Tuesday 2/11:
(1) Wiener: Don’t miss Gary Smoots’ Wiener show this evening. I ran into him yesterday and he said that he would give a small introduction into Wieners at around 6:30pm. The Wiener headcount was at 260 yesterday evening. His goal is having 300 iced Wieners placed one by one on a slowly moving conveyor belt. The wieners will parade along the conveyor until each meets its inevitable end, becoming part of a grand melting heap in the center of the gallery floor.
From what I have heard it will be more like a fun event with beer and BBQ (wieners?).
(2) FuNC’s Fat Tuesday: The Fremont Unconventional Center (FuNC) is having a Fat Tuesday party featuring Optimus Rhyme, Combustion Collective, Sugaah B & Butoh Ensemble, and the Molotov Fire Dance. The invite says: “Adventurous behavior encouraged.” I have never been lucky with FuNC events. The last party on 2/1 was lame from what I have heard. Starts at 9pm. 21+. $5/$3 w/ canned food (wieners?) and costume. 160 N Canal St (Across from the Red Hook Brewery). www.seattlefunc.org
Thursday 2/14 (V-Day!):
(3) Li’l Red Shack Gallery Opening: Not too many know about this interesting indie-gallery on 1st between Pioneer Square and the stadium. The gallery is divided in two halves: Claudia Hollander-Lucas will show her work on the left, and Colleen Hayward and Mark Zirpel are occupying the right half. I don’t know them but I would expect something non-mainstream (wieners?). Starts probably at 7pm. 1028 1st Ave. S. http://www.artstar.org/lrshack/future_shows.html
(4) Dumbclothing’s Lingerie Fashion Show: Those of you who went to Paula Fletcher’s fashion show at Barca in summer last year probably don’t need to be convinced that this will be a great event. It was packed and it was fun watching neighbors from Capitol Hill walking down the catwalk wearing Dumbclothing outfits.
Starts at Barca (11th Ave beween Pike and Pine) at 9pm. Clothing will be available for sale afterwards. www.dumbclothing.com
That’s it for now,
