Seattle International Beer Festival (6/30 – 7/2)

Kris writes:

Greetings beer and animal lovers alike!

This year's Seattle International Beer Festival (SIB) will be held tomorrow Friday, June 30th - Sunday, July 2 at the Seattle Center Mural Amphitheater. It celebrates the world’s most legendary brewing styles and the nations that made them famous. Come taste over 100 world-class beers from more than 15 countries!

Your generous beer drinking at SIB in 2005 helped PET CROSS improve the lives of many furry critters in the Puget Sound area. PET CROSS is the local non-profit group who puts on SIB. SIB hosts and organizers Rick Carpenter and Tanya Weitz donate a substantial chunk of festival proceeds to their non profit group dedicated to raise awareness and promote responsible treatment of all animals.

Together, with our strong livers, we can continue to save lives and make a difference!

I'll be at the Feral Care booth Friday night. Please stop by and say 'hi!'. Great cold beer, warm sunny days/gorgeous star lit nights AND helping homeless animals, what could be better? Your canine companion is more than welcome too!

Hope to see you there!
Yours truly,
Kris :)

And come and be a part of the Yeti-costumed-and-MIDI-mad opening act PLEASEEASAUR, filming for their new Comedy Central DVD! Did we mention that Pleaseeasaur made Chairman Min laugh so much that he had to replace his white pants? Good. Cuz that story is reeeeally embarrassing.

Loves and Kisses and Dirty Dishes,

Seattle School

P.S. Read, read, read – a feature story on ADFTK and IC13 in the current issue of Seattle Weekly:

VS.

DAVE HERNANDEZ and MARTY CRANDALL of The Shins

Featuring the comedy trio of “TINKLE” as judges (DAVID CROSS, TODD BARRY, JON BENJAMIN)

And Comedy Central’s PLEASEEASAUR opening the evening
Hey - remember Pop Rocks? Smurfs? Max Headroom? The Macarena? IRON COMPOSER?

No? Then get the hell outta my hot tub, you nazi scum.

For the rest of you beautiful people, you know that since it's inception in 2004, IRON COMPOSER - the 90-minute Live Songwriting Competition, Aural Obstacle Course, Drinking Game and faux-political Revolutionary Movement - has brought joy, sorrow, ecstasy, tears, injuries, ambivalence, and suicide prevention to countless men, women, children and animals throughout Seattle.

For the past 8 months, Chairman Min (Seattle School’s MIKE MIN) has been in hibernation as he prepares to bring IRON COMPOSER to the masses via the opiating idiot box of TV. But eventually, The Chairman realized that, until his genetic engineers get the formula right, Children Are The Future IRON COMPOSERS. The Chairman has scheduled a bout to benefit the stellar Vera Project, an all-ages non-profit and venue who needs capital for their awesome new digs in Seattle Center. New talent must be groomed, and the can-do staff at Vera are doing the job like no one else. Huzzah to Vera! (Huzzah!)

On June 30th, The Chairman will grace you with a bout so sinister, both of his mothers have disowned him: IRON COMPOSER #13 - THE TRENCHMOUTH VS. THE TWO SHINS. The Main Event features comedic darling FRED ARMISEN of Saturday Night Live, Trenchmouth, and the Blue Man Group VS. indie rock darlings MARTIN CRANDALL and DAVE HERNANDEZ of The Shins.

Judging the event are the comedic ensemble of Tinkle, a smartass trio of white men who never know when to shut up or where to draw the line. Tinkle includes:

DAVID CROSS of something called Mr. Show, Arrested Development and "others"

TODD BARRY of something called Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Dr. Katz, and "others"

JON BENJAMIN of something called Crank Yankers, and "others"

And opening the evening is the Action Spectacular of PLEASEEASAUR, whose yeti-costumed MIDI mania will fill your heart with pleasure, pathos, and palpitations.

For you ostrich-types, IRON COMPOSER pits two songwriters against each other to compose a song, live in front of an audience, based on a 5 minute interview with a random audience member. While the two composers are writing their songs, they are submitted to the torment of 5 "Mystery Turmoils", nut-busting obstacles instigated by The Interloper (Seattle School's KORBY SEARS) by employing the audience in a physical melee of insurance-baiting proportions (such as the BUDDY HOLLY PAPER AIRPLANE TURMOIL or the dreaded JAY-Z JIANT JENGA TURMOIL).

However, the composers do not have direct access to the house band: they must teach their songs to the Chairman's "Aide-De-Camp" officers, who then teach the song to the house band. Along the way, the composers, the house band, IC cheerleaders, Officer O'Malley, The Interloper, the Aide-De-Camp officers, and Chairman Min must drink a shot of liquor every 9 minutes, for a total of 5 shots of alcohol in 45 minutes.

THEN - they perform their song.

Be there - or die a slow, horrible, Foucault-induced existentialist death, filmed in slo-mo and B&W by Francois Truffant.

Tiptons Sax Quartet / Little Fyodor @ Egan's Jazz House

No idea whether this is any good...

EVENT: Tiptons Sax Quartet / Little Fyodor

The Tiptons Sax Quartet are returning to Seattle after a very
successful tour of Europe and the US to promote their newest CD, Drive,
published on their own record label, Zipa!/Spoot Music. Comprised of 4
saxophonists - who sing! - and 1 drummer, the Tiptons are an all-female
ensemble which has released 7 CDs, and has been touring North America and
Europe since 1992.

Their music is a highly engaging, original melange of jazz, world beat,
soul, and mediterranean music, suitable for all ages and tastes.
Please see their website, http://www.tiptonssaxquartet.com for further
information.

'Minute precision, solid arrangements, an excellent control of
dynamics, a multi-stylized repertoire, and sparkling execution ... their unique
singing style creates shapes and timbres that move into experimental
jazz. It is truly a beautiful lesson of what is vital in jazz,
inviting... filled with radical thought that can be maintained without losing its
tenderness. Flavio Massarutto, ll Gazzettino'

The Tiptons are available for press and radio interviews.

Opening the concert will be the eccentric and humorous Little Fyodor &
Babushka, an ensemble based in Boulder, Colorado. Little Fyodor has
been part of the Church of the Subgenius for many years, and his highly
engaging performances are a delight to behold.

DATE: 6 July, 2006
PLACE: Egan's Jazz House
LOCATION: 1707 Market Street, Ballard, Seattle
TIME: 8:30pm
