The Exorcist: The Musical @ Northwest Actors Studio

The GMP is famous for their bad taste. If they decide to recommend an event by a group called Bad Actor Productions there must be something in it for us:

Hey Guerrillas!

How are those Monsters of Rock! costumes coming along? We've heard
from a number of people who are hard at work on their outfits and
excited about tearing up the stage with their singing skills (or
lack thereof). We're looking forward to seeing new and old faces on
February 19th for a little Costumed Karaoke.

Next week, we'll have more details on where to show up. Until then,
we've got a suggested event that might help get you in the Musical
Monster mood:

Beginning this Friday, February 11th, Bad Actor Productions (Girls
Just Wanna Have Fun, Dangerous Lee Press-Ons) will begin a 4 week
run of their new 'Parody for Charity' -- "The Exorcist: The
Musical". The cast & crew includes a number of GMP regulars, as
well as a costume, several special effects, and makeup effects
designed by GMP Founder Dirty Bunny. We had the opportunity last
night to see a full dress rehearsal, and it was genuinely
hilarious. What other play boasts shirtless men, a dancing bear,
singing clergy, and a little girl urinating on stage?

We definitely recommend checking out this sexy, silly, sacrilegious
show, and helping raise money for Home Alive! in the process.

Where: Northwest Actors Studio. 1100 E. Pike - Just off E Pike on
11th Ave E, down the block from The Vogue. 206.324.6328
When: Fridays at 9pm and Saturdays at 8pm, February 11 through
March 5
How Much: $12/$10 students & seniors. A portion of the proceeds
from the production will be donated to Home Alive!.

The 2005 Pacific NW Yo-Yo Championships

Seattle Spin writes:

Competition: Yo-Yo Competition, Feb 12th, free to watch. And you thought Yo-Yos went out with hula hoops. Watch pros and amateurs strut their stuff. A fun event to watch, and actually a whole lot less geeky than a Star Trek convention. We'd compete ourselves, but our fifth grade teacher took away our yo-yo at the start of the school year back in '89, and still hasn't given it back.

Here are more details:

The Yo-Yo Always Comes Back!

Think the yo-yo went out of style? Think again! The Pacific Northwest Yo-Yo Championships will bring to light the huge community of professional and amateur yo-yo enthusiasts, allow the champs to show off their best tricks and reintroduce the yo-yo as the international sport phenomenon it is. The championships will include an age-based sport division, a judged championship division and lots of freestyling in between. All activities are free and the public is welcome.

Kodo Drummers @ Meany Theatre

Another tip from Seattle Spin:

Music: Kodo Drumers, Feb 11th - 12th, $38. Primal, but not primitive. This is high energy percussion that just puts you in a headlock and pounds your skull with musical noogies. It's one of Japan's oldest art forms, and it still inspires just as deeply today as it did way back when.

More details:

Kodo Drummers

Fri & Sat, Feb. 11 & 12, 2005 - 8pm
Sun, Feb. 13, 2005 - 2pm
single tickets: $38; subscribers: $35; ages 5-17: $20

Back by popular demand! From the moment they arrive on stage, Kodo provides audiences with a spectacle of unparalleled energy and emotional intensity. Kodo blends the pageantry and turbulence of its storm-tossed island home in the Sea of Japan. Kodo celebrates the rhythms of life with a percussion genre that requires breathtaking skill and stamina. This is taiko drumming at its purest and most primal — a truly unforgettable experience that will leave you transfixed by the sheer power of one of Japan's oldest and most revered art forms.

Meany Theatre is located on the west edge of the University of Washington campus, just minutes from the NE 45th Street exit off I-5. Limited covered parking is available for a fee underneath the theater in the Central Parking Garage located at 15th Avenue NE at 41st Street.

Last year's "My Bloody Valentine" at Shameless was a mess. Or maybe I
should
qualify that by saying, we were a mess. This year's Shameless rendition

romance,
love, blood, and B-Movie antics. DRESS TO EXPRESS!
