Halloween Party at Mulleady's Irish Pub

This is a good option if you are looking for a Halloween party at a bar or even just a place to get a drink before heading out to other events. I know it sounds funny to celebrate Halloween in an Irish bar, but it has a certain resonance--I mean, after all Halloween sort of has it's origins vaguely in that area of the world with its druid past and whatever. Butt really the reason to go is because Mulleady's is a friendly neighborhood sort of place. And bartender Amy will be dressed in a sexy vampire outfit complete with a "blue-ice" colored wig.

Mulleady's Irish Pub, 2017 W. Dravus St., in Magnolia. exit off of 15th (right before or after the Ballard bridge) onto W. Dravus St., go past Red Mill into Magnolia and it'll be on your left as you start to go up the hill.

Boo '02 @ Watertown

About once per quarter, Andrea Martin hosts a big, for-profit party through her Space City Mixer business. I went to her Salsa party last Spring and had fun. The crowd was more mainstream than the usual attitude-riddled Art Scene/Burning Man/Hipster crowd. What a relief. Instead of just standing around looking cool, people actually talked and flirted. Guys even asked girls to dance.

I wound up chatting with a group of Brazilians and I felt a common if distant kinship, since PV's fact checker is Brazilian, the lovely, if error-prone, Gisele. (Note to our Platinum Eruption Services Members: New photos have just been posted of Gisele being disciplined due to recent fact checking mistakes.)

$15, Watertown Night Club, 106 1st Ave N (cross street, Denny), starts at 8:00pm

Loveshack’s Hell’oween @ Fado.

Martin “Loveshack” Lovschall is a friendly Danish guy, who for the last few years lived in Seattle. Through his extreme gregariousness he accumulated an email list of over 2700 people. He would throw huge parties in which he invited all 2700 plus people (of course, only a fraction showed up to any given event—but still they were well attended). He threw the parties simply for his love of people, not to make a profit. He became something of a party legend in this city.

It has been quiet after Loveshack’s last big “Go Away Party” (notice that cute Danish ESL) before his return to Denmark earlier this year. We, at Party Volcano, thought Loveshack’s legend would fade into a distant memory. But Halloween is simply too important to be missed by Mr Loveshack even:

Long time no see my friend, so... Yep I gotta do it again this year throw a Hell of a party on October 31st. Again this year Fado’s will be the craziest place in town and Loveshack’s Hell’oween will be raising hell in this Heaven/Hell’ish place. This years GRAND prize for the best costume will be a trip direct to HELL…. Yes a trip for 2 to Hell, Cayman island. So find your fancies, ugliest most attentionseeking outfit and come join this Seattle’s best Halloween party. There will be lots of specials and a complementary Buffet from 7-8pm.

Party Volcano is a little bit disappointed that Loveshack didn't name this event "Go to Hell Party" (German ESL).

Fado - 801 1st Ave, $5 pre bought tickets or $10 at the door (206-264 2700 for tix). FREE buffet from 7-8 pm.

TROLL-A-GO-GO @ FuNC in Fremont.

Uncle Daddy is excited:

Dearest Pals, I've been absent to the party notice biz of late. And then, comes a party. A party so...special....so..magical....you want to open the window and shout- "Hey everybody! There's a special..uh...magical...party." Yeah.

This....party..is the TROLL-A-GO-GO in Fremont on Oct.31.

Freaky Fremontsters (unwashed, but great costumes), great bands, and nasty carnival attractions are there. IMO- this is the best local, non-house Halloween party in Seattle. If you go, get your tickets in advance. Last year, about half the people waiting in a huge line (including society power-monger Andrew Havlis a.k.a. Colombian businessman Carlo Pena Chavarria) could not get in! Don't let this happen to you!!

Please look out for that gentleman, who is wearing a rose pinned to the empty sleeve of his blouse.

9:00 PM to 2:00 AM, $10 adv, $15 at the door ($12 in costume) 21+
Bands/DJs: IQU, American Sheriff, Mercury Skin, AC Lewis (Bonafide) vs. Knightrider (Lovecats) with special performances by The Cabiri and much, much more!

Friday, 11/1.

Day of the Dead Reception @ SAM.

Roq La Rue presents: THE CLAYTON BROTHERS and CANDY LACKEY.

We have heard good things about this opening.

Rob and Christian Clayton, both superb artists in their own right, have teamed up often to do collaborative pieces since 1997. Both share a similar vision revolving around the themes of luck, fate, death, and religion, as well as a distinctive, enigmatic "surreal folk art" style that expresses both the absurd as well as the more sorrowful aspects of life.

Vibrant, tightly decorated compositions use imagery culled from classic tattoo patterns, folkloric animals, and religious iconography. Images are layered over each other, the end result often evoking a dark fairytale that looks familiar but that you can't quite place, a 50's morality fable turned up to 10, and then turned on its ear.

The show at Roq la Rue will feature 12 new paintings as well as a full wall installation of small paintings and drawings.

Aftermath Gallery presents: "Freaks"

Diana writes:

It's that time of year when a concept show is a "no-brainer" That's why our next show is entitled: "Freaks!!! (The Art or the Artist)." Sure,
anybody can create art with shock value, but we're focusing on the artist as well -- whether the art is "normal" or not, the artist may be just as oddly intriguing.

"Freaks" highlights will be Michael Doucette's Photos of Cirque Du Soleil contortionists, Holly Jennifer Newman's interactive "celebrity coffin" installation.

Aftermath Gallery, 928 12th Ave (capitol Hill, next to Kokeb Restaurant, south of Union). Reception 7-10pm.

Mozart's Requiem @ St. James Cathedral

I am glad I will not miss this concert thanks to Advance Kitesurf. He is pointing out this wonderful event:

On the Vigil of the Feast of All Souls, the Cathedral Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Soloists present Mozart's masterpiece in its intended setting, the solemn Mass for the Dead. Lisa Cardwell Pontén, soprano; Kathryn Weld, mezzo soprano; Howard Fankhauser, tenor; Norman Smith, bass. James Savage, director. The Very Reverend Michael G. Ryan, Pastor of St. James Cathedral, Presider. Free-will offering.

Advance Kitesurf recommends: "Bring a date, if you can dig one up from some creepy ass graveyard. Otherwise, you can always just grope some innocent choir boy." He asked we not quote him on this, lest we suffer vivisection tonight. But we could not resist. So, I guess I will be vivisected by a kite surfer tonight.

Please come and join in when we all sing along: "Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis..." - The damned and accursed are convicted to the flames of Hell!

St. James Cathedral, Friday November 1st, 7:30pm, free. (Erik, if you still
think that I have the biggest one bedroom house in town you should check out
St. James Cathedral!)

PLAYAWEEN: A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION BENEFITTING BURNING MAN

Let's see:

Buddhaful house and nu Soltribe bring you PLAYAWEEN, an eclectic blend of freaky cosmic soul, fire dancing, hip-hop, breakdancing, trip-hop, spoken word, projections, house beatz, visual art and... A BURNING MAN FASHION SHOW, featuring peoples and vibrations from Black Rock City! (the location of burning man) The evening will begin at 9pm with dj Malkolm Groovesmith and will take you on a magic freak ride through conscious arts to finale with nu SolTribe.

Okay, that's it: No more Burning Man events please! I am sick of them. Of course I will still go, but I am sick of them. After 6 months of Pre-Burning Man burns at Golden Garden's beach, BM fundraisers, BM itself, and now BM fashion show, I am feeling a little "compressed".

So I guess, I'll see you at Seattle's Burning Man Decompression Party next week then?

I-Spy, 1218 5th Avenue, 9 pm $12 ($10 costume).

Hitchhiker Gathering and Scavenger Hunt

Every week we throw in an odd event. This is the oddest I could find for this week. The international hitchhiking community is getting together in Seattle at the beginning of November:

We'd like to invite you to get yer butt over to the Gathering and meet your fellow hitchhikers. Discuss the current state of hitchhiking over pizza and beers. Swap stories with veterans and newbies of the road.

Also, digihitch.com is sponsoring the 1st Annual Hitchhiker Scavenger Hunt. It will begin in Seattle in mid November and end 2 weeks later in Key West, Florida. Hitchhikers will be sent out in teams of two with a camera and a checklist. The hitchhiking duo who shows up in Key West with the most photos of items on the list will win some very cool road prizes. All will get to bask in the fickle limelight of the media.

We will meet at Picnic Shelter #3 near the top of the loop road in the late morning of Saturday, November 2nd. For any of you who are early risers, please try to get to the site as soon as possible to claim the space. It's first come, first serve, and the park opens at 4am.

Suzanne Truman's Oils and Encautics @ Pound Gallery.

The Pound Gallery presents "Oils and Encautics" by Suzanne Truman:

Using oil and encaustic on canvas, Truman creates works of beauty and subtlety. While she draws inspiration from the landscape that surrounds her Montana home, these are not literal landscape paintings.
Instead, they are the essence of the colors, textures, feelings, and echoes of what the landscape leaves behind.

Using the technique of adding and subtracting materials onto the surface of her paintings, Truman "evokes the myriad of sensations and stories that the Land around me offers."

Opening Reception: 6-10pm
Pound Gallery, 1216 Tenth Avenue (Capital Hill)

"Graphic" @ LGBT Community Center Art Gallery.

This is an exhibit featuring select works from Seattle artists Patrick Baroch and Christopher Rollins:

Baroch's obsessive oil and latex on canvas portraits, composed of thousands of tiny dots, owe more of their heritage to the halftone photos one finds in the morning paper than they do to Seurat.

Rollins' acrylic paintings likewise owe a great deal to the graphic arts. Inspired by sporting event posters.

LGBT, 1115 E. Pike St. Reception: 7:00-9:00pm .

Katie's and Denise's Birthday Party @ Korthaus Tavern on Phinney.

I asked Katie: Can I send this out to 300 people? She said: Yes, but they have to introduce themselves and wish me Happy Birthday. That's a fair deal.

Hey don't forget to come on up to Ed's Korthaus Tavern on Phinney this Saturday, November 2, to celebrate Katie ("I'm turning 23 again!") and Denise's ("Me too!") Birthdays!!!

Ed will be hosting the funnest birthday soiree you've ever gotten all gussied up for, so show up anytime after 8! There will be cake, pretty girls, rich guys, and all the exotic meats one menu can offer. Mmm, grizzly bear and cake....

Korthaus Tavern, 6732 Greenwood Avenue North, 8pm.

SMS's Autumnal sans "clash" explosion @ The Vera Project.

RUMMAGE @ Nation.

Sam Trout and Mathew Parker have been busy making this month's Rummage a special event:

We've got Reggie Watts from Maktub who'll be giving a live performance as well as a new crew called the Knitting World Crew who are pretty awesome. One of their members, Cass Corridor, plays about ten Casio keyboards and a drum machine all at once!

FLATCHESTEDMAMA will be bringing her challenging game of medicine cabinet memory. This game is really hard and I challenge anyone to make it through an entire game. You may not survive.

Good cheap art, brunch and DJ's. First Sunday of every month, 12-4pm

Casey Kelbaugh presents "Potluck Slideshow XVIII" @ CoCA.

I wish I had saved that one angry email from the lady, who used to host Potluck Slideshows at 619 Western. It sounded like this: "Do not invite people to our Potluck Slideshow. We don't want to see any of you hipster crowed! This is about art bla, bla, bla." At that time I thought: you wish.

Times may have changed. This invitation sounds much better and at least Casey's photos are actually art. He takes photos for The Stranger and other local papers and you should definitely check out his site. He gets Party Volcano's full support. This week the theme is "Apathy":

This is a slideshow and it is a potluck. If you don't know what a potluck is, please look it up in the dictionary before coming. We ask that you bring food (made from scratch) and drink (please no home-brews) and if you're so obliged, a slide presentation of up to 5 minutes in length. The slide "presentation" however one wants to interpret that, can either be related to the theme of apathy, or it can be it's own dog. We look at the un-themed work first, then take some down-time and then get all fired up for "Apathy."

Bon Appetite!

COCA, 1420 11TH AVENUE (ON CAPITOL HILL BETWEEN PIKE AND UNION).
POTLUCK BEGINS AT 7:30
SLIDES BEGIN AT 9:00

Cold Lava

International House Of Love (Sat 10/19).

Space Virgin Dan overheard this interesting conversation outside IHOL:

Man and woman, mid twenties, walking towards party...
Him: "and I got the shirt in Heidelberg, and I got the pants in Florence..and"
Her: " wow! they look GREAT, I mean, really GOOD!
Him: "YEAH they do!"

How international!

BUH-Bye Scott (Halloween Party on 10/26).

Shortly after submitting Party Volcano's favorite "Scott Memory" (see PV events from last week) we received this email from Scott "Squirrel Hunter" Kurttila himself:

I give up. Who is party volcano? I remember that cold day in Finland, the dead animals, the forgotten flute...but the name escapes me as I've had at least one too many beers in my day.

Unfortunately I ran into so many people that I knew - and that apparently knew Scott - that I didn't have a chance to refresh his memories.
I also missed him on "NW Afternoon" (a local TV show on Komo4) on Tuesday and hope that he was able to find 15 or more friends that joined him to get a free "charity message" on air.

Here are his final words before he left for San Francisco:

We packed in over 550 people, the floors held and we raised the roof with donations to breast cancer totalling $4,825!!!
