Events for 5/21 to 5/27/2004

What a busy week. If I had more time I would have spiced this week's edition with two downgrades: El Ahlam on Saturday (http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/viewInvite.jsp?event=SYAEVIYWOTMKJYCSVYRB) and Mr. Moonlight on Wednesday (www.mrmoonlight.com). I also would have thrown in a Cold Lava report about a SeaTac party I went to. Not a bad party: 4 snack stars, I talked to somebody who went to school with Udai Hussein, later I was introduced to somebody who is subject of a song by The Presidents Of The United States, and Reggie Watts (www.reggiewatts.com) showed up too.

Let's don't waste more time and get started!

Carlotta's Late Night Wing Ding

I was always wondering what has happened to Shannon Kringen. She had this weird depressing show about herself on public tv. It was sad to watch her expressing her anger about not being as famous as somebody like Tori Amos, who she would consider a peer. I am glad that she has finally made it. She writes:

hello,

i want to invite you to a play i have a small part in!
this friday and sat. night may 21 and 22 @ 10:30pm i
will be a guest in "carlotta's late night wing ding"
it's a campy/comedy variety show. it's "naked night"
both nights meaning i shall do my 10 minute
performance aRt/danCe routine nude (i made a special
original audio kringMUSIC CD for this show!) and some
other case members might appear nude also...and the
audience can choose if they wanna wear clothes or not!
carlotta likes to say "i used to think naked was
nasty but goddess kring taught me naked is aRt"...

if you are willing to go 1/2 naked it's 1/2 price:
$5.00 bucks

if you are buck naked it's one buck $1.00 to get in!

full price tickets are $10.00

All Holiday Party @ Capitol Hill Arts Center

PV's CDO (Chief Discipline Officer), Andrew, is in town from Thailand to attend the All Holiday Party. He gives us a review:

I went to the first All-Holiday Party a couple of years ago and it was brilliant. It was one of the funnest parties that I have ever been to.

The idea was to run through all of the major and several of the minor holidays of the year in the course of a single evening. Silly, yes, but also oddly moving: I felt like I was packing a year's worth of life into a few hours. If you think about it, holidays are a time in which we enter into a different mental space: Thanksgiving with relatives, Valentine's Day with a sweetie, New Year's Eve celebrating with friends or trying to hook it up.

Packing every holiday you can think of into a short period of time is a way of creatively playing around with those different frames of mind. All-Holiday Party was whimsical, subtly profound, and m! ost of all, fun.

The folks hosting this event are Jen Moon and Scotto. They are Burning Man folks, but don't worry: they are not the typical, stuck-up, poseur type of Burning Men. (God, I've lost count of how many pretentious, awful Burning Man parties I have been to.) When I went to their first All-Holiday Party, they made everyone feel welcome.

At first glance the tix might appear a bit steep in price ($12 in advance, $15 at the door), but I think it will be well worth it. Plus proceeds go to an excellent web site, Erowid.org, devoted to unbiased information about psychoactive agents.

Here is the press release:

You've heard the rumors... you've smelled the candy canes, caught
yourself humming "Peter Cottontail," and felt the strange impulse to dress up like a leprechaun in public.

Now, coming this Saturday, May 22, to the Capitol Hill Arts Center in
Seattle, Washington, it's time to bring your holiday urges to life,
at...

THE ALL HOLIDAY PARTY 2004!!

Join us in celebrating 15 different holidays throughout the course of
one preposterous evening of hilarity and debauchery! Please visit our
ever-so-exciting web site for more information:

http://www.all-holiday.com

with our first holiday starting at 5:55 pm - but feel free to drop by
anytime.

All proceeds from this benefit event will be donated to the Vaults
of Erowid (www.erowid.org). And remember, kids - supporting Erowid
makes the baby Jesus happy. It's kind of like frankincense and myrrh in that respect.

So cancel that major surgery, reschedule your wedding, and do what
needs to be done to make sure that YOU are present for THE ALL HOLIDAY PARTY
2004! So come on down and party for the cause!

This Gala Costume Ball will have two stages and a DJ Lounge. Head! lining the evening’s entertainment will be the Red Hot Celtic Stomp band The Paperboys, featuring Tom Landa.

Rounding out the night will be the rootsy sounds of Afro-Reggae Highlife Band Ancestor Radio. Also featured will be the acoustic Celtic harmonies of The Town Criers, The rockin’ folk sounds of Rickyleebob, Cirque d'Flambe with their amazing feats of contained pyromania and Dark Lord ambient grooves provided by DJ Osiris of Oracle Gathering fame. With more surprises in store!

There will be two full! Bars serving a variety of local brews, fine wines, well drinks and special elixirs. “Hobbiton” will also have beer and wine at the “Green Dragon Tavern”. And Mr. Spots Chai House will be there to dish out the Hobbit vittles and serve chai, coffee and teas.
