Art Walk: "Scenes from the LOST PLANET" @ Pioneer Square Saloon

Barbara is recommending this event:

Peter, a special friend of mine, has traveled to some incredible places! Don't miss this show. Through his images you'll get a glimpse into some magical places. A perfect stop after the gallery walk this Thursday evening.

For the past decade Peter Zachara has been exploring the sacred cities of Asia. Traveling by bus, motorcycle, riverboat and ox-cart, he has photographed from Khiva in Uzbekistan to the Mekong River in Laos.

This show, essentially out-takes from a larger book project, "THE LOST PLANET", focuses on road trips to Spiti, Kinnaur, Bukhara, Cambodia and
Southern India. All photographs are medium format 16x20 C Prints and
are issued in a limited run of 50.

Anthony Ausgang and Yumiko Kayukawa @ Roq la Rue's new space.

Roq la Rue's press release:

This show will be the inaugural show held in our brand spankin' new space, which is only a block away from our previous gallery!

Anthony Ausgang paints a brilliantly colored, Tex Avery-on-hallucinogens style of cartoon animals--primarily cats--in situations in which humanity often finds itself mired...the pursuit of sex, drugs, religion, and the opposition of boredom. His nameless characters are a way to express the "everyman" condition of his subject matter, while the colors and contortions of his paintings add a twist that makes the viewer notice the unintentionally funny aspects found in tragic events.

Yumiko Kayukawa hails from Sapporo Japan- and has already made a name for herself early in her career for her candy bright pop paintings of fashionable young women, animals, and traditional Japanese motifs. Yumiko's work blends fashion illustration, sharp iconic graphics, and meticulously rendered flora and fauna to create images that evoke a dreamy and enigmatically erotic tone.

This show opens Friday Sept 6th from 6-10pm. Both artists will be in attendance. Snax, Liquids, Music. Come see our gorgeous new gallery! It's only half a block away north on 2nd Ave.

Roq la Rue's new address: 2316 2nd Ave. 6-10pm, free.

Joshua Kohl Music for Chamber Ensemble & Moe! Staiano's Moe!kestra! .

Polestar Music Gallery launches its fall season with a wild-and-wonderful weekend of creative chamber and orchestral (Moe!kestra!l?) music. Degenerate Art Ensemble leader Joshua Kohl premieres two sets of chamber ensemble works focused on microtones and rhythmic expansion. Percussionist, composer, and orchestra leader
Moe! Staiano of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum fame leads a seventeen-piece orchestra in a performance of another bizarre Moe!kestra! score, "Piece No. 6: And They All Swore They Slept Soundly."
Both groups perform Friday and Saturday evening.

Polestar Music Gallery, 1412 - 18th Avenue (at East Union), 8pm, $8 suggested donation.

DJ Cheb i Sabbah @I-Spy.

DJ Cheb i Sabbah spins The Human Audica Tour with David J and Dahlia.
The Stranger wrote about Cheb I Sabbah:

It's easy for a DJ to sound contrived--or just fucking ridiculous--while attempting to spin world music. The possibility of extreme cheesiness lurks within every llooped bodhran and sampled sitar that shows up in the mix. Algerian-born, San Francisco-based DJ Cheb I Sabbah, on the other hand, lives and breathes his preferred subject matter, the music of Algeria's rai artists, giving his work a sense of authority. On his latest disc, Krishna Lila, DJ Cheb forgets about beats and uses traditional Hindu devotionals to provide undercurrents of rhythm.

I-Spy/Nation, 1921 5th Ave (between Virginia & Stewart), 9:00PM, $12 at the door.
