Karaoke Friday @ Magic Theatre

Gates says: "This is a low budget activity for Friday. Howard is one of the Camp DeNile Burners, a fine person and creative soul."

Howard Gutknecht writes:

Announcing the first big Karaoke Madness evening at the Magic Theatre!

The crowd will be small, so we can guarantee you lots of singing.
Or laughing at the singers - it's your choice! Sing choruses for
extra points!

Over 400 songs in our collection - a little bit of everything!
We'll have beer - donations welcome- or bring your own favorite beverage.

Bring friends!

Cheers!

Lara is reading Party Volcano's mind:

yeah, $15 may be steep for bowling, but it's a benefit/fundraiser for Seattle Art Cars- We use the money to pay the gas money/expenses for the out-of-town artcars we invite to the Fremont Fair. Good cause, good fun, horrible wigs.

Roq La Rue Gallery and TheWarrenReport
Present
A FREE screening
"R.I.P. - Rest In Pieces"
a documentary about Joe Coleman
by Robert-Adrian Pejo

Saturday March 27th 7pm only
at
The Seattle Art Museum

Roq La Rue (and The Warren Report) is thrilled to be bringing legendary outsider/visionary artist Joe Coleman back for a screening of his amazing documentary. At turns disturbing, hilarious, and thought provoking, this film will delightfully shock and amaze you. But listen up- seats are limited- the show is FREE but if you want Roq La Rue to hook you and yours with free tickets just give us a call or email- we’ll give you a password to get into the screening. Which you don’t want to miss because Joe Coleman will be in attendance for a Q+A and reception after the screening, hosted by Warren Etheridge of TheWarrenReport.!

More details about the movie:

Documentary Chronicles the Wonderfully Weird World of Artist Joe Coleman

REST IN PIECES: A PORTRAIT OF JOE COLEMAN is an entertaining and
informative film about Coleman, an artist whose stunning, chaotic and
colorful works of art provide biting social commentary.

Director Robert-Adrian Pejo presents a compelling study of "apocalyptic
visionary painter" Joe Coleman. Touching on subjects as diverse as
divorce, urban decay, and nuclear weapons, Coleman provides a fresh
critique of 21st century America. The film follows Joe through deserted
New York City streets, an autopsy room in Budapest and live performances,
in which he blows himself up with dynamite. Pejo pieces together a
portrait of his subject through interviews with Joe, his therapist,
ex-lovers, his publisher and the filmmaker Jim Jarmusch.

Coleman agreed to Pejo's project after he had seen 'Der Weg nach Eden', a
film by Pejo about autopsies in Budapest. Coleman had two requests before
he agreed to sign on for REST IN PIECES: that he could involve his
favorite psychobilly musician Hasil Adkins in the project and that he be
allowed to do his own autopsy in Budapest.

Now in his 40's, and just beginning to receive mainstream recognition, Joe
paints extremely detailed masterworks commissioned by patrons in the
international art world and celebrity admirers like Iggy Pop, Leonardo
DiCaprio and Johnny Depp. His tools include magnifying glasses and a
single-hair paintbrush to create visual intricacies that capture the
complexity of his imagination.

SAM, 7pm.

Soiree @ Mantra Lounge

Juice (is that a name?) writes:

I wanted to see if it was possible to submit an event for next weeks
Party Volcano. I've had such great success finding new and interesting events from your list that I thought I would give others the opportunity to check out our event and hopefully turn a few people on to the sounds of 2step and UK Garage.

2step and UK Garage, which is one of the most widely listened to genres of electronic and urban music in the UK, has been growing steadily in US clubs and creating quite a following. With the recent success of several prominent UK artists getting airplay here in the states, most notably Dizzee Rascal / MJ Cole and The Street, people are begining to take notice and get into the sound.

Saturday March 27th we will be having our regular Soiree session at the
Mantra Lounge on 210 E Washington which will showcase the best the 2step and UK Garage sound has to offer. We will also be celebrating the CD Release of Rama and Insight's Lights Out Mix, our anual post Miami/WMC event. We will be handing out FREE copies of the mix to guests featuring many exclusive dubplates from the UK's leading producers.

Soiree takes place at the mantra lounge every 2nd and 4th saturdays of the month, and every 3rd saturday of the month @ the EMP's Liquid Lounge.

Here are more details:

Movies, Burlesque, and Bands @ Re-bar

Ellen and K.D. write:

Hello friends -

With much regret, after a great three years, Secluded Alley Works
artists' co-op is about to close our doors. We're having one last
benefit "hurrah!" so we can leave in the black and really hope for a
big crowd. (Many thanks to all the performers who are donating their
time and energy, and many thanks to Re-bar!) Please come, and please
forward this email to anyone you think might be interested!

Thank you!
- Ellen Forney and K.D. Schill.

That's really sad. I really like Secluded Alley Works and the fine people that have been running it. I have seen good shows there - bad ones too. Any regrets? Yes, I should have bought the Pucinelli dummy for $90. What else do I remember? Our snack ratings for SAW went up for a while when they were serving sushi at their openings. But then they cut down on those fancy snacks - and so did we with our snacks stars for SAW.

I also remember one event where they were handing out a bunch of free stuff. A cigarette company was sponsering that show and providing the much needed "golden shower" for SAW. I still have that stupid biker bag that I got for free at that show. My original plan was to glue it on a wall at a Burning Man glue gun party. But it was too heavy. Ahh, memories...

A Night of Movies, Burlesque, and Bands!
