Events for 8/13 to 8/19/2004

After returning from my two weeks trip to Mexico I was hoping to offer a little bit more than these few events for this week. I would have loved to present you something like the annual dead babies bicycle club race and party, which took place while I was gone.
You'll find a lot of mild to harsh downgrades in this issue.

Seattle Music Fest @ Alki Beach.

The Stranger writes:

The coolest beach party in town is this weekend-long music celebration on Alki Beach, in West Seattle, showcasing local and national artists. The festivities start tonight, with bands like Post Stardom Depression and the Schoolyard Heroes, and continue all weekend with acts like Dolour, the Ruby Doe, Blue Sky Mile, Quasi Nada, and Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing.

Alki Beach, near 59th Ave NW and Alki Beach Way, West Seattle, 866-208-6293, free, all ages.

Diana Moves @ ConWorks.

From an email:

Totally Cool new rock musical, Diana Moves at Consolidated Works. If you're curious to see a truly new and unique rock musical than we highly recommend seeing Diana Moves, a new work featuring local Seattle rock musicians and actors. Visit their interactive website at www.dianamoves.com for further details and to hear mp3 files of music from the show.

I don't know. Sounds terrible:

17 year old Leslie Danko steps out of her troubled childhood and out on the highway to seek experience, to locate herself and her life in a confusing chaotic world –and is forever changed by her vivid journey. Set in the 1990’s West coast music scene, Diana Moves is a hard driving and ultimately hopeful look at addiction, survival, alienation, _expression and the redemptive power of love. Featuring a contemporary score, Diana Moves is rock musical that evokes the spirit of Tommy with modern day musical sensibilities.

Consolidated Works is located in the South Lake Union Neighborhood of
Seattle at 500 Boren Ave North, one building south of Ducky's Furniture

BurningHeart Burlesque Side Show @ Rendezvous

My downgrade thumb is itching. But for now I'll let it go:

The Lovely Ladies of BurningHearts Burlesque's Miss Aphrodisiac, Marie de Sade, and Evelyn Sin Claire were amazing last night at the Fenix for Exotic Underground party last night. We had the best show we have ever done there, and the band we played with was one of my new favorite bands"The Go Like Hells". This band is totally old school punk mixed with trash metal, kind like the plasmatics, sexy hard core thing. Do go see these guys when you get a chance.

Yep, one of those Burning Man events again. It will probably be fun - if you are able to ignore those eager men whose spermatophores hang from their siphons.

Channel your inner whore and join us for the ceremonial christening of the Temple. Music starts at 10pm and the whores will keep you entertained 'til dawn. Dance to the old school beats of DJ Sho Nuff and special guest djs, get some Reiki, massage, mehindi, spankings, maybe even be offered the true keys to the vault of heaven....

All of the rumors you've heard are true.

Dress accordingly.

Snacks, beverages (including our soon-to-be-famous Playabarrell Whorejuice) and all other "services" are free, however tips are appreciated. Help us build our Temple in the desert! Please forward this to all whore-friendly folks.

Artists for Animals Pt. II

No flies on this one, I like this event. Ms Cowbelly writes:

For those of you who missed the first NARN benefit show at CHAC, here's your chance to come and check out the art again at an open house/artist's reception at Sev Shoon Arts Center during Ballard's Artwalk this month on Saturday 8/14 from 6-9pm. (Sev Shoon/Ballard Works is west of downtown Ballard, across the street to the north from Taco Time.)

The show will feature a diverse assortment of animal inspired work by 40 Puget Sound Artists. The exhibition space spans over three floors in the building. There will be wine, finger food, and live music, and of course, the fabulous art, with proceeds going to benefit Northwest Animal Rights Network.

*The show will also be open from 1-5 pm every Sunday in August, for those who can't make the Artwalk.*

For more information on Northwest Animal Rights Network check out www.narn.org.

IndepenDance Day @ Baltic Room

It has been pretty quiet since Seattle's Bollywood bubble burst at Panjabi MC's embarrassing show on 4/30 this year. Maybe it's time to put some money back into the market? Wazhma said that she had a lot of fun the last time she went with her group of girlfriends. I remember her saying that it was pretty empty and nobody was harassing them.

Sunday 8/15

Allied Arts Summer Garden Party

This is a garden party at the home of Robin Matisse:

Allied Arts Summer Garden Party

Celebrate the romance of summer at the Ballard home of Robin Matisse and help us raise funds to enhance the cultural livability of Seattle. Hors d'oeuvres, wine and sparkling conversation provided.

Allied Arts is best known as the organization that worked to save the Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square. As an advocacy organization, Allied Arts works to set and lead the debate regarding important quality of urban life decisions. Currently, we are working to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct with Seattle's next great civic space.

They are asking for a $50 donation for three hours of chatting at a backyard. That must be a joke. Good cause or not - as a merciless consumer who has to go to work every day spreading his legs for corporate America I say: even 50 Pesos ($5) would be too much for this!

Sunday, August 15th
2PM-5PM
6721 6th Avenue NW
$50 suggested donation

Basskamp @ Lower Level

There is a good chance that this is total crap. But it might be interesting if you are into autistic art forms:

basskamp

An evening of 21st Century music highlighting Seattle's underground
community of electronic and experimental musicians, hosted by Obelus, a
Seattle-based live electronic duo. basskamp explores atmospheric and ambient
soundscapes with DJs, live acoustic, laptop composition and
free-improvisation. With an impressive lineup of local musicians, basskamp
extends from adventurous, sample-based freeform, live beats and sound
sculpting to acoustic abstract and free jazz. basskamp features members of
Fourth City, Tracer Visuals, Bass Kamp Records, and Bloc Records. Tonight
features ndCv and nordic soul.
