Another hectic edition. I am sure I missed something. Keep your eyes open. It seems like private parties are picking up again. My theory: It’s either caused by post Burning Man decompression or it’s simply a pre-Halloween eruption.

Talk Like A Pirate Day.

This national holiday was established in 1995 and has been celebrated around the US since. Party Volcano asked Captain Scott to comment on this important event:

Fremont Oktoberfest

PV volunteer Heather says: YAY for Beer!

Why is it called Oktoberfest when it's in September? In Munich, where the whole sot ten tradition of October festing started way back in 1810, the weather is much nicer in September than in October. Really. It is that simple. Don't you just love Bavarian practically? Freemont's 7th annual Oktober fest is no slave to titles either. If you've ever been to a block party, out door market or kegger your already more or less familiar with Freemont's annual celebration of micro brews. What you might not know is that Oktoberfest is a hidden gem of annual local music event. Saturday will be the day not to miss, with local stand outs Ms. Led (2:30 to 3:30 pm) the Lashes (4:00 to 5:00 pm) and Sandford Arms (7:00 to 8:00 pm)
All this clearly begs question: why isn't the best holiday in October, Halloween, not in also in September when running around outdoors is actually pleasant.

INSTALLATION at SAW

This came in from Dan last minute:

Hey guys,
I need that 5 star rating for INSTALLATION. This cool girl from LA / URB rep, has a sweet budget. Free beer/ wine/ alcohol. Promoting Scion cars, hundreds of cool backpaks with t-shirt and magazine. I've seen 'em! Sweet!
The swanky art kicks ass too. Me and Sam Trout are puttin the show up. Even painted the floor.

Thanks PV!

SAW won’t get five stars for the Snack Rating – that’s for sure. We are corrupt snackoholics and crackers and chips just can’t compete with the fantastic food that is consistently served at places like Photographic Center Northwest. (PCNW).

I don’t know about the art though. Let’s hear another opinion. Do you remember C.Taylor? She is that very talented photographer, who used to work for the Stranger, before she moved to Chicago last year. She is still alive and is actually pointing out this event:

Just got this tip from URB Magazine and thought some of you may like
to take advantage of this. See is attached for an announcment on the
upcoming details for an open bar/DJ event you should check out!

Wish I could join you!

C.Taylor

Here are the details:

Three Imaginary Girls presents:

The Walkmen/KaitO/Sushirobo CD release @ Graceland.

The TIGs promised us to send in more information but we haven’t heard back from them. Check out their site and the flyer fore more information about this event.
I’ll use the space here to squeeze in a little Cold Lava report about their Rockstar Buttrock Karaoke Party on 9/30. I had so much fun, it was a fantastic event. The show was great and my friends and I participated in their haiku contest by submitting some controversial haikus about butt plugs, chicken soup, and sweaty noses. The TIG site has a nice write up and you can read our silly haikus too.

Here is my rating: this CD release party will probably not comparable with the Rockstar Buttrock Karaoke Party. But I would expect a nice show. You should go.

Giant Robot magazine party on First Ave.

Sam Trout is pointing out this party. It sounds a little bit vague but it should be mentioned here:

There's also a Giant Robot magazine party happening down on First Ave.
Featuring I Heart Rummage artist Ioesafatu Sua among a few other artists.
I don't have a flyer on hand but I think the address is something like:
562 1st Ave.
If someone knows the correct address let me know and I'll pass it along.

This is going to be a pretty fun arty-party night so I hope to see you all there.

Rugby Bake Sale, Rummage Sale and Car Wash @ R Place

Hot rugby playing, cookie making, car washing, rummage sale hosting gay
guys on a Saturday morning and afternoon. What more could you ask for?

The Quake, which is a local gay rugby team is hosting this as a
fundraiser. Their fearless leader, cutie Ray Gomez, pleads: "It would be cool if you
guys could showup to make me look good in front of the team."

Party Volcano will be there.

In front of R Place, 619 E. Pine, 10am to 5pm.

Consolidated Works Garage Sale Weekend

Lary writes:

Bernd! Friends of Bernd!

Hey there-- hope everyone is well. Writing to give you a heads-up about an event I hope you can add to this week's and next week's editions.
The event itself -- the Consolidated Works Garage Sale Weekend (hosted by the ConWorks Board of Directors, as opposed to the staff) is on Friday and Saturday Sept. 19-20.

No art auction this year. The Board thought asking artists to donate their work in this economy would be just plain wrong. This year, it's cool items and eclectica.

We are taking the mulit-disciplinary concept of our series programming and applying it to our annual fundraiser: the sale on Friday night will be a gala event from 7-11, with ConBar open, garage bands 3 inch Max and Jodie Watts playing, thematically-appropriate movies in the cinema (Repo Man, Death Race 2000), premium items in the Lambourghini Lounge, a silent auction featuring premium car services or themed items (subscription ! to Garage Theater, tix to Garage Bowl, CARtier watch, et al). Admission will be $10, which includes a free Garage Cocktail drink ticket. (It's a fundraiser, remember). Oh yeah, in between garage band sets will be guest-spinning by reknowned songwriter/producer Kurt Bloch, voted MVP in Seattle Weekly's latest music poll.

Saturday is the Gala Garage Day, which will go from 10-6, and feature, in addition to the sale, Matt Richter's long-desired Car Wash event. (Well, he wanted nudity; we'll end up with scantily-clad, as this is September). Sudsy and sexy guest washers from Orcas Swim Team, maybe the burlesque community...? Special guest washers still pending. Guest DJs spinning all day: DJ Lady KerrinB, DJ Sky, and DJ Eon, and the ConBar is OPEN.

ConWorks is at 500 N. Boren (@ Republican) in the S. Lake Union Area.

Details at www.conworks.org, or call 206/381-3218.

Sunday, 9/21

Bug Blast @ The Burke Museum

Each year the Burke Museum hosts a Bug Blast day. It's oriented towards families, but it's well worth checking out for anyone.

One of the participants will be Don Ehlen and his "Insect Safari". PV readers may recall that we have recommended a couple of his past events. He has something like 2000 pinned bugs and dozens of live ones, including walking stick bugs, giant hissing cockroaches and gorgeous weird leaf bugs. Utterly mesmerizing. Who knew bugs could be so beautiful and fascinating?

The Burke Museum, located at the corner of NE 45th St and 17th Ave NE on the UW campus. 10 am - 5 pm. Admission is $6.50 general, $5 senior, $3 student/youth, FREE to Burke members, children 5 and under, UW faculty, students, and staff.

Letters to our Readers

Dear hosts of the Penis Party,

So I was told to not mention your Penis Party on Saturday. I honestly don't get it: It's at a public place, you have to pay five bucks to get in, and on top of all that it's a CD release party for some local bands nobody has heard of. That’s the kind of event you want to have your event posted at Party Volcano!

Let me tell you what happened last Saturday at the 80ies Prom Party. We wrote about it last week and since it was a private party I asked our readers to invite themselves if they wanted to get the address. The hosts of that party had invited about 400 guests and Party Volcano extended that invitation to its 1200 readers. This invitation went out to 1600 people - and how many people did show up? Twenty. A similar thing happened at the Jungle party three months ago.

In conclusion: Party Volcano's influence on Seattle's party scene is overrated. Most of our readers probably only want to know what's going on and what they might be missing out on. And most of our readers probably don't see a point in going to a private party they don't know anybody.

But nonetheless we wish you the best success for your CD release party – Let’s hope you’ll be able to fill the top floor of that hotel!

Best,

PV

Can't Fight This Feeling - 80s PROM Party on 9/13/03

As mentioned before: out if 1600 invited people only 20 showed up. It was actually not that bad as it sounds. I talked to a bunch of people. After talking to a snobby girl from Northgate I introduced myself to the birthday girl‘s sister. She told me that she has lost about 100 pounds within the last year after getting one of those surgeries where they tuck up your stomach in San Diego. She said that the first three month were hard because her brain wanted to eat like three big macs but she was physically not able to eat them. It was a small party but I left it with a new respect for life in general and big macs.
