Events for 3/4 to 3/10/2005

I added a lot of music related events this week thanks to PV’s restless music reporter Hastro Gould has, who has provided comments and information for the following events: ELECTRICITY II, MUSIC MATTERS WEEKEND, Blood Brothers, Futureheads, Kasabian, Bob Dylan, Modest Mouse, Low Life, 19 Rainstorms.

Let me know if it’s too much.

My favorite this week is actually a generous invitation to a private party for next weekend: the famous Kitesurf Feuerzangenbowle party (see Future Lava for more details).

But I also like "How to Be a Bitch 101" and Ursula 1000.

How to Be a Bitch 101 (3/4 – 3/20)

This is for "Girls and Guys With Automatic Nice Syndrome":

Automatic Nice Syndrome is a condition where the person being
"nice" is actually not being nice at all- not to him or herself
because what is actually happening is most often, an
unconscious automatic reaction to a situation versus responding
in a healthy manner. Often, the sufferer isn't even being "nice" to
the others involved either because it is dishonest; it is not how
he or she actually feels, and/or wants to be doing, which can lead
to general dishonesty, resentment and even sickness.

Certainly there is a place for niceness in the world but it is not
the spectrum of human emotion, and there are even times when
it is best to be righteous.

Check yourself:

Do you find yourself saying yes when you mean no?
Are you overextending yourself to others? Are you nice when you don't
want to be? Do you smile when you really want to say "fuck off"?
Are you really doing what you want with your life?

Perhaps it's time to take a How to Be a Bitch 101 workshop.
Register today to reserve your space- Class sizes are extremely limited

There are 6 workshops in Seattle in March and some in NYC in May. Check out her website for more details.

The Music, Kasabian @ Neumos

Hastro Gould writes:

The Music must be the worst band name ever. Could n't they spend 5 min to
come up with a name better than that? Kasabian were heavily promoted on NME,
locally KEXP and 107.7 the End I think. I have n't really listened to
them. If you really wanna checkout music on a Monday but can't pay to go see
Bob Dylan at Paramount this may be your cup o' tea.

Modest Mouse

Low Life @ Viceroy

Hastro Gould writes:

There seems to be a revival of brit pop, new wave, indie rock Dj scene in
Seattle after a lull of couple of years. The other one being the Members
Only/Wire parties at Baltic on Wed. Of course the one at Lava lounge ( DJ EZ
Action spinning is it??? ) has been going on for years now. What night is
that at Lava Lounge? Anyone?

Rainstorms @ Western Bridge

Hastro Gould writes:

I have always liked the art/exhibits at Western Bridge. I believe this one
will be good too.

This spring, Western Bridge presents an experiment in catharsis. The
exhibition is composed entirely of work involving rain. By matching our
interior to the prevailing conditions outside, we hope to purge melancholy
through aesthetic responses to our springtime weather.

Natalie K. St.Martin @ Retail Therapy

Natalie writes :

I am going to France this April. For the whole month. To Paris and Brittany to visit an extensive French family, to practice the language and study sculpture and framing. This show is in anticipation of this first trip to a country I have many connections with, not the least of which is my heritage and name; I have studied the history and art, the language and culture of France since early high school. The work displayed in this show was created between 1997 and 2004 – I made most of the pieces for my children’s book illustration portfolio, to demonstrate my style and range of subjects. For this show, I have chosen paintings and prints that are in some way French, whether in color scheme, fashion or reference. A favorite cat, named Bijou for his jewel-like blue eyes, appears in numerous pieces, and two paintings are after portraits by one of my favorite French artists, Ingres. Some of my other influences include the illustrator Edmund Dulac, Degas, Toulouse Lautrec, and! Manet, as well as French fashion illustrations. My current work is going in a new direction, larger, more layered and metaphorical; yet I will always love watercolors, paper, the process of drawing and printing…'the combination of ultramarine blue, taupe, pale gold, rose, cherry red, and dark chocolate brown. I believe that my time spent in France this spring will influence my work in important ways; I look forward to the exploration, the whole experience!

Wine and snacks will be provided as usal and of course all are welcome. I will go!

Kitesurf Feuerzangenbowle ( Sat 3/12/2005)

I am excited about this one. I am actually allowed to write about a private party! Thanks!

hiya PV

I think some of you remember our last throw down with flaming sugar cones
and swaying outdoor screens in the breeze...

The last party was well attended by old school PV'ers, so they are welcome
to join us again. Since I don't have everyone's email address anymore, you
can announce the Kitesurf Feuerzangenbowle on PV if you like.

However, if you do announce it, I would ask you not publish the party
address directly to the PV list, but tell folks wishing to attend to contact
advancekitesurfer@hotmail.com to be put on the evite and guest list.... This
will allow me to keep attendance to folks we know, relatively speaking, so
the party does not get totally out of hand.

Although, there is the outside chance this could be a total rager and that
nothing can stop that.

Oh well, let there be lava!

Here are the details:

It is time to brew the pyric drink in offering to the gods of air and water.
This is a BYOM (but not BM) party, bring your own mug (seriously)...

Please join us for the Kitesurf Feuerzangenbowle and a five-year (2000-2005)
digital video and photography retrospective of some epic kite and
windsurfing footage in the Pacific Northwest.

RSVP required to get on the guest list. This is a small private venue and
party for invited guests, athletes and acquaintances of the host.

Fashion cops on duty: Semi-formal, neo-sensualist attire and/or 5/3mm wet
suits, no fleece.

Featuring:

* Photo & videography show of Northwest kite and windsurfing @ 8pm on the
outdoor screen
* Cuban cabaret upstairs
* Cocktails by the Space Virgin Light Continuum
* DJ Floorm@ throwin down in de basement
* Feuerzangenbowle at 9 and 11pm

See you Saturday March 12th!

Kite and windsurfing video and photography footage produced by
www.Railgrab.com, Adam S. Finer Productions, Advance Kitesurf
Productions, Adrenaline Boardsports, JP Kiteboards and other contributing NW
photographers and kiteboarders.

RSVP: advancekitesurfer@hotmail.com

Don Volcano’s Computer Corner

Everybody has heard about those weirdos, who sell ghosts in jam glasses or offer pieces of their skin for tattoo ads. Those are boring in comparison to what you can find at whowouldbuythat.com . What about a Sheriff Armadillo With Hat & Gun Taxidermy for only $99? Or a Door Bell Mini Deer Butt for $56?

This is one of my absolute favorite websites and it should have a special place in everybody’s bookmark folder:

Who Would Buy That?
http://www.whowouldbuythat.com/

It doesn't take very long to find the good stuff. This week seems to focus on wild life and taxidermy items:

Armadillo With Hat & Gun Taxidermy Weird -Sheriff Dillo ($99.95)

Anatomically Correct Fertility Love Carrot $1.25)

Door Bell Mini Deer Butt ($56.00 )
