Trashy-Elegant Christmas-Lounge Cocktail Party

"Trashy-Elegant Christmas-Lounge Cocktail Party"

***RC's Disclaimer*** Generally, when your humble
regionals include "fundraising" events in SA emails,
we wanna be able to tell people what the fundraiser is
for. Well, in this case the person being fund raised
for does not know they are being fundraised for. The
event description goes into detail about who/what/why
this fundraiser is happening, but we opted to leave it
out this time so as not to let the cat out of the bag.
However, if you are interested in finding the
details, please email irenicism@yahoo.com and they
will give you plenty of info.

DATE: December 15th
TIME: 7pm-ish to 1am sharp (neighbors to consider)
PLACE: 711 12th Ave E, Seattle
HOSTS: "The 711 Crew"
THEME: "Trashy-Elegant Christmas-Lounge Cocktail
Party"

*We're requesting (not suggesting) a $10-$20 donation
to attend (not taken at the door, given at the bar in
a container of some sort). It is VERY important that
if you attend, you give to the cause.

This will be held on the first floor ONLY of our house
(previous party-goers here may have experienced
otherwise). You will also have access to the full
backyard for smoking if ya need too.

There will be a stocked bar with amateur bartenders on
staff all night (be kind to them) with a variety of
concoctions at $1 each. (Yes, $1 each. Double? $1.
Triple? $1. Shaken over ice with an umbrella? $1. PBR?
$1. As usual, flirting and sarcasm will be free of
charge.)

There will be DJ's spinning electro-loungy music
throughout the evening AT A LEVEL THAT IS COMFY ENOUGH
FOR YOUR TO ENJOY AND YET STILL CHAT DRAMATICALLY WITH
YOUR FRIEND. Yes, dramatically.... this is a cocktail
party. So those of you that see "house" and "DJ" in
the same invitation and get apprehensive, don't worry
about it. It'll be "loungy". Not "ravey".

Which brings us to "attire". What do you wear!? Well,
"Trashy-Elegant Christmas Lounge-Wear" WHATEVER THAT
TRANSLATES TO YOU. Our aim is to have fun, and "put
on airs".... Lots of "Dahhhlings" and the like. Talk
about authors you know nothing about but sound like
you do. Be fake, but fun. BRING THE ATTITUDE. (Screw
that "check it at the door" shit)

Carpooling with a designated driver is recommended or
Cab-it. (We'll be SUPER happy to call one for you!)

If I've missed something here, please e-mail me back.
Bring a friend or two if you'd like. Stop by for an
hour, or stay until close... it's up to you. But
please help us raise this money. Just think... if it
was you.

Peace and Happy Holidays,
Kirby, Will, and "711".

Papa Mali @ at Nectar on Friday night

Brent writes:

Man am I stoked for the next two days of this crazy life. I got so much of my home town music around me I almost feel like I’m in the French Quarter stumbling in a drunken haze. But I’m not...at least not yet. But in spirit....

First off my buddy Stanton Moore is rocking the tractor tavern with his solo project Thursday night, and then the king of swampy kings, Papa Mali is hitting the stage at Nectar on Friday night, December 15th. Most of you know Stanton as the drummer of super funk project, Galactic. Papa Mali might be a new discovery for you however. "PAPA MALI" is a salute to his home territory of north Louisiana. Malcolm was born in Mississippi and raised in Shreveport, where absorbing the blues along Bayou Pierre was just as much a matter of course as chasing the mosquito fogging truck with friends -- and equally intoxicating. He spent his summers with grandparents in New Orleans digging that city's rhythm (and blues) and after hearing the Wild Tchoupitoulas and the Meters on the streets of New Orleans at age eleven, he developed an early and ongoing attachment to Crescent City funk. It was Burning Spear's band that gave Malcolm the nickname "Papa Mali" years ago while touring with Spear and the Killer Bees.

Although Papa Mali is a solo artist he can also be seen collaborating with some of the most respected musicians on the scene today, including his longtime drummer extraordinaire Robb Kidd, Cyril Neville, Galactic, MOFRO, Robert Walter, Otis Taylor, George Porter Jr, Johnny Vidacovich, Anders Osborne, Jesse Mae Hemphill, Kevin Russell, and Double Trouble. Papa Mali's long awaited second album, slated for release this year, will feature Big Chief Monk Boudreaux of the Golden Eagles, Henry Butler, Kirk Joseph, Victoria Williams and Chuck Prophet. This show is going to be sick y’all. Don’t miss it...I mean IT!

Brent

Here are more details:

CARTOONISTS PETER BAGGE AND ELLEN FORNEY ENTERTAIN AT THE NEW
FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKSTORE & GALLERY IN GEORGETOWN ON DECEMBER 16.

Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is pleased to host a multimedia
event featuring two of the nation’s most accomplished cartoonists –
Peter Bagge and Ellen Forney. This free event will take place on
Saturday, December 16 at 6:00 PM at 1201 S. Vale Street (at Airport
Way) in Seattle’s lively Georgetown district.

Peter Bagge is among the most significant alternative cartoonists in
the field. After relocating to Seattle from New Jersey in the 1980s,
Bagge began his remarkable comic book series “Hate.” This chronicle
of lovable loser Buddy Bradley and his hapless pals remains a concise
and poignant satire of the grunge movement, which focused
international attention on the provocative Northwest counterculture.
At the time of its publication, the Seattle Weekly observed, “Twenty
years from now, when people want to know what it was like to be young
in 1990s Seattle, the only record they’ll have is Peter Bagge’s
‘Hate.’” These extraordinary stories have been collected by
Fantagraphics Books in “Buddy Does Seattle,” and Bagge continues to
produce the “Hate Annual.” Bagge will screen rarely seen animated
shorts produced by Sub Pop and MTV and give cultural context to his
comics.

Ellen Forney’s recent “I Love Led Zeppelin” anthology, published by
Fantagraphics Books, has been greeted with critical acclaim by
prestigious publications including the L. A. Times, Salon, Vice,
Spin, and Pink. Her multimedia performance inspired by the comics
from the book played to capacity houses in Seattle, most recently at
Northwest Film Forum in September. With the popular title now back in
print, Forney will reprise this wildly entertaining show, which
combines cartoons, music, and stand-up comedy.

Original artwork by Peter Bagge and Ellen Forney is featured in the
current exhibition at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, “30 Years of
Misfit Lit.” The artists will be available to sign books and the
event appearance is free to the public.

Monday Movie Night (BYOP) at Alibi Room

Rob writes:

Two announcements, my friends:

1) Monday Dec 18 is last movie night of 2006. There will be no Monday Movie Night (BYOP) at Alibi Room on Dec 25 nor Jan 1. So make it on down this week any time from 6 pm on: www.seattlealibi.com/byop.htm

2) I have too many books and not enough shelf space. So, as part of absinthe pre-party I'm going to set a bunch of boks out for sale. We can talk about matters literary, sip some absinthe iced tea, and you might just come away with some dope literature for cheap. Sale will be short and sweet, 8 - 9 pm. After which you may linger till dawn.

OK, that is all. Looking forward to outer space....
