of my favorite local DJs is coming up to Seattle to throw down at
Electric Avenue (C.H.A.C.'s Lower Level) this Friday. If I recall correctly
he started DJing out at roller skating rinks in the 80s. Anybody remember
'shoot the duck'? Anyway, his name's DJ dAb and he'll be throwing down at
Electric Avenue this Friday night. It's an Acid Night. I'm opening with some
old and new and the mystic minded Manos is closing out the night.

It's ACID all night long. For Free.

A Clockwork Orange: REMIXED - DVD Commentary

February 18, Sunday 4 PM, DVD Commentary - see REMIXED again, or for the first time, but now with 4 of the creators sitting in the back with a microphone babbling on top of all the action, regaling you with trivial details about the making of REMIXED, long held grudges, embarrasing sexual insecurities, fabulous confit recipes, and conservative newspapers.

February 22, 23, & 24, Closing Weekend - last chance to see the show (literally, forever. This show is designed as ephemera, and cannot be re-mounted without categorical reenvisioning. For realsies.) The American Cirrhosis Society has threatened to put the kaibosh on our closing night party, but we'll fight! Calling our livers "fat" is weightist and malicious. Join the cast and crew and our plus-sized livers as we transcend the malicious thinking into delicious drinking. There may even be ... wavy Lays.

Vera Project Grand Opening

Dave Meinert writes:

Hey all - the new Vera project is opening Feb 20. This is a great day for the Seattle music community and really the city at large too. Vera is one of the programs that make Seattle great and unique and is the result of years of hard work from so many people in all parts of the community. The venue is awesome and I'd love to have you come see it. This will be the best small live music room in the city, and one of the best youth programs. Hope you can make it, the new space is really amazing!

You are ecstatically invited to:
Vera Project Grand Opening

A series of events to celebrate the opening of a new venue that wouldn’t be possible without your help.

Tuesday February 20th :: Ribbon Cutting 3pm

For all shows doors open at 7:30pm and are FREE
Friday, February 23rd :: Common Market, Grayskul, Youth Movement Records, Khingz
SaturdayFebruary 24th :: These Arms Are Snakes, Akimbo, Elphaba, Talbot Tagora, Panther
Sunday, February 25th :: Mt Eerie, Holy Ghost Revival, Tiny Vipers, Ghost to Falco, Yacht

On Tuesday, February 20th, the locally renowned Vera Project will officially open the doors of its new home in Seattle Center to folks all over the Seattle area. After almost a year of acting as makeshift music venue, the always all-ages club will host a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by three concerts over the following weekend. As a thank you to the community that helped build Vera’s new location, every single one of the opening week events will be completely FREE!

Kicking off the festivities will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 20th at 3 PM sharp, complete with food, refreshments, and the Mayor of Seattle. In addition to Mr. Greg Nickels, Vera’s faithful supporters will also surely be in attendance – community members young and old who are excited about the possibilities this new facility brings to the Seattle music scene. Fortunately, the party doesn’t stop here. Planned are three consecutive shows in the new space, a sort of “breaking in” of the new venue for the many acts to follow.

The first night, Friday February 23rd, will be a massive hip-hop showcase. Hometown heroes Common Market will headline a solid line-up, including Grayskul, and Bay Area sister organization, Oakland’s own volunteer-powered Youth Movement Records. Saturday night will see the house brought down by These Arms are Snakes and Akimbo, and Sunday brings the celebration to a close with familiar faces such as Mt. Eerie, Holy Ghost Revival, and Tiny Vipers. While such amazing weekends are commonplace at the Vera, it is not often that so many great artists are featured free of charge. Such magic could only happen at the Vera Project.

So why all the hoopla? Well, the Vera certainly has a lot to be excited about. The new location, situated on the corner of Warren Avenue North and Republican Street at Seattle Center, has potential that previous sites never had. Besides a vastly improved silkscreen studio and an expanded art gallery, Vera will also have tools such as a fully equipped recording studio for educational and public use. However, while Vera has come a long way in terms of its physical presence, it has retained its dogged earnestness in educating and entertaining the youth in Seattle that walk through its doors. Opening weekend is the perfect chance to witness how far Vera has come in its six years and what the future holds.
