Events For 11/15 to 11/20/2002

There is nothing going on this weekend except for private house warming and farewell parties. I wish I were in Hawaii...

Maybe you should stay in and recover from the past party weekends and surf the Web. Learn about entrances to Hell around the UK (http://www.entrances2hell.co.uk/page308.html), or consider buying an airplane home (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871720300). You might ask: Who would buy that? There is more of that at http://www.whowouldbuythat.com . Interested in sports? - Why not picking up Sepak Takraw (http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/4278/sports.html)? If those links won't be able to keep you busy for a while try http://www.yenz.com/x-fish.html and tell me how it works - I couldn't figure it out. And then there is always http://www.seattlesucks.com...

Vancouver Videopoem Festival

Don't go. I checked out some videos on their web site and all I found was crap.
This one is pretty bad:

Compare that to this one, which I actually like:

Good Bye BONA FIDE.

Everything comes to an end except for sausage.
J-Justice says good-bye:

Well, this is it. The final session of BONA FIDE!
Come down for one last Friday Freak-out session.

Our good friend Ken Wallace is gonna hold it down on the decks with us.
And I think there may be a suprise guest or two.
A big thank you to all the regulars and irregulars.

That was it? - No more Steve Miller fashion appreciation nights (see PV from 8/1/02)? What about one last Seattle style / New York style debate (see PV from 4/4/02)? That's kind of sad...

Email him to get on the guestlist (jason@downtempo.com)
Friday Nov. 15th at Nation 1921 5th Ave, 9p-2a, $5, 21+.

Saturday, 11/16.

Fancy Opening.

Last weekend Party Volcano met a talented young woman named Sally Brock, who is merging two of the things that we love most: bright, beautiful objects and the hurly-burly of budding capitalism. Sally is opening her own jewelry shop. It's named Fancy and will feature jewelry of her own design. If the ring she sported on her finger--a simple, silver number with a lovely stone set in it--is any indication, her work will be well worth checking out. The shop is tentatively scheduled to open this Sat, Nov 16, if all goes well.

Fancy, 1932 2nd Ave (cross street Virginia, next to the Moore Theatre)
Tentative opening Sat Nov 16 (maybe around noonish?). If not on Sat, Fancy should open soon.

Octet #4 Patte Loper & Tatiana Garmedia @ CoCA.

Opening begins @6pm, music and party starts at 8pm, it'll be over by midnight.
I am sure there will be a cover charge ($5?).
CoCA Gallery, 1420 11th Ave.

Rubin Clement Piano Dialogues @ Benaroya Hall

This could be an interesting concert. The press release says:

Cornish College of the Arts is pleased to announce a two-piano recital by the Rubin Clement Piano Duo, featuring original works by Amy Rubin and Dawn Clement, as well as arrangements of music by Chick Corea, Astor Piazzolla, Egberto Gismonti and others.

"Peppered with jazz and minimalist overtones, these two women extend the piano's already sonic capabilities and infuse the music with shimmering energy," writes NewMusicBox. The lines between composed and improvised music, and classical and jazz standards are erased in this polyglot musical exploration of new, original, and traditional works. Rubin and Clement began their musical dialogue in 2000, participating in an African Music Festival, Traditions and Transformations, at Cornish College of the Arts.

The concert will be held at the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall in the Seattle Symphony's Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street, Seattle, on November 15, 2002, at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $5 for students with ID, available at (206) 292-ARTS or www.ticketmaster.com.

If you are into this kind of stuff you should also check out UW Concerto Competition on Monday, see http://www.thestranger.com/current/score.html for more details.

Stereo Total @ Graceland.

This is this week's highlight for me. I saw Stereo Total last year and liked them a lot. Brezel Goering and Francoise Cactus are from Berlin and they are fun. I'll give you a translation of the first part of Dactylo Rock - one of their songs:

When I see you COMMA
I think COLON
That boy depresses me
I want to DOT DOT DOT
That he would tell me QUOTES
Please come home with me
Yes, and when QUESTION MARK
Today at four SHARP (FULL STOP)

After the show last year a girl came up to Ms Cactus and confessed enthusiastically: "I want to have your baby!" But Stereo Total's drummer refused the offer with European attitude: "You are weird." I got homesick when I was watching that scene.

Expect a lot of Europeans and especially Germans showing up. If you run into Cedric ask him about his "favorite circumcision story". Although he might say: "You are weird."
