Husky Deli Open House in West Seattle

John writes in his party/show update letter he sends out every week:

The Husky Deli in West Seattle is having their yearly
open house. Free samples of some really cool imported stuff that you
won't find anywhere else, along with good sale prices. This store has been
in the same family for about 60 years and this is the home of "dollar
mint" ice cream. If you go there, ask for the story of how Dollar Mint
got it's name... it's pretty funny. Starts at 5:00PM, goes till 9:00PM

I have no idea where that shop is. But I am sure you can google it up.

Raku @ Fremont Art Walk

Sometimes it seems Seattle's definition of art is close to what is not even considered craft in other cities. This one is coming straight from the painted flowerpot department. Don't get fooled by "Japanese tradition" and "spiritual". This is not Marion Peck (art), this is Michael Peck (craft):

December 2nd should prove to be a great show for the Fremont 1st Friday
Art Walk! Michael Peck will be demonstrating the art of RAKU, the anchient
Japanese tradition of fire and art. Please come and view this exceptional
art practice.

Ceramics, Sculpture & Remembrance
Michael Peck presents his first solo exhibition in years, celebrating the
memory and history of things past. His works take an aesthetic and
spiritual look at pottery, including his “Remembrance Pots,” which embody
the passing of two dear friends – Dieter Nowak (artist/designer/jeweler and
long time friend) and Sissy, Peck’s big white companion dog of 15 years.
Complimenting Peck’s works are pieces by Wally Bivens, Nana Kuo, Jim Stout and Neal Sofian. December 2nd, 6-9 P.M see an exciting demonstration of
Raku, the ancient Japanese tradition of fire and art. Main exhibition will
continue through the months of December and January.

A(n Improvised) Christmas Carol @ Pike Place Market Theatre

Fred writes:

Hey,

Here’s holiday good fun: The audience helps re-write Dickens: what’s Scrooge’s occupation? What is Tiny Tim dying of? Does Scrooge change at the end? You decide! Brought to you by the same folks who’ve been doing TheatreSports comedy improv for 22 years.

Thanks!!

Cleo from 5 to 7 @ Kozy Kino

My friend’s father, Harold Darling, recalls seeing this film upon it’s release in 1962… ‘Oh that’s the film where you get to follow a beautiful French woman around Paris for two hours!’ Indeed, but there’s quite a bit more to it than that.

Yes! This is a perfectly executed visionary experience by French New Wave WonderWoman, Agnès Varda.

It begins with a forboding Tarot reading which shadows the next two hours of a beautiful French singer’s life as she quickly transforms imperceptibly from whimsicle, foxy nymph to fateful, aged but knowed diva. And all within the most beautiful sequences of Parisian reality… in which passersby factor in fleetingly but have no insight into her inner turmoil. I bet you a dollar (the price of admission) that you’re thrilled at least 3 times by Agnes Varda’s amazing photographic genius.

Drink Special – for once, something delicate but monochromatic is in order. As usual, let the expert Adjusters determine just what that means when it comes to the delicate science of cinematic mixology.

The Kozy Kino is an underground cinema that infuses diverse film programming with thematic beverage service. Programming is, as yet, still irregular but, as oft is possible, we will throw down the homemade cushions, fire up the video beamer and concoct delicious refreshments to wash down the freshly popped
corn. Each featured film is a ‘wonder of cinema’… coupled with shorts and inspirational drink specials.

It’s a cheap night of uninstitutionalized quality entertainment and a fine example of underground economy.

IMPORTANT!!!
Please take notice of the location change (listed at top). The original space has been ruthlessly gutted by the greedy cokehead landlord. So it is now a repertory thing, and we are very excited and grateful to be
hosted by the Perfect Room… an ideal locale. It’s still an intimate experience (read: seating is limited), but it’s the sort of thing that this town needs more of (e.g. the speakeasy, the peoples’ kitchen, the Sunday sermon, the peoples' underground surgical theater, etc.). Help breathe some life into this 'theme park of a city' now and start your own!

questions? contact: inphaseprod@yahoo.com
and oh yeah, Kino means cinema in German, Russian, etc. ... so please don't write me asking!

Entrance – $1 - one U.S. dollar.

I Heart Rummage turns FOUR @ Crocodile Café

Seattle's premier artist and designer showcase enters its fourth year
this December 4th. There will also be a second event this December 18th.

With IHR's fourth year there's also going to be a major change. Matthew
Parker one of the co-curators for the last three years is retiring from the event to pursue other projects. His experience with IHR has brought him a lot of great opportunities and still loves the event but his energies are soon to be focused in other directions. I Heart Rummage is currently in the process of co-opting help from some new organizers, as of yet to be named. A statement will be made when word is official.

Who & What: I Heart Rummage
Where: 2200 2nd Ave. Crocodile Café
When: December 4th and 18th 12-4PM

I Heart Rummage Background:

I Heart Rummage is a network of Seattle Artists whose primary focus is
Useful Art and fashion. At our December events you'll find at least 50 artists and designers presenting the latest in Style and Art from around Seattle.

I Heart Rummage was brought into fruition by a woman named Gia Bahm at
Nation/I-Spy in November 2001 and was taken over and expanded by Sam Trout and Matthew Parker just one year after it's birth. After Nation/I-Spy closed its doors in January 2002 I Heart Rummage was able to move to it's bigger and better home at the Crocodile Cafe in Belltown.

IHR showcases work from vendors with all levels of experience and is
open to anybody with the drive to create something new and unique. I Heart Rummage is currated so we encourage potential vendors to come check us out to see if their work fits within our style.

Quite a few designers who sell their goods at Seattle stores like
Bluebottle Gallery and Store, Synapse 206 and Pretty Parlor got their start at I Heart Rummage. Some of our vendors have even opened their own stores including: Schmancy, Agent X, Velouria, and Twenty/20.

Come down and get a handful of Seattle's newest and hottest designs and
you can say you got it before it was in the stores.

Benji B (BBC 1Xtra - UK)
Steve Spacek (Sound In Color - Live PA - UK)
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 7th
The War Room 722 E. Pike St.

||| Former producer of Gilles Peterson's WORLDWIDE Radioshow, BENJI B
makes his West Coast debut appearance |||

||| STEVE SPACEK performs live in support of his brilliant new release
SPACE SHIFT on SOUND IN COLOR |||

Benji B is a highly influential underground DJ. He presents his
"Deviation" radio show on the BBC's 1xtra every Thursday night, and has
developed a reputation over the last 9 years as a skilled DJ, important
musical tastemaker and award-winning radio producer and presenter.
Known to many as the "Deejay's DJ", and for playing the tunes first
that eventually end up in the boxes of the big names, he is about to
show discerning clubbers the world over that it's not just the industry
insiders who deserve to witness his talents. Benji is still only 25
years old.

Starting a new programme with Gilles called "Worldwide", Benji produced
the show live at Kiss FM for 2 years. By the time he finished school he
was already working on the radio all weekend, clubbing it all night,
DJing once a week and studying in the daytime. He was immediately
poached by Somethin' Else productions, where he set up an international
syndication for the programme, broadcast at first in Finland and
France, eventually providing the 2-hour weekly show to seventeen
countries worldwide.

"Spacek is the Radiohead of Soul" - Style magazine

Steve Spacek, the acclaimed voice behind the groundbreaking
genre-pushing group Spacek, who were championed by everyone from
Entertainment Weekly to Mos Def, presents his debut solo album with
Sound In Color. It's his great American album, produced largely in Los
Angeles. Old partner Morgan from Spacek provided a few beats (check
second single "3 Hours of Fun") and J Dilla produced the monster
?'Dollar', but the bulk of the beats were created by Steve. The
legendary song writer Leon Ware also makes a guest appearance in the
brilliant duet ?'Smoke?'. Future soul just got way sexier. This will be
Spacek's first live performance in Seattle.
