Nothing is going on this weekend. If you are interested in theater you might want to check out 14/48 at Conworks. The Stranger mentions it but I haven't been able to confirm that information. Conworks needs to work on their PR. Their web site is old and nobody knows about 14/48 even though it's a good concept.

This is Peter Mark's fourth one-man show at various cafes and restaurants around Seattle. He has been included in three recent group shows like the "little things count" show at CoCA in December, Arts Orbit's exhibit at Cirque de Broadway, and the current exhibit "World Celebration" at Fugio (www.fugio.com):
You're invited to the opening of a photography exhibit Friday January 10th from 4pm - 8pm at Cafe Zoe, 4112 University Way NE ("the ave") featuring new works by Peter Mark, a local photographer, including architectural images from New York City and images related to boats and water on Lake Union and Fisherman's Terminal. Elvis Invitationals 2003 @ EMP.
I have been to two "Night of the Living Elvis" events so far. I tend to agree with Jeff De Roche, who wrote in the Stranger last year:
"Like an amped-up, costumed karaoke or drag event, it's an excuse for needy attention whores with abandonment issues to grab the microphone and become someone who's actually interesting".

"Tangoheart" plays in Redmond.
Move into the new year by reaching back and remembering Piazzolla & other tango greats through the history, music & dance of Bertram Levy's "Tangoheart" show with the music of the Seattle City Sextet enhanced by TangoFusion dancers Patty Leverett & Kevin Rossio:
"Tangoheart" presents the story of the greatest twentieth century figure of tango, Astor Piazzolla, through music, dance, and narrative. This show displays the wide range of his creations, as well as the classic tangos that helped shape him. The classic tangos in the show are selected from each decade in Piazzolla's life and feature dances - created, dramatized & performed by Patty Leverett & Kevin Rossio.

In addition to "I Love Shiva Mondays" the Baltic Room is also hosting "Bollywood" once a month. The people behind those events are Ike Singh, Lawrence, and DJ Peter Madril. They also organized Jalwa at Chop Suey on NYE.

Snack Rating Upgrade: Member's Juried Exhibition @ PCNW (Jan 3)
Party Volcano had forgotten just how good PCNW's snacks are. In the last issue we gave them 4 out of 5 stars. We are now officially upgrading to 4.5 out of 5 stars on the snack scale after attending the artists' opening reception last Friday. My favorite was the whole baby potatoes that had a hint of pesto. Even our Brazilian fact checker, Gisele--who is used to magnificent spreads backstage after the runway shows--loved the potatoes.
Gisele shares with our readers another variation of pesto potatoes, in this case, they are mashed. Gisele says, "When I was young girl, my mama made these and they were my favorite! Sometimes when I am homesick for my family, say after a long photo shoot or after long day fact checking for Party Volcano, I have my personal chef make these up. Then I feel comforted."

Gisele's Mama's Pesto Mashed Potatoes
Pesto
1/2 bunch fresh basil
2 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
Mix all ingredients in a small food processor and blend until smooth.
Potatoes
1 and 1/2 pounds potatoes
3/4 cup 1% milk
salt, to taste
Peel and cut potatoes into quarters. Boil in a medium saucepot for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain, place in a large bowl and mash with potato masher. Add milk and salt; blend until creamy. Swirl in pesto.
