"Drama in the Desert" @ Elliott Bay Book Company.

Holly Kreuter will show slides that are published in "Drama in the Desert: The Sights and Sounds of Burning Man". She writes:

If you haven't already heard, a group of us here in San Francisco recently finished a hardcover book and DVD set called "Drama in the Desert: The Sights and Sounds of Burning Man". 24 people were on the production team and there were over 90 contributors to the project...
I will show slides at the Elliott Bay Book Company on Thursday night as well as read a bit and sign books.

Saturday afternoon she will also show the 74 minute film from the DVD that comes with the book. Also on the DVD are interviews with artists and Larry Harvey (who the fuck is Larry Harvey? and why would I care?) and a slide show of 600 images.

EclectoLounge @ Alibi Room.

Paul Edward is inviting us to EclectoLounge. This time it's at the Alibi Room. Their drinks are not as strong as Jade Pagoda's. On the other hand there is a good chance that you don't need them this time:

EclectoLounge is back, this time at the Alibi room on Thursday the 16th. Same idea...poetic words over funky beats. This time spoken word artist Piece joins us along with DJ Brandy Westmore. Arne Phil, myself, and Nordic Soul are back again with spoken word, DJ'ing, and a laptop respectively. If you were at the last one, you know its something special. Peep the flyer, hope to see you there.

EclectoLounge at the Alibi Room. Dj Paul Edwards, Lap Top Composer Nordic Soul, and Poet Arne Pihl join forces with Dj Brandy Westmore, Word Artist Piece, and Trumpeter Adiep for a night of beats, vocabulary, and live electronic fusion. 9:30pm. FREE. downstairs.

Toy Cameras Workshop @PCNW.

This workshop will cost you $110, which is not much money if you consider what you'll get: after 6 hours of training you'll be able to conquer any Holga:

Slides & demonstration cameras will be used to cover the theory, history, & current use of toy cameras. You will learn how to load, shoot, (outdoors & in) & unload a Holga (included with the workshop) & there will be discussion of processing & printing problems. Bring a roll or two of 120 film, 400 speed or higher, B&W or color.

Pan's Amnesia Afterlife @ CoCA.

Those smart puppies that compile CoCA's emails forgot to mention when this opening will happen. Fortunately we received more meaningful information from the artist himself.

"AMNESIA AFTERLIFE: body dreams of elephants" is an installation by Butoh dancer and performance artist dk pan. He presents an innovative installation based upon the relationship of bodies and the tactile sense. It's an explorative environment utilizing video, sound, design, and performance that seeks to raise awareness of the interfaces that link us to the sensate and the various perceptions of the human form. Materials such as 2500 lbs of salt, a nude body, fake fur, three fishes, an architectural structure, and six-channel video monitors / projection are included in this work.

They might charge $5 at the door.

Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) - 1420 11th Avenue (between Pike and Union on Capitol Hill)

CRASH FANS @ Jewel Box Theater in the Rendezvous

Seattle Fools is pointing out this strange movie/music/drinking event:

I'm pleased as punch, tickled pink, and alarmingly elated to
about this screening of Crash Fans, a feature-length
documentary about the demolition derby subculture. This
special screening is hosted by The Warren Report and we
promise fun and frivolity will prevail. How, you ask? 1) The
Moires (the same guys who did the soundtrack) will be playing
a live set after each screening. 2) It's in the Jewel Box at
the Rendezvous which means you can drink!! 3) The co-creators
and some of the Derby enthusiasts from the film will be there
to wax poetic after the screening. 4) It's at the Rendezvous
which means you can drink. Did I already mention that?

Jewel Box Theater in the Rendezvous
2320 2nd Ave in Belltown, 7 and 9 p.m. screenings, 21+, $5

Cold Lava.

Bluegrass Bugs and Beer (Sat 1/11/03).

Friday afternoon retired C.D.O. (Chief Discipline Officer) Andrew was forwarding this very interesting invitation. Don and Jim were having a "Bluegrass Bugs and Beer Party":

This is the 14th "Bugs and Beer" party I've put together over the last 13 years. It's been about two years since I've held one in Seattle and I thought I should try something a little different...I've been working on organizing this extra material for some time and have brought the entire collection up to display quality so for the first time I will be able to show you EVERYTHING.

This amounts to a little over 5400 specimens, collected over the last 22 years. Of course I'll bring lots of live bugs to play with too! We usually have some live music and will continue this tradition.

We had to go. It was amazing. We learned a ton about insects. Did you know that scorpions glow green under black light? Don was demonstrating it with one of his big scorpion pets. There was also a Black Widow waiting for food in a different box and a bunch of stick bugs and leaf bugs to play with - as promised. Incredible! Although I had to leave when that sticky Bluegrass music started to creep into my system like a "gromphadorhina portentosa" abusing a "parthenocissus quinquefolia".

Party Volcano deeply regrets not being able to inform you about this event in time. We would like to make up for our mistake by forwarding Andrew's recommendation for a place on the web where you can buy Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches in bulk. Check it out: 300 Live Giant Hissers for $224.95. It's a start...
