On the other hand this Saturday you could also be one of the Bride of the March and get married to a dildo at Toys in Babeland here in Seattle. Tough call.

Lynch. Come see why prestigious institutions have begun giving

Mamafest '04 @ Stevens Pass

Snowboarding for a good cause:

Mamafest, an organization focused on raising breast cancer awareness and education in the local youth community, announces March 20, 2004 as the date for the fourth annual Mamafest snowboard and music festival at Stevens Pass Resort. This year, Mamafest, in partnership with Stevens Pass Resort, is doubling its goal, hoping to raise $25,000 through individual pledges, sponsorships and donations to help support the University of Washington Medical Genetics Clinic and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Mamafest 2004 is a free event, expects to reach more than 4,000 people and features educational booths, snowboard demos, live music, raffles, prizes, and the second annual Mamajam snowboard half pipe competition. Help support this great cause - breast cancer affects all of our lives!

You don't have to be a shredder to come out and support the cause. There are plenty of other things going on that day! Come early and buy raffle tickets to win awesome prizes donated by our sponsors - like gift certificates to the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle, or 2 way radios donated by Car Toys. Raffle tickets are only $1.00 and there are so many prizes to win there is a good chance you'll go home with something. Also check out live bands playing from 11 am until 4 pm, Blue Sky Mile, Go Ahead and the International Businessmen or demo equipment for next season. In addition to all this great live music, DJ's will be pumping up the crowd while individuals compete in the Mamajam Competition.

Not only that, but you can learn about breast cancer, the warning signs, how to lower your risk, and how to cope when a loved one gets diagnosed.

If you can't get the day off, or you just live to far away, Mamafest takes donations year round! Go to our website to place a donation through Paypal or send us a donation!

All funds raised this year will go directly to the UW Medical Genetics Clinic and The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Bride of March @ Johnny Rockets

Every year the Brides of March dress up in bridal gowns and marry local phallic landmarks (Monorail, Space Needle, etc.), while getting progressively drunker. This year they're starting at 6pm at Johnny Rockets (Pacific Place, Level 4), then heading on to Victoria's Secret, the Westin Hotel, Gameworks, the Lusty Lady, Toys in Babeland, Wild Rose, and the Castle Superstore.

Weddings are always hectic and in most of the cases something unexpected happens shortly before the wedding day. This time there turned out to be some problems with the location. Bride Ivan is nervous:

Shrieeek! It turns out that Vicky's Secret closes at 8pm on Saturdays!

We can't miss our annual lingerie pilgrimage. Sooo, we're changing the starting point and starting a little earlier. We're now meeting at:

6pm, Saturday March 20
Johnny Rockets
Pacific Place, level 4

Can't find us?
Call 206-818-2495

It's a 50s retro burger joint - how DARling! And anyone who needs a pint of courage can step right across the way to Gordon Biersch. After we're fed and drunken, we'll traipse right down one little escalator (watch those trains, girls!) to Vicky's Secret. All of which guarantees that we'll be in Pacific Place from 6pm 'til at least 7:30.

Afterwards, we will hit various downtown stops including the Westin Hotel (our big hubby this year), Gameworks, and the Lusty Lady. Then we'll head UP the hill for Toys in Babeland, Wild Rose, and the Castle
Superstore. (We recommend parking on the hill an! d walking down -
there's even a big public bathroom by Johnny Rockets for you shy last minute dressers.)

I just can't WAIT to see what froufrou surprises you little darlings will be wearing this year!

If you are still looking for cheap wedding dresses please take this advice from Bride Ivan:

Now, I've heard from a lot of girls that wedding dresses - even used ones - are just too dear. But the Goodwill on Dearborn has a whole rack of poofy crinoline hoop skirts for $9.99 each. Toss a white blouse on top, and VOILA! Instant bride! So I don't want to hear ANY EXCUSES, girls.

And just to get you excited, here are some photos from previous years: http://www.cockrumville.com/pics/brides/
http://www.cockrumville.com/pics/brides2/

See you on the 20th! Smoooooch!
Bride Ivan

13 Lucid Eggs @ Bluebottle Art Gallery

I ran into Erin at the last Art Walk at Forgotten Works and we chatted about Seattle's "painted flowerpot art scene". In that context I was mentioning that the Bluebottle Art Gallery has been PV's target for violating good taste etc. She agreed with I was complaining about and added: "By the way, that's where I will have my next art show!"

The reason why I am still mention this event is not only because I think this will be one of the better shows you can see at Bluebottle. No, the funny part about this show is that Erin managed to slip in a piece that has a sexual motive against Bluebottle's "painted flowerpot policies". Apparently the owner is a little bit paranoid about having a show above PG-13 rating. She said that the sexual theme is a little bit hidden but clearly visible to the trained eye.

Curators Kipling West and Erin Norlin asked artists to create a work of art based on the theme "13 Lucid Eggs". Definitely not limited to Easter, but just in time for spring, "13 Lucid Eggs" explores notions of birth and fertility as it relates to the mind, the body, the creative process or the cosmic beyond.

Blair Wilson’s candy colored egg seems to have taken inspiration from the fractal patterns found in nature and throughout the universe. Kamala Dolphin-Kingsley creates a surreal narrative of birth with imagery of a ferret inside a Faberge egg floating in a turgid sea populated with octopi. Darrel Brannock paints a DNA strand against a richly colorful collage of images. Erin Norlin draws inspiration from illuminated manuscripts while imagining what birth must be like for creatures in other galaxies. Kipling West takes on the fairy tale terror of changelings (babies exchanged at birth for fairies or demons). The ever irreverent Tom Bagley reveals the true origin of deviled eggs, while Bonni Ried uses the medium of egg tempera to paint a version of Charlotte’s Web, in which Charlotte lives to see her eggs hatch. Newcomer Chris Crites goes literal and paints a newborn baby upon a paper bag, and Denise Giago paints lush, colorful body-like forms melding together to creat! e a new life form.

The Passion of Seeing Wildlife
Tuesday, March 23, 2004, 7:30 p.m. PT

Swedish-born photographer Mattias Klum began his photography career when he was 18, having picked up a camera for the first time just four years earlier. His boyhood interest in wild animals and graphic arts evolved into a career focused on photographing endangered species and their habitats.

Klum's publication resume—numerous National Geographic magazine stories; features in Audubon, Geo, Wildlife Conservation, and other magazines; and several internationally released films—belies his relatively young age. At just 35, Klum has attained a body and quality of work akin to that of a photographer twice his age.

Described as daring and tenacious, Klum also has a keen artistic sensibility. The recipient of numerous awards for artistic merit, he has exhibited his work around the world. His engaging wit, animated delivery, and vast knowledge of wildlife have made him popular with audiences worldwide.

The extreme type of outdoor photography for which Klum is celebrated demands the utmost patience and physical fortitude. On his longest expedition to date, he took a team of four assistants on a 14-month journey deep into protected rain forest in the interior of Borneo. The team lugged over 4,400 pounds (2,000 kilograms) of gear to support the mission—including camera and filmmaking equipment, solar panels for power, and a hot-air balloon to provide aerial views of the forest.

Klum and his team worked while perched on platforms 200 feet (60 meters) up in the tree canopies, hidden in blinds on the forest floor, and suspended from tree limbs. His goal was "to capture the 'soul' of the forest and its inhabitants." The team's tenacity paid off in the form of an internationally exhibited film, radio broadcasts, a book, and a National Geographic cover story ("Malaysia's Secret Realm," August 1997).

Klum's recent assignments took him to Africa's Kalahari Desert to photograph meerkats, Southeast Asia to document the king cobra, India to document the endangered Asiatic lion, and Panama to photograph the elusive kinkajou. For a forthcoming book, Horse People, he traveled to six different countries to explore the relationships between people and their horses.

Cold Lava Report.

Tangent (Saturday 3/13/2004)

Gates writes:

Looks like the Tangent kids got shut down before the party started. My heart goes out to them, having endured the 8 cops shutting down our wig n skirt last year just when it was getting good.

But Tangent will rise again:

Sorry for the 600 of you who tried to come to the Tangent party last
weekend. We were shut down by the cops during sound check. However (if we can come up with the necessary capital) we will not be deterred!
Next party will be 'private,' so we'll need your names, preferrably via
email, at tangent_collective@riseup.net. We'll send you the invite when we have a space and time secured. Feel free to send us the names of
your friends who might want to come, too. Should be a blast, by all
accounts!

BTW, does anyone know where we can get sound and lighting equipment for free or cheap? Response from last weekend means we need to plan for
about 1000 people, and we're still a bit short from last weekend's
financial losses.

Thanks again for coming out, we'll see you next time!

GMP's 'Stuff of Legends' (Saturday 3/13/2004)

Funny that you run into these folks everywhere. Last Saturday I went to one of the great International House of Love parties and guess, who showed up?

Hey Guerrillas!

...

Thanks to everyone who made 'Stuff of Legends' so damn crazy. And
apologies to anyone who got stuck waiting to join the fun. We didn't
expect we'd hit capacity at that big place, and certainly didn't
expect that the staff would be so grumpy about it. Needless to say,
we won't be paying the Canterbury a return visit. Thanks also to
Alex and Ed, who scouted out the houseparty we invaded at 2am (just
before the cops got there).

Plans for the next party are well under way, and an invite for the
goriest GMP yet is expected to come out in the next day or so...
maybe even tonite. Get your fake blood ready for April 17th!

...

And speaking of people doing dirty things (and I'm not talking about
the boys I found in the bathroom stall at the Canterbury): Next
Saturday nite (3/20), the Brides of March will be starting their
annual drinking marathon at 6:30 at Johnny Rockets in Pacific Place.
We'll send the full details to the GMPSeattleChat yahoo group.
Anyone interested should sign up at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GMPSeattleChat/ We'll also be sure to
keep you abreast of news regarding the upcoming Bunnarchy and Billion
Bunny March events rumored to be happening in April.
