Events 2/15-2/17/2002

Friday 2/15:

(1) Aftermath: Virgins
Diana Adams' new gallery space is having an opening called "Virgins". This exhibit is showing the previously unseen work of people who may feel shy or unworthy of the overwhelming attention that a public display of their artwork will generate. I guess that means that you have to be quiet if you think the art sucks. - Bummer.
928 12th Ave, next to Kokeb. 6-10pm. www.aftermathgallery.com

(2) Roq la Rue: Yumiko Kayukawa.
From the invite: "Roq la Rue favorite Japanese pop princess skates back into town with a new show of her illustrated confections for a special mid-month show." To be honest I am more excited about Shag at R' la R' on 3/15. Best time to arrive at R' la R' is between 8pm and 9pm. Roq la Rue: 2224 2nd Avenue, next to Lava Lounge, 7-11pm. http://www.roqlarue.com/frame/frm-upcoming.html

Saturday 2/16:

(3) Slide Presentation: Sebastico Salgado

Sebastico Salgado will make a special appearance at Town Hall to present a 45-minute slide show from his latest work, Migrations. He and his wife/collaborator, Lilia Wanick Salgado, will then discuss their current work, Instituto Terra, a project to save the Atlantic Forest in Brazil.
This will be fantastic. He is an amazing photographer. The tickets cost $12 ($15 at the door) but it will be worth it. I got my tickets at Photographic Center Northwest (900 12th Ave); they are opened until 11pm.
Location: Town Hall 1119 8th Ave; starts at 4pm. About his work: http://www.pdnonline.com/legends/legends10/

(4) Special Event: Pig War Redux
Never heard of pig bonfires? Neither have I. "The pink papier-mâché, stalwart champion of Washi! ngton State History, will be commended for acts of merit by public burning." I hope it will not rain. The schedule of events is as follows:
5:00 -- The Pig arrives at Golden Gardens Park on a Golden Cart inside the belly of a bus.
5:00-6:00 -- The Pig has its run of tthe place. Fire pit is prepared (out of site from the Pig).
6:00 -- The Pig bonfire, followed by general bonfire type activities (standing around).
For more information about pig war see http://www.pigwar.com .
Execution will take place at Golden Gardens Park, 6pm.
