Events for 1/21 to 1/27/2005

I have seen better weeks. Even Seattle Spin (www.seattlespin.net) ended up recommending Guided Snowshoeing by the US Forest Service (http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/news/2004/nr_snowshoe_walks_120304.shtml) and signing up for Senior Community Classes at the Wallingford Center (http://www.wallingfordseniors.org/HMTL/Notices.htm#new_programs).

I don’t think it’s that bad. In fact Saturday looks pretty good to me. My recommendations for Saturday: TechGnosis, then Derrick May, then Catchpenny. On Friday I would go to the API Benefit party. Kozy Kino is something new that might be worth checking out on Thursday.

SPLIT BILL with locust and Foot in Mouth @ On the Boards

Hi Party Volcano.

You all should know about an event this weekend (Jan 20-22). Two hip, innovative Seattle-based companies who collaborate in music and dance are sharing an evening at On the Boards. Below is info about their work. Following Thursday’s opening-night performance there will be an after-party at the Mirabeau Room in lower Queen Anne - no cover charge. The Seattle Times printed a preview about this event saying, “…audiences could be in for one of those landmark evenings looked back on in later years when companies first establish themselves in the public eye.” In other words, this will be a night to remember. If you want to read more – here’s the link to the Times article… otherwise just show up. It’s going to rock. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/text/2002150010_locust16.html

LOCUST - convenience
Choreographer Amy O'Neal & composer Zeke Keeble present their largest work to date. A piece full of original dance, music, video & performances by some of the strongest stage personalities in Seattle - Gabriel Baron, Troy Miszklevitz & Ellie Sandstrom.

FOOT IN MOUTH - Last Seen
Choreographers Alice de Muizon & Amelia Reeber combine forces with composers Ivory Smith & Eryn Young to create an eerie concoction of dance theater, electronically manipulated vocal work & haunting fairytale landscapes.

Battle of Algiers @ Kozy Kino

To commemorate the dawning of a democratic renaissance in Iraq,
the folks down at Kozy Kino invite you to their inaugural cinema screening
of the Battle of Algiers, a timely and timeless cinematic masterpiece of
violent insurgency. Commissioned in 1965 by the Algerian government,
this film is an unbiased and haunting depiction of the Algerian struggle
for independence from French rule. Possibly the finest film about revolution
in film history (unless you're a disciple of Eisenstein).
Drink specials - N. African mint tea, pastisse
(subject to change due to availability).

see advert:
http://ugak.org/kino/kino-battle-of-algiers.jpg

The Kozy Kino is a new underground cinema that infuses diverse film programming
with thematic beverage service. Every second and fourth Thursday evening,
we throw down the cheap, homemade cushions, fire up the video beame! r and
concoct delicious refreshments to wash down the freshly popped corn.
Each featured film is a forgotten wonder of cinema… coupled with shorts
and inspirational drink specials. It’s a cheap night of uninstitutionalized
quality entertainment and a fine example of underground economy.

The Kozy Kino is located at 1809 Minor Ave. (between Stewart and Howell) right
around the corner from the Rebar. It is also somebody’s loft space but don’t
let that put you off. Although it’s an intimate experience (read: seating is
limited), it’s the sort of thing that this town needs more of (e.g. the speakeasy,
the peoples’ kitchen, the Sunday sermon, the peoples' underground surgical
theater, etc.).
Help breathe some life into this 'theme park of a city' now and start
your own!

questions? contact: inphaseprod@yahoo.com
and oh yeah, Kino means cinema in German... so please d! on't write me
asking!

Thursday Jan. 27th, 9pm
1809 Minor Ave.
Entrance – $1 - one U.S. dollar.
