Friday, 1/24.

Myra's War @ UW School of Music.

The Stranger writes:

During World War II, pianist Myra Hess was brave enough to stage concerts amidst the raining bombs of the London Blitz. In honor of Dame Hess, a tag team assortment of UW pianists duplicate Hess' first concert of works by J. S. Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, and Debussy. Also, pianist Julie Ives premieres an as yet untitled new work, which presumably addresses one (or all) of the wars going on today.

UW School of Music. Brechemin Auditorium is on the southeast end of
The first floor. 8-9pm. Free.

Sunday, 1/26.

"Low Heights" @ SAM.

The Iranian Cultural-Arts Society (ICAS) and the Iranian Film Society (IFS) present the latest film by Ebrahim Hatamikia: LOW HEIGHTS (ERTEFA_E PAST) with English subtitles.

This is probably the funniest synopsis that I have read in a long time:

SYNOPSIS: This is the story of a man who wants to move with his wife and his child. A must move! Just like our grandfathers, our ancestors. But good for them because they moved anywhere they wished, but now, everywhere, there is a wall. They need money, they need visa, but this poor man owns only one thing to himself: his own life...

If those English subtitles are written in the style it's a must move - I mean a must see. I know, I should be careful. There is a German saying that might apply here: "Die schaerfsten Kritiker der Elche waren frueher selber welche" (the harshest critics of elks used to be elks).

Seattle Art Museum (downtown Seattle). 100 University Street (1st & University), $8.
Show Times: 4, 6, & 8 PM

Tuesday, 1/28.

"Let Them Eat Cake" @ 1405 Boylston.

Art Reach presents "Let Them Eat Cake", a super-fab political art show of both well-known and not-so-well-known artists. The opening was slated for the night of El Presidente's State of the Union but they were unable to get the White House to give out this Top Secret info before setting the date. Should be a good party and you'll know people.

Artists include: Lauren Atkinson, Claire Cowie, Dana Elish, Stephen Knorr, Jessie Lyle, Dora Oliveira, Jaime Skolfied, Debra Baxter, Ed Craggs, Thomas Flood, Siri Kroesen, Rachel Maxi, Greg Onewien, Curtis Taylor, Rafael E. Caraballo, Kelly Davis, Kirby Ingraham, Tina Lapadula, Boyd Post, Thomas Moore, Margaret Reische, Alice Tippit.

The email I got doesn't mention cover charge but I would assume it.

Opening reception: Tuesday January 28th, 7-10pm.
1405 Boylston (just south of Pike St.)
