Sorry for the typos and bugs in last week's Party Volcano email. I promise you'll find at least as many typos in this issue. New Directions in Alcohol Consumption: Amazon's Fraud Department @ Linda's.

Events hosted by Amazon's fraud department tend to be much tamer on Thursdays - or "Little Fridays" as they call them. In either way it's fun hanging out with them. Here is the invitation:

We would be much honored if you were to grace us with your presence for a pint or two at our much bally-hoooed watering hole. Predators and barflies aside, this promises to be a much needed oasis of leisure before we enter the busy holiday season that will make or break our stock options (errr, I mean "company").

Invite all those I neglected to include and tell them they get the gift of a free neck-punch (giving, not receiving) as a result of my negligence.

There should also be door prizes (Frequent Tubbers card from "Tubs", etc.)

Linda's on Capitol Hill.

Cabinet of Curiosities @ SAW.

Secluded Alley Works proudly presents Cabinet of Curiosities by Christopher Balder:

Created entirely from found objects, these pieces are inspired by faded memories of old time carnivals, primitive children's toys, puppet theatres, and other pieces of the past, reimagined in narrative, romantic and sometimes spooky 3-d boxes.

Opening Reception: Friday, November 8th at 7:00 pm
Secluded Alley Works, 113 12th Avenue (12th and Yesler).

ARTSY RUMMAGE SALE @ SAND POINT MAGNUSON PARK.

I find it a little bit unusual to pay $5 only to get in for a rummage sale. But hey, at Seacompression volunteers have to pay cover charge if they want to get in and start their shift.

Out of Site: Fictional Architectural Spaces @ Henry.

The Henry Art Gallery is having an opening party for their new exhibition called "Out of Site: Fictional Architectural Spaces":

The artists in Out of Site have re-organized and re-articulated space using a wide range of media to produce the exhibition’s "fictional" architectural spaces;spaces that are informed by the history of utopian proposals, science fiction, and major shifts in architectural discourse and building in recent years.

Let's hope the snacks won't be fictional like the last two Henry openings I went to (see our recent snack downgrades of the Henry Gallery).

The Henry Art Gallery is located on the western edge of the University of Washington campus at 15th Avenue NE and NE 41st Street.
$8, free for members and one guest.

ECLECTO LOUNGE

Arne is reading his poetry at Jade Pagoda:

Live poetry fed over an effects mixer to minimal techno, trip hop, experimental, etc. Expect beats moody to shake ass.

He writes:

Last time there was an event here, the room filled fast, drinks moved slow, and a few people got pissed. The place was ready for 40 and got 100+. They bumped up the staff for this Friday though, so if no one panics, the booze will flow unhindered. Smiles and cash money open the dike.

DJs: Paul Edward & Nordic Soul (Sean Horton)
POET: Arne Pihl
LIVE PA: Nordic Soul

Jade Pagoda on C-hill (606 E. Broadway), free, 9:30 to close.

Seacompression Festival @ FuNC.

This may be the last Burning Man event for the next ... 3 days:

If you have never been to Burning Man, now's your chance to get a taste of what it's like! For burners, it's time to decompress with ALL your Northwest playa pals.

Every year over 2,500 people from the Seattle area drive, fly, skate and hop 800 miles to the Nevada desert for an unprecedented week long festival called Burning Man. It is a week of party, extreme art, free thought, intimate connections and radical self _expression. Oh yes, and dust storms. We burners from Seattle represent almost 10% of the nearly 30,000 people who come together to form this community called Black Rock City. The experience is inexplainable. It can only be shared, not described. Now, we are sharing it. Here, in Seattle. For one very full day that we are calling SEACOMPRESSION. Please join us. Drown your senses with art, fire performances, live music, slide shows and movies. Ride our art cars. Eat paella and dance to our DJs under the glow of EL wire.

Chill in our domes or show off your fashion sense in Pat Cole's "Strut Your Stuff" improv fashion walk.

Come to Seacompression. Express yourself. Dance. Sing. Drum. Look. Learn. Touch. Taste. Talk. Share. Interact! Because in life, there are no spectators.

Notice that this is an all-day long Burning Man event so you will have a whole day for doing all the Burning Man things Burning Man people love to do until the next Burning Man event.

To be fair: There is nothing wrong with Seacompression. It should be a fun event. But I am pretty much done with Burning Man events for this year.

When & Where:
SeaCompression: The Drowning World

Invaders From Earth @ ConWorks.

This will be the last opportunity to see Invaders From Earth at ConWorks.
John Schlick is recommending it:

ConWorks is having performances of a (live theatre onstage) play called "Invaders From Earth". They have a great theatre space, it's a very talented cast, and it's a science fiction b-movie story told in b-movie fashion with lots and lots of laughs (also skimpy costumes for the men and women, grisly murders, and the lost ruler of the universe Lord Valkar)

The conworks space also has a bar, a conema, and an art gallery.
It's definitly a must se if you like live theatre OR science fiction.

ConWorks, 500 Boren Avenue North, between Mercer Street and Republican Street, Fridays through Sundays at 8pm, $14.

Original Pub Mixer @ Bada Lounge

Many people disagree with me, but I say it anyway: For me Bada is like a bathroom filled with attractive yuppies. With that being said I am passing on the soap to Andrea Koster (who is not a yuppie, by the way):

Bada Lounge is in Belltown and has a distinctive décor to it…futuristic, everything is white, pink lights. I’ve heard people say it looks like something out of Clockwork Orange or that 2001 movie. This Web site gives an even better picture (www.badalounge.com). Anyway, I thought it would be fun to try. They have some pool tables too and serve dinner if you’re hungry. Also it’s on a Wed, not a Thursday. I try to do the Pub Mixers on the 2nd Thursday of each month. But Bada has an ongoing event on Thursday’s which makes them too busy for us, so this time I had to do it on a Wed.

For those who haven't been to a Pub Mixer before, here's a little description…
It's probably the most unstructured Space City Mixer event in that people just show up, have a drink and start socializing. Lately the Pub Mixers have had over 200 attendees, so by 8:15 or so, we're usually about the entire bar. The idea is to mingle, meet new people, see those you know. Everyone is invited - friends, co-workers, your significant other, etc. It's a fun, friendly “mix” event. They usually go until 9:30/10.

Bada Lounge Location: 2230 1st Ave in Belltown (between Bell & Blanchard).

Cold Lava

Mozart's Requiem @ St. James Cathedral (11/1).

I should have known: There is no such thing as a free lunch. It was a professional mass and they were only going to play parts of the Requiem - most likely only the shitty ones that are not even by Mozart himself. We managed to escape before the rituals started and moved on to Roq la Rue. The opening was bad. I have to say I like the old place better. The paintings of the Clayton Brothers looked a little bit like cheap imitations of Mark Ryden's work. Roq la Rue does also not serve booze anymore, which would help calming you down after being hit by stuff falling off the ceiling. But as I said before: There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Russel's Masque Party on Halloween (10/31).

What a great party! Kelly was showing up in a great "interactive costume". She was wearing about 8 layers of underpants (http://www.internationalwebservice.com/BFIhalloween2002/pages/27_jpg.htm), each of those underpants had a word written on them. The interactive part was pulling down her pants layer per layer which eventually formed a whole sentence.

It was something political that I didn't get(http://www.internationalwebservice.com/BFIhalloween2002/pages/28_jpg.htm), because I was probably too drunk. The last pants were her white furry bunny pants (http://www.internationalwebservice.com/BFIhalloween2002/pages/30_jpg.htm). The sentence ended with something like "democrats should lick bush". Most people needed to be told that Kelly was in "interactive mode". So I did:

Me: "Look, it's Kelly with her interactive costume!"
She/He: "Oh, how does it work?"
Kelly: "Are you into politics?"
She/He: "Yes, in fact..."
Me: "Yeah, let's get to the pants part!"

Later I tried to convince some friendly folks that this other guy was also wearing an interactive costume - which he wasn't. They would only need to pull down his pants and see what would happen. I went home at around 3am and even learned how to say "clean up your room" in Italian. Can you ask for more?
