Pub Mixer @ TOST.

Although I have heard Tost is a cool bar, and this is a way to get in without paying cover, I'm getting more and more skeptical about Pubmixer events:

December’s Original “Holiday” Pub Mixer will be at ToST in Fremont on Dec 12, Thursday (next week). ToST is “Fremont's only martini bar/ restaurant in an industrial chic atmosphere.” And, it will be decorated for the holidays!

ToST usually charges a $5 cover, but for the usual hours of the Pub Mixer (7:00 – 9:30 pm), they are waiving it.

This means at the door, you’ll be asked if you’re coming for the Pub Mixer. Just say yes, they’ll probably stamp your hand and then you’re good to go!

Just remember if you stay past 9:30 pm, then a $2.50 cover charge will be added to your bill (For Pub Mixer people, it’s $2.50. For the general public, it’s $5).

ToST Location: 513 North 36th Street in Fremont (near the Lenin statue).

Santarchy 2003 part II @ The Garage.

Part two of Santarchy 2003 is titled "Nothing this evil ever dies".
It's Friday, 13th. A perfect day to prove that Santa lives:

Red Dot Gallery opening on Capitol Hill

This is actually my favorite event for Friday evening - a small gallery opening at an apartment on Capitol Hill:

Friday the 13th will be the opening of a new neighborhood art gallery. It will have some of your old favorites (tomiko jones, susan robb, lao - i-ching) and some shining new favorites! The theme, though the art may not reflect this, will be small spaces. You will be mingling in a gallery that is a long, claustrophobic hallway (plenty of chances to accidently touch people), the piano player and singer are in the shower, the dirty dirty gin bar is in a closet. You will meet fascinating people and may win homemade one of a kind prizes. I heard a rumor about gay Parisian sailors in a box as well. A don't miss occasion.

Maybe you will be even able lift the secret of the host's bruise on her forehead?

1611 Belmont Ave. (right behind Kincora's pub), 9-11pm, free.

SUPERSTITION

Have you ever heard of Fandrich pianos? The actions of their uprights are amazingly light like those of better grands thanks to their patented "vertical action". Besides building and restoring pianos for his father's business, Cornish music student Stephen Fandrich is also an extremely talented pianist. I like his interpretations of Chopin ballards and his improvisations are clever and funny. I don't know what he is doing in these days. I have heard he got into overtone music.

Throw some salt over your shoulder and join us for an evening

of walking under ladders as WhatisArt? International Arts

Collective presents an evening of SUPERSTITIONS. Open an

umbrella inside and pray to the shrine of the broken mirror

and get Lucky (a member of whatisart?).

Photographer Charles Peterson spins at CoCA

I've never heard Charles Peterson spin, but if he's 1/10 as good behind the decks as he is behind a camera, this will be well worth checking out.

His photo sale last week (duly listed in PV and for those of you that missed, well, you fucked up), was outstanding. Lots of work that made him famous--grunge rockers and moshing fans--along with gorgeous new work from SE Asia.

This Friday, Charles and Co. will spin everything from French big beat house to the Sex Pistols.

CoCA, 1420 11th St (at Union) on Capitol Hill, 9:30 pm, $5.

ALADDIN AND HIS MAGIC LAMP

I hate pantomime. The world would be a better place without pantomime - and without fire performances for that matter:

This traditional English pantomime, produced and performed by

members of the Freemont Players, is silly, at times down-

right stupid.... And it's all a hell of a lot of fun! The

classic Arabian fairy tale is re-told with a live band, cue

cards for the audience, and an overall atmosphere of jovial

involvement. Arguments break out between the audience and

actors, and members of the audience are brought onstage to

participate. The vibrant costumes, bizarre transformations,

and guy next to you who keeps screaming at the Wizard will

certainly wake you up.

This sounds just plain horrible. If I went I would most likely get into an argument with the actors during the play before I would decide to participate by entering the stage and trying to kick some stupid pantomime ass. The guy next to you who keeps screaming at me would certainly wake you up from your nap.

Saturday, 12/14, 1 and 3 p.m.

SIMMERIN' SLUG SALON @ Green Cat Cafe.

Sounds like a Burning Man Pre-Compression event:

Hang out with other local burners, meet new folks, reconnect with old friends. There's no agenda, no schedule of events. I would, however, suggest that you plan to have some food while you're there! The Green Cat is keeping their kitchen open late just for us, so bring a few bucks so you can sample some of their fine chow. Read more about them here: www.greencatcafe.com.

Hey, but what about this Santa Workshop thing?!

As you know, groups of Santawannabees have been taking to the streets to spread their own brand of merriment this season. To prepare for one of their upcoming, uh... raids, they will be using this workshop for toy making, sticker design, carol writing and other Santa-like preparations. You can help out if you'd like, or you can completely ignore them... your choice.

When: THIS SUNDAY, 12/15/02 from 7:00pm until about 10:00-ish.

Where: Green Cat Cafe, 1514 E. Olive Way, 206-726-8756 http://burningmanseattle.com/events

The Guest Stars, The Stares, and The Pale in the Green Room.

Three bands are playing in the Green Room (Show Box) on Sunday: The Guest Stars, The Stares, and The Pale. Trisha writes:

Note that The Pale are the top band on DJ john richards' local top 10 list - and they are on death cab for cutie's label too i believe; also The Guest Stars will be playing live on KEXP on 12/21 at 6 pm.

Green Room, $5 at 9pm.

Windows Server Group Xmas Party @ EMP (12/6/02).

Corporate Christmas parties are usually depressing. But this one was fun because I thought I almost saw Bill Gates dancing. When we were at the bar the music stopped for a minute to give some big wig the opportunity to mumble about how great Microsoft's Server group was. Somebody was asking me: "Is that Bill talking?" and I replied "I guess so".

Fifteen minutes on our way back to the table near the dance floor a Microsoft drone asked us: "Did you see Bill dancing? - He dances like this." And then he was doing some questionable moves. I thought: Wow, this is how Bill Gates dances.

Well, the punch line of this story (and it's a rather weak one) is that there are more than one Bills working at Microsoft. I am sure Bill Gates is a fine dancer.
