TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM @ NWFF

NWFF presents TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM this coming Friday, Jan 19 and Saturday, Jan 20 at 7pm each night. What makes this show particularly exciting is that one of our favorite groups, Aono Jikken Ensemble, will be performing a live score for the film. Their music combines traditional Asian, western, and world instruments, found objects, sound toys, and specially created sound devices made of metal, bamboo, kelp and other materials.

In the tradition of silent Japanese cinema the performance will also feature benshi narration by Naho Shioya. Into the 1930's, benshi provided live narration and commentary as films played. This is a rare opprortunity to witness firsthand this nearly- lost cinematic tradition.

NWFF has had a long history with the Aono Jikken Ensemble and we're particulary please to collaborate with them again with TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM. Tickets are going fast. Click on this link - http:// www.brownpapertickets.com/event/8775 - to buy tickets for this one-of-a-kind performance.

TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM

The lost art of the benshi is revived in the Aono Jikken Ensemble's live accompaniment of TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM, Kalzo Hayashi's stylish homage to Japanese silent cinema. By turns clever, funny, poetic, mysterious and ultimately quite moving, TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM features an aging actress searching for her kidnapped daughter. It's up to the heroic detective and his trusty comic assistant to rescue this damsel in distress. Off they go, tracking down leads and sniffing out clues. Join us for this unique live cinema experience and for a rarely screened and almost forgotten gem of the sound era.

Mythogolical Faeries Alive and Well Meetup in Auburn

This one is just so strange that I have to add it to week's list. Seattle Spin writes:

Meetup: Mythogolical Faeries Alive and Well Meetup , Jan 21st, $10 suggested donation. Well, you really need to be a fairy, at least metaphorically, to make this one. One could think stereotypically that this gathering would be attended by a bunch of candy-asses, but they could beat you with their magic wands in retaliation.

I don't expect any of our readers to attend this meeting. But if there are any Faeries reads the Party Volcano and decides to go I want to get a Cold Lava Report (I also accept fake Cold Lava Reports from disturbed readers that pretend they went as long as they are funny!

2007 in Auburn: YOU ARE INVITED: To meet-up during this enchanted evening with Fey-folk (including all half-Faeries, reincarnated Faeries, Faeries “in spirit," & mere-humans who are Faerie enthusiasts). Come meet other locals interested in the same! All Faerie collectors, believers (& followers) are welcome!

o This light-hearted, casually dressed/intellectually organized gathering is not just for those with Amy Brown and Myrea Pettit Faerie art cluttering their homes.
o We'll share an abundance of Faerie facts, Faerie folklore, Faerie names, Faerie games and all things Faerie.
o If you suffer “gentle madness” for your Faerie beliefs: JOIN US!
o Explore new ways to honor the Fey, e.g., make Faerie altars in your home & garden!
o Share a Faerie potion (seasonal drink) & swap Faerie poetry/stories!
o We will host Faerie art contests!
o Examine spooky as well as innocent Faerie personalities
o Come for socializing, laughing, sitting on a “toad-stool.”

There are no times or rules, just and open environment for exploration; all types of performance welcome**.

**No nudity. Fire permit required for all fire performers. All performers must sign a waiver.

No nudity allowed? What kind of Zen Circus is that? I guess you won't see any naked fire performers without fire permits. Honestly I didn't know that fire performers are still around. I am glad they need a fire permit. Actually I think they also need a taste permit.
