Events For 2/21/03 to 2/26/03.

Good news: no new Elk letters in my inbox. Bad news: I am a little bit late with this week's editon of Party Volcano. Unfortunately it's too late for Nicastro's "Rent Party" Fun'Raiser at 'The Bar @ Olive & Denny' (formerly known as 'The Flame'):

In 1999, Seattle renters helped elect Judy Nicastro to a seat on the Seattle City Council, and she's used this office to promote their issues and fight for their rights. This year, Judy's four-year 'lease' on her Council seat will run out, and she'll be running again to renew it. Some of us have decided to help her out by throwing a 'rent party,' as was done in the days of the Great Depression, to raise some cash for her to use in her re-election effort. Please join us for a night of music and magic by coming out to: "JUDY NICASTRO'S RENT PARTY"

The theme was a little bit difficult anyway: "Depression Era outfits (reflecting the Thirties and Forties) are strongly encouraged". Once I was told that time has been standing still for me fashion wise since the 80ies. To which I can respond now: It will pay off saving those 80ies shirts because in 10 years I will be able to wear them at one of those Nicastro theme parties that require "Depression Era outfits - reflecting the years at the turn of this century". I would be off by 20 years - but in ten years I will also care less what other people think of me...

"The Fall of Atlantis" - the sequel.

Last week we downgraded "Atlantis" as a Hippie Disneyland for $20. This time it costs only $10 bucks. But my party guts are telling me that it didn't fly last week and they are trying it again for half the price:

As Atlantis falls, we must begin to imagine a new beginning...

An Encore offering and final Seattle showing of the Atlantis ritual theater production at the same space as last weekends event. The show will include a solo performance by Mabo, the cube piece by Qi Hakka, and a chance to groove with the music of Osiris Indriya.

There must be a market for this kind of crap here in the Northwest. Notice that "all ages welcome" means that there will be no alcohol to help you getting over those stupid fire performancers.

Friday... February 21st, 2003 - "The Fall of Atlantis" $10
@ Capitol Hill Arts Center (12th & Pine) Doors @ 7:30 [All ages welcome!]

ECLECTOLOUNGE GOES TO MARS

Eclectolounge is going comercial: three bucks for good music accompanied by the sweet mumbling sound of somebody reading poetry while you are getting drunk with your friends:

This Friday (2/21) at 9pm, DJs Paul Edwards, Nordic Soul, Poet Arne Pihl
& Special Guests DJ Eddie, Poet Rob Z, Country Punk All Star Lee Rude
on Jazz Clarinet, Birthday Girl Tamra Myers, and Extra Special Others
will mince words with beats like a shake yer ass death match of vibrant
new aromas.

No punch will ever move you so profound and sweetly as this.
Beats stolen & found, original & stripped down Detroit style
with live word--effected and super-modulated
like a bad ass Plymouth
hangin on the inside.

The rear view is in front of you.
Turn the radio off.
It's different every time.

Hmm, "stripped down Detroit style". I can do that too:

Coffee and tea.
Two little flavors.
I bite my tongue.
Who towed my Honda?

The marsBar--609 eastlake ave east, $3, 9pm.

Saturday, 2/22.

HEARTBREAK HOTEL PARTY in Phoenix

You can still make it for this Space Virgin party in Phoenix:

Hello lovely people--most of you, so far away! Chris and I are having our first party down here and would love to have you here for it. We'll be taking all (or most) of the week of Feb 16-23 off for our friend's Ben & Eric (hi guys), and we figure, the more the merrier!

Alaska was having a sale that has Seattle-Phoenix for $189 round trip:

I can't believe, there is nothing else going on in this town on Saturday.

Wednesday, 2/26.

8minuteDating in Georgetown.

This is one of those organized "speed dating" events:

What you get at an 8minuteDating event:
1. A fast, fun and safe way to meet people.
2. A room full of eligible singles who want to meet someone like you.
3. An enjoyable evening of conversation.
4. 8 great dates in 1 fun night.
5. The opportunity to meet everyone at the event.
6. Complimentary appetizers and a chance to win prizes.
7. The 8minuteDating Guarantee.
8. Maybe…the love of your life.

Here is what I have heard about "speed dating": 8 minutes are too long!
According to a friend of a friend of mine, who was helping out one evening to keep the men/women ratio in balance "you just know" after 2 minutes. If that was true you should bring a good book to read in those awkward 6 remaining minutes. As an alternative you might want to consider using conversation killers like: "I think, I can see your brain through your nose..." (I can generate more of those if needed!)

Singles night at About the Music
Date: Wednesday, February 26,2003, Time: 7:00 PM
Group: Professional singles, 25-35
Price: $28.88 ($33.88 after February 21)

Guerrilla Masquerade Party (2/15/2003)

Sorry about not mentioning Guerrilla Masquerade Party on 2/15:

Inspired by Guerrilla Queer Bar, Santarchy, and my own deviant ideas, Guerrilla Masquerade Party aspires to be a semi-regular coup -- arriving unannounced, in costume, at bars, coffee-shops, grocery stores -- wherever seems like the most fun.

The first official Guerrilla Masquerade Party will be Saturday, February 15th. We'll be meeting up at Playland (925 East Pike on Capitol Hill) at 9:30pm, hang out for awhile to allow our numbers to build up (and maybe have a little drink), then head off to an unsuspecting location -- to be announced closer to the actual date.
